We have reached the edge of the Mercury Pool. In front of us is a pool the size of two basketball courts, with no path in sight, let alone any boats or similar vessels. The silvery liquid is crystal clear, resembling silver beads, and seems to shatter at the slightest touch. I kept surveying the surroundings. There really was no path around the Mercury Pool. Up close, I could see that beneath the Crystal Coffin was a circular platform that was almost level with the surface. Although the colors were similar, it was still distinguishable upon closer inspection. Since there were no bridges or boats to cross over, could we swing across from above?
Thinking this, I looked up, hoping there might be some iron chains or something similar! But while ideals are beautiful, reality remains harsh; there was nothing above us either.
"Lime, what are you doing?!" Seeing Lime lift his foot as if preparing to step into the Mercury, I grabbed his arm in fright. Stepping in would not be a trivial matter! It would directly seep into his skin; even several lives wouldn't be enough to pay for that!
Lime looked at me, the corners of his perfect mouth slightly curling up, and said, "It's nothing, just look at that." He raised his hand and pointed to the Glowing Pearl floating above the Crystal Coffin.
I looked up and then back at Lime, confused, and asked, "What does this have to do with you going down?"
Lime didn't answer. After pulling my hand away, he stepped onto it again. Just as I was about to grab him, I unexpectedly missed. In a moment of panic, I witnessed an astonishing scene: Lime's feet did not touch the Mercury; he was running swiftly as if on solid ground. Despite being so close, he didn't touch the Mercury at all!
Oh my! What a master! Could this be the legendary lightness skill of walking on water? No, here it should be called the lightness skill of walking on mercury!
"Stop daydreaming; let's go," Xianxian nudged me, looking eager to try. Before I could respond, Xianxian mimicked Lime and dashed toward the Mercury Pool. Strangely enough, Xianxian also ran across the Mercury without any sign of falling.
I couldn't help but be even more amazed! Taking a few steps back, I steeled myself and rushed forward. The moment my foot touched the surface, I felt a strong gravitational pull as if stepping onto cotton—light and soft. No wonder Lime ran so fast; if he slowed down, he might lose balance and fall!
Fortunately, I had no intention of stopping from the start and ran very quickly. So even though the surface was soft, I didn't fall and soon reached the platform beneath the Crystal Coffin. Just as I sighed in relief, I heard a gasp.
Looking up, I saw that at some point, Lime and Xianxian had opened the Crystal Coffin. A quick glance revealed a corpse lying inside; since they were facing away from me, I couldn't see their expressions. Seeing them both frozen in place, I didn't linger either and quickly stepped beside Xianxian to eagerly look inside the coffin.
At first glance, I indeed saw a corpse! The body was severely decomposed and unrecognizable. If one wasn't mentally prepared, they would surely be startled upon seeing it for the first time—I was one of those people. The face was terrifying; aside from the black Eyeballs, the other features were vaguely discernible but looked ghastly and chilling!
If it weren't for this corpse, there would be something eye-catching: beside it lay exquisite burial items one after another. Although I knew little about antiques, just by looking at them, I could tell they were priceless treasures. Just taking one out could make someone a millionaire! Then my equipment wouldn't have to be so shabby!
Thinking this, I reached out to grab one nearby—a finely crafted Black Blade. Despite being weathered by a thousand years, the blade remained Jet Black and gleaming; it looked incredibly sharp with a cold glint—what a fine sword! Truly an excellent sword!
"Not bad at all! Following Master Qing means it's hard not to get rich!" Listening to this, I saw Xianxian playing with a delicate and translucent jade pendant in her hand, her face beaming with joy.
Lime did not take any of the burial items, but instead stared blankly for a while, a deep confusion flashing in his eyes. Then he began to take out various jewels and antiques from the burial items one by one and placed them on the ground. Was he planning to loot Treasure? Xianxian and I immediately joined him, carefully handling the items inside, afraid of breaking anything with a careless move!
After going around once, I was already exhausted, my back aching and my legs nearly trembling.
"Lift the body down." While I was wiping my sweat, Lime said to us calmly.
What? Lift the body down?? Taking the jewels was already enough; he didn't even want to let the corpse go? This... this is too unreasonable!
"I'll help you." Xianxian's eyes lit up, and without saying another word, she ran to the end of the coffin. Together with Lime, one lifted the head while the other lifted the feet, and they forcibly moved the corpse onto the ground. I felt a chill in the air around me, and looking at the grotesque corpse on the ground made me feel even more horrified! What if it suddenly got up and strangled us?
"Indeed!" This was Xianxian's surprised yet joyful voice.
I immediately turned my gaze back to the coffin. Lime would never do this without a reason! I saw Lime knock on the spot where the corpse lay; the ethereal sound was beautiful yet hollow. I gripped the edge of the coffin tightly because after a few knocks from Lime, I saw a partition slowly rising!
There was another layer beneath the corpse!
I felt my Heart beating even more strongly than before. I never imagined that there would be something hidden beneath the corpse. What could it be? The top layer was enough to drive a Tomb Raider crazy; would this next layer be even more insane? Or perhaps it was a paradise above and a hell below—joy followed by despair?
I kept speculating in my mind until the partition completely fell to the ground. Suddenly, Lime's hand shook and paused...
