Despite my strong protests, I was still destined to be at the bottom. In the narrow tunnel, all I could hear were heavy footsteps, rough breathing, and that faint "giggling" sound that seemed to be right next to my ear...
While shining my flashlight, I occasionally glanced back, but it remained empty behind me, as if nothing was chasing us. Even so, I couldn't relax; a breathless tension filled my chest, making me feel uncomfortable until I bumped heavily into the person in front of me.
"Why did we stop?"
"It seems there's no way forward..."
This was actually a dead end!? After stopping, I realized I was drenched in sweat without even noticing! In the cold space, the sweat soaked my clothes, clinging tightly to my body, making it even harder for me to stay calm.
Nothing is more terrifying than the fear of the unknown!
Since I was at the back, I had to be on high alert for my own safety. Following the tunnel we had come through, I just hoped to leave this cursed place as soon as possible!
"Should we turn back? Maybe that way is the entrance?" Evil Bird's voice sounded a bit urgent; he seemed nervous too.
"There's no time," Kong Guayan's calm voice replied.
"Actually, it doesn't matter which way we choose," Divine Hand said in a steady tone, showing no signs of tension. At this critical moment, his words provided a sense of reassurance.
Giggling...
A low, hoarse sound suddenly came from behind. I jumped and immediately shone my flashlight around. Even though I was mentally prepared, when I saw the dark figure crouching on the ceiling of the cave, I couldn't help but scream.
That figure was clearly the Ghost Child we had seen before! Its pale face was covered in wounds and expressionless, while its dark eyes glowed with a faint red light as they stared unblinkingly at me. That sudden gaze truly frightened me greatly.
At this moment, even the slightest movement could set everyone on edge. Not to mention my sudden shout, which immediately caused a commotion behind me. I heard Evil Bird cursing loudly a few times before he came up to me, looking fierce, and shouted, "What the hell are you shouting for!"
"Ghost... ghost...!" I shone the flashlight upwards, but there was nothing there! The little ghost had vanished!
"You damn fool, where's the ghost!" Evil Bird angrily kicked me and prepared to head back. His kick was no joke; it hurt my bones, as if he thought I was just messing with them again. Regardless of his grim expression, I quickly grabbed his arm and assured him, "I really saw it! If I'm lying, I'll take your last name!"
"Who wants to share a last name with you!" Although he said that, Evil Bird stopped in his tracks and didn't turn back.
Seeing that Evil Bird really wasn't planning to leave, I sighed in relief and changed the subject to bolster my courage. "Hey, Evil Bird, we've known each other for a few days now, but I still don't know your name?" It was meant to be a casual question, but unexpectedly, Evil Bird suddenly became furious. He glared at me several times before harshly saying, "What do you care what my name is? Didn't you see a ghost? Where is it? Hurry up and find it! Otherwise..."
Looking at his threatening expression, I quickly replied, "Okay, I'll look! What's with the aggression? Is your name something shameful?" With that, I started scanning around with the flashlight.
The only response I got was a huff from Evil Bird's nostrils.
After searching for a while without finding any trace of the little ghost, just when I was puzzled, someone behind me shouted "Above!" I looked up and saw that the little ghost had somehow climbed back up to the top of the hole! Silent as ever...
"Black Donkey Hoof, bring it here!" Evil Bird's expression changed as he hurriedly asked.
"Here it is." Someone quickly handed over Black Donkey Hoof.
"Hey, does this thing really work?" I stared at the little ghost, breaking out in a cold sweat as I asked skeptically. If it silently appeared behind me and clawed at me, I'd probably be done before I even realized what happened...
"You'll find out once you try!" With that, Evil Bird threw the item in his hand. His movement was so quick that even the little Ghost Town didn't react in time before being accurately hit. Suddenly, sharp cries of a child echoed in my ears; the "giggling" grew closer and more frantic...
The atmosphere instantly became tense; even the air began to emit a foul Blood Stench. I knew what that smell was; perhaps everyone here knew what it was!
"Blood Corpse is coming!"
Although the light was not sufficient, the bloody Blood Corpse was still glaringly impossible to ignore even in this dark corridor! This was the first time I felt this terrifying aura up close. The Blood Corpse was a skinned, bloodied corpse!
The strong smell of sulfur and Blood Stench filled my nostrils. The remaining ten or so people did not panic, but I could sense a tremendous pressure enveloping the surroundings. It seemed that these people were not as fearless as they appeared!
"Hold this position, buy them more time!" Evil Bird took the lead, picking up a gun and began firing at the approaching Blood Corpse. In an instant, gunfire echoed through the tunnel, accompanied by the cries of children and the gurgling sounds from the Blood Corpse's throat.
If I had to say who was the strongest here, aside from the somewhat unreliable Evil Bird, it would be Divine Hand and that Kong Guayan. But right now, I couldn't count on them coming over; what Evil Bird meant by buying time was probably because they were digging the Tomb Hole ahead.
Time passed second by second. Fortunately, Evil Bird still had some humanity left in him and handed me a small pistol amidst the chaos. But unfortunately, after firing a few shots, it ran out of bullets. I didn't have time to load the few bullets in my pocket. Cursing under my breath, I was sweating profusely with anxiety!
This was bad; I couldn't hold on any longer!
Although there was a dead person in front of me serving as a shield, those behind were all injured to varying degrees. Evil Bird had also been scratched several times and was covered in blood. While I watched the situation ahead, I frantically dragged the injured person backward.
"It's clear; retreat!" Just when I thought we were doomed, a concise and powerful voice suddenly rang out like heavenly music. Instantly filled with strength, I began to run back. But just as I took a step, something tripped me, and I fell heavily to the ground.
As I prepared to get up, people rushed past me from behind. At that moment, no one cared about anything else! I felt something heavy step on my back; although it was just a few steps, it felt like my bones were about to shatter.
"Help me!" Evil Bird was the last one to step on my back while escaping. Watching his figure gradually disappear in front of me made me feel an overwhelming terror. Clearly not severely injured, being stepped on shouldn't cause internal injuries, yet I couldn't get up! At that moment, I felt completely powerless; after trying several times, I still couldn't rise!!
