Master Qing had already started fighting the Peeling Monster without me realizing when it happened. I quickly ran towards my dad with a torch in hand, as we had more torches, causing those blood-red hairs to retreat reluctantly. At that moment, I saw a face covered in scars, looking increasingly aged, and my heart warmed. Pei Zi and the others had quickly brought a first aid kit to help bandage my dad's wounds.
"I finally found you!" I said to my dad with a smile, suppressing the bitterness in my heart.
"Zier, are you okay?" My dad sighed and took my hand, saying, "You really shouldn't have come here. It's too dangerous."
"I'm fine," I replied with a smile. Just then, Song A rushed over and asked anxiously, "Feng the Old Master, where are Songzi and the others?"
My dad shook his head with a sigh and said, "We got separated long ago. They won't be here."
Seeing them talking, I stood up and looked at Master Qing still battling the Peeling Monster. I watched as Master Qing swiftly slashed at the monster, which let out a terrible scream before lunging at him again. Master Qing remained calm, grabbing the monster's arm and throwing it hard against the wall on our right. To our surprise, the monster was incredibly resilient and got back up to charge at him once more.
Just as Master Qing swung his knife, another Flayed Blood Corpse suddenly fell from above. Although Master Qing dodged quickly and avoided being hit, he was still scratched by the previous Peeling Monster, causing blood to seep from his clothes.
Seeing a Peeling Monster running towards us, Pei Zi and the others helped my dad escape while Song A immediately pulled me back to run away. I turned to look back and said to Song A, "Let go of me! Why aren't you going to help? He's my savior!"
"Master Qing can handle it himself; we shouldn't go up and make things worse," Songzi insisted, still holding onto me as we ran. I suddenly felt that Song A was very unfamiliar; what did he mean by handling it himself? He could have stayed out of it but chose to fight two Peeling Monsters alone for our sake. We all knew how terrifying those monsters were; how could people act like this?
I shook off Song A's hand and stopped. Seeing this, Pei Zi and the others also halted and asked, "What's wrong?"
"I need to go back and save him," I said firmly.
In the Pei Zi team, Da Meng seemed to have heard the biggest joke and laughed incredulously, saying, "You say you want to go back and save him? You don't even know who he is? If he can't handle it, wouldn't we just be looking for death by going there!"
"Zier," my dad also tried to persuade me, saying, "I just saw you, don't take risks!"
I glanced at them and said, "I'll go alone. You can wait for me here or head to the main tomb chamber first. I'll come find you later." With that, I ran back.
After running for a while, I felt a chill creeping up my spine. That man was not my dad; although his expression and tone were very similar, his aura and presence were something no one could imitate. He could deceive everyone else but not me because I am my dad's biological son!
I just couldn't understand why someone would impersonate my dad. Was it to trick me? Or to deceive others? If it was to fool me, then what was the purpose? I believed I would soon find out; as long as I didn't expose him, he would surely come to test me.
When I arrived there, Master Qing was already gone. The only thing on the ground was a corpse of a Peeling Monster, its head already severed. There was another one somewhere else with Master Qing, and I didn't know where I found the courage to search every corner. Just when I was about to give up, I saw a blurry figure sitting in a corner.
"Brother Qing, is that you?" I asked cautiously. Although the person's appearance was vague, I was still afraid that it might be a Peeling Monster or someone with blood-red hair...
"Yes," a faint voice came from within. I almost immediately confirmed that it was Master Qing, so I boldly turned on my flashlight. To be honest, I had hesitated before because turning it on would mean revealing my location to any nearby Peeling Monsters or other chaotic creatures. I wasn't that foolish!
At that moment, the flashlight beam fell on Master Qing. He was quietly sitting in the corner resting. Not far away, another Peeling Monster had also been decapitated by him. One of his sleeves was completely soaked in blood; I knew this was from the earlier encounter with the Peeling Monster. Seeing him alone in the corner made me feel a sense of sadness. Some people only rely on the strong but fail to lend a hand in times of danger. I hated being that kind of person, which is why I chose to come back for him.
As I approached him, I noticed there was another large wound on his arm that he had only partially treated. Since I had no bandages on me, I tore off a piece of fabric from my left sleeve and said to him, "Let me re-bandage your wound."
"Why?" He continued to look at me calmly, with no hint of emotion in his eyes—like a pool of stagnant water. I knew he must have some doubts about my intentions; after all, anyone would want to curry favor with someone as powerful as him.
"For no particular reason; I'm just doing it because I want to," I replied as I began tending to his wound without waiting for his approval. He remained still and cooperative. His wound bled profusely and looked quite alarming, yet he seemed indifferent as if it were an entirely normal occurrence.
As I finished wrapping up, I mischievously wondered what kind of expression he would have if I tied a bow on him. Just as I was thinking about it, he suddenly grabbed my hand. I was taken aback, thinking he had discovered my thoughts, and quickly pleaded, "Big brother, I'm sorry! I won't tie a bow on you!"
He looked at me with clarity in his eyes and asked, "Where did you get that thing on your hand?"
Since I was wearing a Cat's Eye Stone Bracelet, I knew he was referring to that. I replied in a daze, "A wandering fortune teller gave it to me."
"Impossible!" he said firmly.
"Why is it impossible? My dad told me himself!" I almost blurted out.
He smiled, though it seemed somewhat forced and a bit excited. He released my hand and asked, "Does it have the character 'Zi' engraved inside?"
