Looking at Zhang Huai Xuan, Zhao Chuqiao felt a surge of sympathy. She knew that Zhang Huai Xuan must have gone through something to become like this. However, she could not give up; she had to find the truth and bring the murderer to justice.
"Miss Huai Xuan, we will not give up. We will continue the investigation until the truth is revealed," Zhao Chuqiao said firmly. She turned and walked out of the room, her mind replaying Zhang Huai Xuan's words. Her intuition grew stronger; this case was definitely not as simple as it appeared.
At the end of the corridor, Zhao Chuqiao found Li Mian standing there, carefully observing the surveillance footage on the wall. Seeing Zhao Chuqiao come out, Li Mian quickly approached her and asked in a low voice, "How did it go? Did she say anything?"
"She refused to cooperate and was very emotional; it seems she is hiding something," Zhao Chuqiao replied gravely, a hint of worry in her brow.
Li Mian nodded without saying much more, redirecting his attention back to the surveillance screen to continue reviewing the community's footage.
Watching Li Mian's focused demeanor, Zhao Chuqiao couldn't help but feel a sense of helplessness. The case seemed increasingly convoluted; she felt further away from the truth yet unable to grasp any key clues.
"Captain Li, I've decided to investigate Zhang Huai Xuan's past experiences; perhaps I can find some leads," Zhao Chuqiao said, taking a deep breath and speaking with determination.
"Alright, I'll keep reviewing the surveillance footage. Contact me immediately if you find anything," Li Mian agreed with a nod.
Zhao Chuqiao turned to leave, Zhang Huai Xuan's pained expression flashing in her mind. She knew that many unknown secrets lay behind this case, and she had to uncover them one by one.
"I will find the truth, no matter how difficult it may be," Zhao Chuqiao whispered softly, her gaze resolutely directed toward Zhang Huai Xuan's room.
Zhao Chuqiao stood at the door of Zhang Huai Xuan's room, silently gazing at the closed door. The image of Zhang Huai Xuan's pale face and her trembling voice flashed through her mind. Zhao Chuqiao took a deep breath and turned to leave the room; she decided to look into Zhang Huai Xuan's files, hoping to find some clues.
"Captain Li, I have decided to check Zhang Huai Xuan's files; perhaps I can find some leads," Zhao Chuqiao said firmly upon returning to the police station and finding Li Mian.
Li Mian nodded, indicating for Zhao Chuqiao to continue.
"I feel that this case is a bit strange; it seems like Zhang Huai Xuan is deliberately hiding something." Zhao Chuqiao frowned, her tone revealing a hint of anxiety.
"Indeed, she refused to cooperate and was very emotional; it seems she is concealing something," Li Mian agreed with a nod.
"I have reviewed Zhang Huai Xuan's files and found that she was once an outstanding student with excellent grades and good relationships. However, she suddenly became withdrawn and reclusive. Something must have happened during that time," Zhao Chuqiao said gravely, looking at Li Mian with determination in her eyes. "I believe that as long as we investigate carefully, we will uncover the truth."
"Alright, I will continue reviewing the surveillance footage. Contact me immediately if you find anything," Li Mian replied, nodding in agreement.
Zhao Chuqiao left Li Mian's office and headed straight to the archives. She opened Zhang Huai Xuan's file and began to read the information inside carefully.
"Wow, Huai Xuan actually got accepted into the law department at Peking University?" Zhao Chuqiao exclaimed in surprise as she looked at a certificate in the file. She flipped through the documents and found that Zhang Huai Xuan's academic performance during university was still outstanding.
"What could have caused her transformation from an excellent student to someone so withdrawn?" Zhao Chuqiao murmured to herself. Her gaze fell on Zhang Huai Xuan's scholarship application from university, which mentioned that she had gone through a painful experience during high school. However, the details were vague, only briefly mentioning "bullying" and "excessive pressure."
Zhao Chuqiao furrowed her brows as she began to examine Zhang Huai Xuan's file more seriously, trying to find more clues about her past experiences from the fragmented information.
"I saw Huai Xuan's high school graduation photo; there is someone standing next to her," Zhao Chuqiao said, pointing at the picture. "Her name is Wuyunhan, and they were classmates in high school. It seems they had a good relationship."
Li Mian took the photo and examined it closely, a look of surprise appearing on her face.
"Wuyunhan, I remember that name. She also filed a report for a case of rape! And the incident happened two years ago. At that time, she also refused to cooperate with the police investigation," Li Mian said, her expression turning thoughtful.
"Two years ago, I remember the officer in charge of that case was named Wang Hao. He told me that Wuyunhan refused to cooperate with the investigation and was very emotional, as if she was hiding something," Zhao Chuqiao recalled.
"Coincidence? Or is there more to this?" Li Mian's tone carried a hint of doubt. "I’ve decided to look into Wuyunhan's file to see if there’s any connection between her and Zhang Huai Xuan's case."
Zhao Chuqiao nodded, watching Li Mian leave with a sense of unease rising in her heart. She couldn't shake the feeling that this case was not simple.
