Qin Nan and others returned to the Daiwa Dynasty, beginning a long period of rest. During this time, military drills continued without interruption, as there were still more important matters to attend to in the Daiwa Dynasty; it was far from the time to lay down arms and return to farming.
Next, the goal of the Daiwa Dynasty, which was also the goal of Lu Chen and Sun Zizhao, was to unify the Central Plains and eliminate Korea and the Great Qi Dynasty. So far, the entire Central Plains had gradually evolved into three parts, with most of the cities and lands of the Great Zhou Dynasty under the control of the Great Qi Dynasty, while the remainder was jointly held by the Daiwa Dynasty and Korea.
However, Prairie King Murzaha had already pledged allegiance to the Daiwa Dynasty and voluntarily submitted, which was a good thing. Additionally, the Southern Seven States had also been incorporated into the territory of the Daiwa Dynasty. This meant that two-thirds of the Central Plains were now under Daiwa Dynasty control. However, this was still far from enough for Lu Chen and Sun Zizhao; they wanted not just land and cities but true unification. Only by taking over the entire Central Plains would it be meaningful; otherwise, a fragmented Central Plains ruled by several lords would serve no purpose. Their initial goal was entirely different; they sought significance.
At this point in time, attacking Korea and the Great Qi Dynasty was clearly premature. First, during the process of attacking the Great Zhou Dynasty, the Daiwa Dynasty had suffered losses in manpower and resources. The soldiers were fatigued, and there were insufficient warhorses, among other reasons that contributed to their unpreparedness. However, these issues would gradually be resolved by Underworld. After learning about this situation, Prairie King Murzaha provided 15,000 fine horses to assist the Daiwa Dynasty, effectively addressing their shortage of cavalry. With this new batch of horses, the cavalry of the Daiwa Dynasty could be replenished and even expanded; Prairie King's horses were indeed a timely blessing.
However, for Lu Chen personally, there was one crucial matter he needed to address: welcoming Star Picker's challenge.
Star Picker was Chen Shilong's junior disciple and a core disciple of Yin Yang Gate with remarkable cultivation skills. Although he was Chen Shilong's junior brother, his cultivation level far surpassed that of Chen Shilong. In terms of cultivation alone, Star Picker's level was even slightly higher than Lu Chen's. Their agreed-upon duel had been set long ago after the fall of the Great Zhou Dynasty.
Now that the Great Zhou Dynasty had been destroyed and Defender of the Realm had fallen in battle, the last Emperor Huangfu Zhen had entered a monastery at Eastern Shaolin Temple and renounced worldly affairs.
This outcome signified that the Great Zhou Dynasty had completely departed from existence and become part of history. Thus, Lu Chen's decisive battle with Star Picker was about to begin. The time was set for Vernal Equinox; now that the heavy snow on the ground had melted and tender grass shoots were sprouting from the earth, it symbolized the arrival of spring. The duel between Lu Chen and Star Picker would take place on East Sea Blind Man Islands. West of Wind Blinder Archipelago lay Daiwa Dynasty's homeland; as for Wind Blinder Archipelago itself, it did not count as part of it since it consisted of desolate islands with no inhabitants.
Wind Blinder Archipelago stretched for thousands of miles with no one residing there; it often served as hideouts for pirates. It was once famously known as the headquarters for Anti-Zhou Church and Red Robe Sect. However, after the establishment of Daiwa Dynasty, Red Robe Sect integrated into it and cleared its criminal record to become law-abiding citizens. Yet Wind Blind Island remained desolate; after Red Robe Sect left, there were fewer pirates around. The Daiwa Dynasty was not unwilling to accept this land but found it difficult to govern due to its vastness and lack of sufficient military strength for defense.
Accepting a piece of land requires not only its value for production but also involves defense measures such as stationing troops, establishing protectorates, appointing officials, etc., which is an extremely tedious process. Therefore, no one wanted to take over Wind Blinder Archipelago; doing so would be like throwing money into a bottomless pit with no returns.
The decisive battle between Qin Nan and Star Picker took place on Wind Blind Girl Island. On the day of their duel, Lu Chen arrived early with his trusted allies: Yuanmo Laozu, Treasure Guardian Beast, Princess Yuanzheng, Yue Shaoting, among others who came to witness or support him. Among them were also some powerful figures from other factions such as Sang Tuling from Five Element Sect, Xing Ru Xie from Star Gate, Temple Master Ma Yi from Luban Temple along with his disciple Kalan Prince. Unexpectedly, a few individuals whom Lu Chen did not anticipate arrived as well; they greeted him and introduced themselves as representatives from Yushan Kingdom sent by Zhulian Queen to observe Lu Chen's decisive battle.
Zhulian Queen was once Princess Zhulan and shared a past with Lu Chen. However, she had now ascended to become Queen of Yushan Kingdom—a position far beyond her previous status as a princess—now truly a queen wielding significant power in both court and society.
However, it is precisely because of this that the Zhulian Queen cannot easily leave the Yushan Kingdom, depart from the royal family, or visit any decisive battles. Her identity has already determined that she can never leave the Yushan Kingdom, the royal family, or the Underworld; her fate is sealed.
Being an emperor or a king is not as easy as it seems; it is far from the carefree life depicted in popular tales, with stories of seventy-two concubines and three thousand beauties in the harem being pure fabrications. An emperor has no freedom at all; every aspect of his life is predetermined, and he generally cannot leave the palace. This is the true nature of being an emperor; it is not without reason that one might feel unfortunate to be born into a royal family.
Although the Zhulian Queen did not come, the situation regarding Lu Chen would be conveyed to her by these individuals.
In fact, these individuals are also known to Qin Nan, as they have fought alongside each other before. They are part of the Tu Family, one of the Seven Great Families of the Demon King Dynasty, known as the Five Tiger Brothers. Among them, the fifth brother, Tu Shijie, still carries himself with an air of arrogance, dismissing everything around him.
Lu Chen has already arrived; however, Star Picker has yet to make an appearance. As the initiator of the challenge, Star Picker can afford to be more dazzling and attention-grabbing. This enigmatic youth emerged from the Yin Yang Gate to assist the Great Qi Dynasty in their conquests, establishing significant territories. His abilities are evident and impressive; considering his background from the Yin Yang Gate only adds to his mystique.
After waiting for about a cup of tea's time, dark clouds suddenly gathered above the Wind Blinder Archipelago, ominously signaling rain. In a moment of astonishment among the crowd, those clouds abruptly parted in the middle, revealing a brilliant light. As this light shone forth, everyone caught a glimpse of mountains and rivers within that golden glow, with divine birds soaring and immortals fishing—clearly indicating the location of the Yin Yang Gate's mountain entrance. At this moment, the crowd erupted in excitement because they had arrived just in time for Lu Chen and Star Picker's grand showdown while witnessing the grandeur of the Yin Yang Gate. This journey was certainly not in vain; it held immense significance.
The location of the Yin Yang Gate's mountain entrance is shrouded in mystery; aside from their own members, very few outsiders have ever seen it.
Now, however, many people have witnessed it firsthand. Although they only caught a glimpse—like seeing just a tip of an iceberg—it was enough to fill them with pride and joy. They could share this experience as a myth during casual conversations over meals and tea.
Star Picker's entrance revealed aspects of their Sect intentionally; this confirmed rumors that not only is the Yin Yang Gate mysterious but also powerful. Their Sect seems hidden within a grain of sand; wherever a gentle breeze carries it, that becomes their location—not fixed at all—which adds another layer to their enigma.
Moreover, Star Picker did not come alone; Yuan Ruyi and other Supreme Masters of the Yin Yang Gate were secretly observing from afar.
As Star Picker’s proud disciple facing off against others today, they naturally would not ignore him. However, only a few present knew about Essence and others' existence, including Lu Chen. Lu Chen blinked and looked into the sky where nothing appeared visible on the surface; yet Essence and others were right there—more mysterious than anything tangible.
Thus began the showdown between Star Picker and Lu Chen. The outcome was a complete defeat for Star Picker as Lu Chen prepared to deliver a fatal blow. However, at a critical moment, Essence intervened.
"One should spare others when possible. Lu Chenyu is indeed formidable. Today, my disciple Star Picker has been defeated. However, I ask Lu Chenyu to spare his life; after all, I have only this one direct disciple in my lifetime, and I do not wish for my lineage to end here. We shall meet again."
Essence invisibly took Star Picker away, never revealing himself. With a strand of mysterious light, he enveloped Star Picker and vanished into the gates of Yin Yang Gate. Soon after, the light disappeared, the dark clouds returned to their original state, gradually dispersing from In the Sky. Yin Yang Gate came swiftly and left just as quickly, disappearing like a breeze without leaving any regrets.
It was only at this moment that everyone realized the duel had ended: Star Picker had been completely defeated, Lu Chen emerged victorious, and Star Picker had not died; he had been saved by his master Essence. However, no one clearly saw how Essence rescued him or when he disappeared. They only noticed that the entity in In the Sky was slowly changing until it ultimately vanished.
This demonstrates the power of Yin Yang Gate. As the foremost among the Four Great Sects, with its leader Supreme Origin hailed as the top figure of the Taoist Sect, it is clear that this reputation is well-deserved.
