Usually, Xianxian and I are definitely the leaders, always at the forefront, but this time, both of us fell behind. I don't know what he said to the others, but it didn't raise any suspicions among them.
"Tsk tsk, how scared are you to keep looking back like that, Fengfeng?" Xianxian said with a sideways glance and a light laugh.
Although I knew he was intentionally reminding me, I couldn't shake off my unease. So, I let Dabao walk ahead of me. Fortunately, he wasn't slow, and we didn't fall behind. As we moved forward, the temperature around us increased a few degrees. After a while, we returned to the previous fork in the road. By then, the chilling atmosphere had vanished, which further convinced everyone that the correct path was the straight one.
"Dabao?" I called out when I noticed that everyone else had gone in, but Dabao was still standing at the entrance without moving. I walked over to him and was startled to see his face even paler; his pupils were dilating as he stared down the path ahead, and the temperature around us dropped rapidly!
"Feng Zi, why aren't you coming in?" Wu Xiaoshou had already come back from inside. He shivered as he spoke and crossed his arms, frowning. "Why do I feel like it's getting colder..."
"Well..." Only Xianxian and I remained at the entrance. Seeing Dabao like this made me think he was extremely reluctant to go in. Was there danger ahead? I frowned as everyone inside turned to look at me curiously. I had no choice but to voice my concerns: "I just feel something is off. How about this? Let's split into two groups. Pei Zi, Song A, you take this path while Xianxian and I will take another one. Choosing the right path is better than risking everything."
As soon as I finished speaking, Song A walked out from inside and turned back to say, "Pei Zi, you all go ahead; I'll stay behind to protect Feng Zi."
"Brother, do you not trust This Lord's abilities? Fengfeng is my brother; I'll protect him myself," Xianxian stepped between me and Song A, facing him.
What a good brother! Hearing that made me feel touched. I lightly coughed into my hand and moved beside Xianxian, smiling at Song A. "Yes, Song A, you must have your own matters to attend to this time too. I don't want to hold you back. Although I don't really want to say this, you know I'm not good at anything."
"Are you still blaming me...?" Song A lowered his head with a somewhat dejected expression. I knew he misunderstood; although I had blamed him before, he hadn't actually harmed me. After so many years of friendship, I had long since let it go. Everyone has their reasons for their actions; however, trust isn't something that can be easily rebuilt.
"Song A, you know our Fengfeng is innocent. Even though you've deceived him before, I'm sure he hasn't taken it to heart; otherwise, he wouldn't have interacted with you from the start. It's just that I don't like having others follow us around. Although you've helped us before and I'm grateful for that, this is a matter of principle; I hope you understand." Xianxian said politely yet seriously, making it hard for me to refute him. Sure enough, after hesitating for a moment, Song A reluctantly replied, "Just be careful; make sure we meet again safely."
"Yes, yes; you all be careful too." Once I saw that Pei Zi and the others along with Song A had left, I sighed and said to Xianxian, "Thank you."
Xianxian was taken aback, suddenly punched me lightly and said unhappily, "What are you being polite for? You're really being distant!"
Seeing that he was genuinely upset, I couldn't help but chuckle and punched him back lightly, saying, "Alright, just a gesture. You really have no shame in accepting it."
"Tsk tsk, Fengfeng, why do I feel like your mouth is getting sharper and more sarcastic? You're not as innocent as you used to be!" Xianxian squinted his narrow phoenix eyes and looked at me recklessly.
"Come on, you're not exactly a good person yourself," I rolled my eyes at him and then turned to Dabao, asking, "Should we go right or left?"
"Left, left!"
"Yeah, I always felt a creepy vibe when we went in on the right side before!"
"Why don't we just go straight? I think going straight is the right choice!?"
"Let's try going left first. If it doesn't work out, we can always go straight afterward."
Perhaps they thought I was still asking Xianxian, so Dabao hadn't answered yet, and the others began to chatter among themselves. Xianxian didn't speak; he was looking in the direction I was looking, knowing I was asking Dabao.
Dabao's eyeballs moved slightly, then he looked at me. After a long pause, he finally opened his pale lips and murmured, "I don't know."
"Then let's go right!" Since Dabao had been on that path from the beginning, even though we didn't know where it led or what traps we might encounter, there wasn't much else I could do for now. As long as it didn't put Dabao under too much stress, that would be the right path!
Dabao bit his lip and eventually nodded slightly. Seeing this, I gave Xianxian a knowing glance to indicate that he agreed.
"Right? No way! Brother Feng, are we really going back after just coming out?" Wang Yi said unhappily.
"Are we really going down this path? I have a bad feeling about it!"

"Stop!" Xianxian raised a hand, halting the others from continuing. Once the surroundings quieted down, Xianxian coldly said, "What? Do you have any objections?"
"No, no, Lord Xianxian, wherever you say to go, we will go!" As soon as Xianxian showed some determination, Wang Yi and the others quickly changed their expressions and forced smiles. I couldn't help but shake my head and smile; indeed, no matter the situation, "violence" was always the best way to solve problems!
"Since there are no objections, let's go." After saying that, Xianxian mischievously winked at me, looking just like a playful puppy trying to please. Of course, I didn't dare to say that directly; otherwise, with his temperament, he would definitely give me a hard time. So I could only stifle my laughter and tugged at Dabao's sleeve to move forward. Oddly enough, I realized that I had grabbed him again after taking a few steps! Could it be that I needed to pull him with my consciousness to actually grab his physical form?
Xianxian and I led the way in front. Although the path was wide enough for four or five people to walk side by side, this time Dabao didn't walk alongside me but floated ahead as if guiding us. I trusted him completely and allowed him to turn left and right as he pleased.
During this time, everyone tacitly remained silent. The temperature inside was still low; despite wearing two thick layers of clothing, I was shivering a bit. However, everyone else seemed to be in a similar state. It wasn't until we reached the next fork in the road that Xianxian subtly tugged at my sleeve and whispered, "Where is he taking us?"
Looking at Dabao who didn't turn back at all, I couldn't help but shake my head. If Dabao was wandering aimlessly, every time we reached a fork in the road, he would pause slightly before choosing a direction. It seemed purposeful enough, but since he was acting this way, I didn't want to ask too many questions and could only follow along.
"Xianxian, are we lost? This winding path is like a maze!"
"That's right; it is a maze." Xianxian turned back and lightly laughed at them without any sense of crisis, which led to more chatter among the group behind us.
"Not good! Run!" Xianxian suddenly shouted and pulled me forward as we sprinted ahead. At the same time, several mechanisms activated around us with a series of clicking sounds, followed by numerous hidden crossbows shooting down from the ceiling with a whoosh! Even though we were running fast, screams echoed from behind us...
