Brother had no reaction to the ghostly screams, merely glancing at it and saying, "It won't."
"That's good."
The scream suddenly intensified, almost right in my ear. I couldn't help but cover my ears when I saw Brother suddenly draw his sword and swing it at me without hesitation. Before I could react, I felt a cool breeze pass over my head, and that thing let out another shriek before gradually falling silent. I touched my head with lingering fear; although I knew Brother wouldn't actually chop off my head, when I saw that blade coming toward me, my neck still felt uncontrollably cold.
Brother glanced at me again and walked away. I was momentarily stunned before snapping back to reality and hurriedly following him. Although he didn't seem much older than me, for some reason, I felt a strong sense of security beside him. Look at that Peeling Monster; he sliced it into three pieces with just two strikes! In the end, he even extinguished its soul directly. Thank goodness I'm not his enemy...
After walking with the young man for a while, I saw a flicker of fire ahead. There were about four people there, and as I got closer, I realized it was Pei Zi and the others!
"Pei Zi, Xiao Shou!" I called out to them excitedly. They were also very happy to see me, especially when they noticed the young man behind me; their expressions changed completely. They rushed over to me and looked at the young man, asking, "Feng Zi, how did you end up with Master Qing?"
"Qing... Master?" I was speechless; that person looked about our age. How did he become a master? However, this title suited him well because he gave off an air of someone who had seen through the mundane world and experienced great hardships—a true recluse. I really couldn't understand how someone so young could feel so desolate...
Pei Zi seemed oblivious to my expression as he had someone help bandage my wounds while continuing to look at Master Qing in amazement. "You don't know? Master Qing is very famous in the community—he appears and disappears mysteriously and prefers to work alone. Ordinary people can't hire him!"
"Really? What is his real name?" I asked thoughtfully as I glanced at Master Qing, only to find that he seemed completely unaware of us, still expressionless as he observed the layout around us.
Pei Zi shook his head in confusion and said, "I don't know; everyone just calls him Master Qing. His last name must be Qing."
"Yeah, yeah! I've heard about Master Qing's reputation too!" Wu Xiaoshou chimed in with a sly smile. "Following him this time is definitely safe; who knows, we might even get to touch a few Mingqi!"
I nodded, knowing that following him would be safe; there was no doubt about that. I had just witnessed his skills, and a person who could remain unfazed even while cutting Zongzi was either extremely confident or completely unaware of the dangers. Master Qing definitely belonged to the first category.
I glanced at him again and noticed he had already walked ahead, so I quickly followed. Pei Zi and the others also hurriedly packed their belongings and came along. Master Qing seemed completely oblivious to our presence, continuing on his way. Although I felt a bit awkward, I stubbornly stayed close behind him.
Before long, the sound of something scraping against glass echoed through the tomb passage again, accompanied by the sound of running footsteps. I immediately recognized what it was and hurriedly stepped closer to Master Qing, thinking that if he ran, I would grab his arm and run with him! After all, I trusted him more than Pei Zi and the others…
"What is that sound?" Wuma You began to panic again, and the others exchanged worried glances, unsure of what was making the noise. Only I was internally lamenting; I had almost been devoured by those bloody heads! Just thinking about the sensation of being eaten made my heart sink…
"Isn't that Song A?" Wu Xiaoshou said, and just then, Song A came running over. He looked relieved when he saw me but froze in shock upon seeing Master Qing. He stopped to catch his breath and asked me, "Have you seen Sudai?"
"Weren't you all together?" I asked in confusion.
"We got separated while running," Song A replied, then turned to look at Master Qing beside me and smiled, saying, "I didn't expect Master Qing to be here as well; it's truly a privilege to meet you!"
Master Qing merely glanced at Song A without speaking; his calm eyes seemed to see through everything. At that moment, I admired him quite a bit. I thought he understood the danger posed by those bloody heads, which was why he hadn't acted alone. It turned out he was quite kind; if it were an ordinary person, they would have undoubtedly chosen self-preservation upon seeing so many burdens. For the first time, I felt a deep admiration for someone I had just met! My first impression of him was exceptionally good!
The scraping sound grew louder. Suddenly, Song A snapped back to reality and said in panic, "Right! That thing behind us is really tough to deal with; we need to get out of here quickly!"
Just as I was about to agree, I noticed Master Qing furrowed his brow and started walking toward the sound. Surprised, I asked, "What are you doing?"
He didn’t answer me and continued walking in that direction. Determined, I followed him. To my surprise, Song A grabbed my arm again and urgently said, "Feng Zi, that thing is very powerful; we should leave here quickly!"
"I know," I smiled at him and chased after Master Qing. I believed he would find a way to handle it; besides, since he was going over there, he might have discovered something worth checking out. As I caught up with him, Song A and Pei Zi followed me as well. Song A sighed deeply and helplessly said, "I can't just stand by and watch you go to your death."
"Ha ha." I chuckled foolishly, and then I heard shouting and an increasingly strange sound of glass breaking coming from ahead. I looked up and, sure enough, saw a person entangled by those blood-red hairs. The figure was somewhat blurry, but I immediately recognized him and tentatively called out, "Dad, is that you?"
Upon hearing my voice, the person froze for a moment, then turned his bloodied face toward us and waved his hand anxiously, saying, "It's me! This place is very dangerous; you all need to leave now!"
How could I possibly leave? I had finally found you! I almost wanted to rush over to save him immediately, but Master Qing stopped me. I looked at him angrily, only to find his eyes still calm and steady as he said, "There's something behind him; I'll handle it."
After he spoke, I finally noticed that there was indeed something standing behind my dad. Perhaps due to the blood-red hair, that thing remained still, merely observing. I was immediately shocked because the figure was the Peeling Monster we had encountered before! I glanced apologetically at Master Qing, only to see that he had already run toward it. I hurriedly shouted to the people behind me, "Quickly grab the torches! Light anything that can burn! Hurry! That thing is afraid of fire!"
