Chu Yuzhu paused for a moment and said, "Lu Chen, your diligence and hard work have not gone unnoticed by this Princess. Your potential is excellent, so this Princess intends to promote you. From now on, you will be the head of my training personnel, and your title will be Training Supervisor. You are to oversee them for this Princess," Chu Yuzhu said excitedly.
Lu Chen immediately bowed his head and replied, "Yes, thank you for your great kindness, Princess. I will serve you wholeheartedly, dedicating myself until death."
In secret, Lu Chen had other thoughts. His eyes darted back and forth; he wasn't particularly pleased about this promotion. Being the head of the training personnel still meant being a subordinate, and who knows when he might end up being beaten.
At that moment, a servant rushed into the training grounds and whispered a few words in Chu Yuzhu's ear.
After listening, Chu Yuzhu's expression turned both surprised and delighted. She dismissed the servant and then said to Huang Jiao beside her, "Second Master, the Master has returned. He discovered traces of Demon God Li Shi'an at Killing Green Mountain and is now waiting in the council hall. Let's go take a look."
"Yes, Princess!" Immediately, a group of people left the training grounds.
Lu Chen read the words on the Lesser Yin Classic; with his Yin Spirit having left his body, his hearing and vision were far superior to ordinary people, so he clearly heard the servant's report and became alert.
"Killing Green Mountain?" Killing Green Mountain was a famous mountain within the Western Seven States, stretching for hundreds of miles and serving as the boundary between the Western Seven States and Middle-earth. Lu Chen knew a bit about it, but he had never heard of Demon God Li Shi'an.
"Lu Chen, congratulations on becoming the supervisor! That beating was worth it," while Lu Chen was lost in thought, other training subordinates gathered around him, chattering incessantly.
Lu Chen sneered coldly and shouted, "Worth it? What do you know? Getting beaten and then crawling over to lick someone's shoes—what a bunch of useless fools! Hurry up and practice; if Princess is not satisfied later, I will whip you all."
"Hmph, relying on someone else's power."
"Lapdog! Thinking you're something special just because you're now a supervisor."
Those people were also shrewd; since they couldn't get close to Lu Chen, they instead threw out some sarcastic remarks. Lu Chen was easily promoted to supervisor, which surely made some people unhappy. However, he wouldn't bother with them.
He still felt dissatisfied inside; although he had more than a dozen subordinates under him now, he was still being suppressed. Even if he was officially appointed as supervisor, in name he was still just a true lackey. If Princess were to become displeased one day, he could still face punishment or even be beaten to death.
If he wanted to escape this situation, the only way was to become stronger; that was the only path forward.
Chu Yuzhu and Huang Jiao went to the council hall for discussions and likely wouldn't return today. After practicing for a while longer, Lu Chen exited Han Wangfu through the back door. With the silver awarded by Chu Yuzhu, he went to buy some medicinal herbs in town to strengthen his Flesh and also picked up a few pounds of Old Wine along the way.
After buying the medicinal herbs and returning to his room, a jar of Bruise Ointment was already placed there.
This Bruise Ointment was personally awarded by Chu Yuzhu, contained in a red porcelain jar, and was said to be hand-prepared by the Imperial Physician from Inside the Residence, specifically for core individuals. Servants could only obtain it through rewards.
He broke the wax seal with his nails and brought it to his nose to sniff. He could tell it contained several extremely precious herbs like Snake Bone, Chuanwu, and Ginseng, which were hard to come by and should be used sparingly.
He brewed a pot of hot water with the purchased herbs for a bath, carefully storing the leftover herbal residue since it was also very valuable and could be saved for next time.
After bathing, he scooped some of the bruise ointment and applied it repeatedly on his body, rubbing vigorously until his skin turned red and hot. The accumulated fatigue and swelling from the past few days were swept away.
Next, Lu Chen took a few swigs of strong liquor. Drinking alcohol was beneficial for the body, especially strong liquor; in moderation and at the right time, it could kill parasites in the intestines, promote circulation, and help dissolve blood clots.
"Train the Qi, cultivate Yang, refine the spirit!" Qi refers to Qigong. Practicing martial arts and honing the Flesh is best achieved through Qigong. Qigong utilizes True Qi within the Flesh to refine Flesh Wounds, Bones, and internal organs. Although Lu Chen had never reached the realms of traditional Qigong, he knew a bit about it.
Qigong Level One: Body Explosion.
Qigong Level Two: Unity of Man.
Qigong Level Three: Divine Power Body.
Qigong Level Four: Life and Death Catastrophe.
Qigong Level Five: Longevity and Freedom.
Qigong Level Six: Martial God Secret Realm.
The Divine Power Body in traditional teachings refers to boundless divine strength, bones as strong as steel, tendons like rubber that can be stretched repeatedly.
As for the War God, that represents the strongest self below and the mightiest Flesh capable of Shattering the Void and overturning humanity.
After making some preparations, Lu Chen closed the door tightly and headed towards the back mountain.
Due to the effects of alcohol and herbs, Lu Chen felt invigorated and energetic as he walked briskly, seeking a secluded spot to practice his martial arts.
He was practicing the Crazy Serpent Seven Star Classic, which he had stealthily learned from Huang Jiao the night before.
Lu Chen had memorized the key phrases of the Crazy Serpent Seven Star Classic, and he had also grasped about forty to fifty percent of the techniques. He felt fortunate that Huang Jiao was like a living Fist Manual, saving him the trouble of deducing everything on his own.
The part that left the deepest impression on him from Huang Jiao's practice last night was the Flesh rotation, advancing with a serpentine movement while simultaneously delivering powerful punches.
Recalling this in his mind, Lu Chen imitated Huang Jiao, moving forward with a winding path, executing the Flesh rotation, stepping on the Seven Stars, and unleashing a flurry of punches.
"The techniques are still incomplete; I only have half of it. I need to find an opportunity to learn the second half as well."
After practicing several times, Lu Chen was acutely aware of the gap between himself and Huang Jiao. It wasn't just that he lacked complete techniques; even with similar movements, Huang Jiao's True Qi flowed effortlessly, causing nearby leaves to tremble and fall. What he lacked was still the refinement of Flesh.
Yin Spirit has Yin Yuan, while Qigong has Yang Yuan; however, after countless explorations and improvements by many people, it is now called True Qi.
Having mastered the first half of the Furious Serpent Seven Stars Classic, Lu Chen noticed that it was getting dark and decided to return home.
He specifically sought out a servant to inquire whether the Princess had come to the training grounds today. After receiving a positive response that she had not come, Lu Chen finally breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, she hadn't shown up; otherwise, if she discovered he had left without permission, it would have been difficult to find an excuse.
After dinner, Lu Chen returned to his room, closed the door securely, and began studying the Lesser Yin Classic.
"Practice law to cultivate spirit, cultivate Yin, and nurture soul." Practicing Qigong uses Flesh as the furnace, True Qi as coal, and Fist Technique as effort; strength is transformation. It should be noted that cultivating Yin Spirit follows the same principle: using Yin Spirit as the furnace, Yin Yuan as coal, Spell as effort; Yin Method is transformation.
Cultivating Qi strengthens the body; practicing law strengthens Yin.
To cultivate Yin Spirit, there is only Spell. Lu Chen did not possess any methods; thus, he was merely a pure ghost who could only wander at night.
"Huang Jiao will definitely go to practice in the back mountain again; I need to check it out," Lu Chen thought as his Flesh lay on the bed while his Yin Spirit underwent Disembodiment. Since it was still early, he planned to wander around Han Wangfu first.
As the servants residing in the back courtyard gradually fell asleep, Lu Chen floated his Yin Spirit into the front courtyard.
"Master, I heard that during your trip to the Central Plains, you discovered traces of the Old Demon. What are your plans?"
Lu Chen was drifting when he suddenly heard a barely perceptible voice in the air, which sounded somewhat like Chu Yuzhu.
Following the sound, he found a courtyard that was not surrounded by buildings and was relatively isolated. Outside, there were heavily armed guards from Han Wangfu, indicating that this was likely the meeting hall.
Lu Chen arrived at the wall outside the courtyard, where he could clearly hear the conversation inside.
He heard a slightly hoarse yet incredibly steady voice say, "Indeed, I returned from the Central Plains with an unexpected discovery. That Li Shian, the Old Demon, is cultivating Yin Spirit at Killing Green Mountain and has achieved great success in the Yin Method after enduring numerous trials. I have some past grievances with him. In the past, I would not have bothered with him as he hid deep in his cave, but now I absolutely cannot allow him to gain power. He has another identity that others do not know, but I am very clear about it. The Anti-Zhou Church has been repeatedly suppressed by the people; this person is a remnant of the previous dynasty. If he were to rally support, many would respond, which would undoubtedly threaten my Great Zhou Empire."
Another adult male voice responded, "According to Brother Killing, this person has made some progress in cultivating Yin Spirit and may be difficult to deal with. Since he is a remnant of the previous dynasty, I can request permission from the emperor to lead an army to eliminate him."
This man was King Han Chumang, whom Lu Chen had met a few times and had heard speak before.
Killing was indeed Han Wangfu's Head of Guards and referred to Chu Mang as brother. From what he said, it was clear that he also practiced Yin Spirit and possessed some skills beyond mere Qigong practitioners pursuing martial arts.
Killing continued, "No worries, Your Highness need not be concerned. I will handle this matter myself. Since Li Shian is cultivating Yin Spirit, he belongs to a special category of criminals; special individuals require special methods. I have calculated that he will experience a period of weakness right after exiting his cave; I have also pinpointed the exact timing. We will set off in three days and exploit his weaknesses while waiting for an opportunity."
"What if he hides in his cave and doesn't come out?" Chu Mang asked, showing a bit of naivety as evidenced by his inability to father a son despite marrying eleven wives.
"That's easy to handle. The best nourishment for someone in the weakness phase of Yin Spirit is fresh blood. We can lure him with blood; if we capture a few living people and cut off their hands and feet, the scent of blood will travel for miles, and he will surely take the bait."
"Great! It sounds very exciting; I want to go too," Chu Yuzhu pouted.
"It's too dangerous for you, Princess. This could be problematic; when I'm fully focused on dealing with Li Shian, the Old Demon, I may find it hard to keep an eye on you," Killing urged anxiously.
"I don't need you to look after me; I have so many practice partners. Second Master can protect me," Chu Yuzhu insisted resolutely.
"Alright, my child, it's too dangerous for you to go. When you cultivate Yin Spirit later on, I'll have Killing bring back any magical artifacts from Li Shian for you," Chu Mang added from the side.
"No way! How can I back down from such an exciting event? I'll just watch from the sidelines; I won't cause any trouble or embarrass my father," Chu Yuzhu giggled.
Chu Yuzhu acted playfully, making promises, and even Chu Mang couldn't stand it anymore. He said to Killing, "Alright, alright, let her go. I will send more experts to protect her closely. I don't believe that Li Shian is that formidable; as the saying goes, two fists can't fight against four hands."
"That's not advisable, my lord. Li Shian is not to be underestimated," Killing wanted to persuade him further, but after thinking it over, he gave up and could only shake his head and sigh.
All of this conversation was overheard by Lu Chen, who thought these people were truly cruel, using lives to lure that Old Demon. He feared it would be a one-way trip and murmured to himself, "In three days, I must be ready!"
With half of his body still outside the wall, Lu Chen curiously leaned in to peek inside. He saw the meeting hall brightly lit with candles, casting shadows of several figures.
Just then, Killing suddenly shouted, "Someone's there!"
Immediately, the guards from Han Wangfu surrounding the meeting hall sprang into action, preparing to catch whoever was intruding.
This startled Lu Chen, who quickly pulled his head back and turned to run. However, Yin Spirit couldn't move quickly and could only slide along the ground. Fortunately, there was a stinky ditch nearby, and without thinking twice, Lu Chen jumped right in.
Yin Spirit was formless and made no sound upon hitting the water, quietly gliding along with the current. In the distance, the meeting hall was ablaze with light as guards holding torches searched back and forth.
