Seeing the arrival of Liu Guanfeng, he finally relaxed; the person coming was none other than Liu Yongmin, the father of Copper Bull and Iron Bull, and Liu Guanfeng's uncle.
Liu Yongmin charged into the crowd still hammering at the door, wielding a heavy iron staff. A few people who were still peeking through the window were caught off guard and sent flying by Liu Yongmin's swing. Just as those at the door realized what was happening, Liu Yongmin had already leaped forward and knocked two assassins out of the way with another swing.
The Guardians who followed closely behind quickly dispatched the assassins that Liu Yongmin had knocked aside. Even their mounts were surrounded and beaten by the Guardians' mounts, suffering serious injuries or death.
Liu Yongmin stood at the entrance, holding his staff with both hands, looking quite imposing. Copper Bull and Iron Bull watched their father's bravery from inside the house, bouncing around excitedly and insisting on joining him in battle. Seeing his two sons wanting to rush out, Liu Yongmin immediately stopped them. Although the Spirit Gathering Array protected the house, it did not block sound, allowing for direct communication between the inside and outside.
Liu Yongmin said to Copper Bull and Iron Bull, "You two little rascals listen carefully. Your main task right now is to ensure the safety of Third Young Master. If anything happens to him, I will not spare you two even in death. Do you understand?" The brothers were momentarily stunned but quickly nodded vigorously, repeatedly assuring him, "Father, please rest assured, we understand."
Although Copper Bull and Iron Bull were stopped by their father, they remained very excited in the room. At that moment, their father's figure seemed exceptionally grand in their eyes.
Just then, five black-clad figures climbed over the wall again. Judging by their strength, these five were no ordinary opponents; they had likely reached the peak of Intermediate Knight and could become Advanced Knights at any moment. The five knights split into two groups; two of them armed with swords surrounded Liu Yongmin while the other three turned towards the Guardians.
The Guardians of Liu Manor were mostly Junior Knights, with only a few Squad Leaders being Intermediate Knights. There were only two or three lower-level Advanced Knights like Liu Yongmin. Therefore, when three high-level Intermediate Knights charged into the Guardians' ranks, it was like wolves entering a flock of sheep. Soon, more than a dozen Guardians were overwhelmed by the three black-clad figures; however, none of them retreated voluntarily and continued to resist desperately.
Most of the Guardians' mounts ranged from second to third rank; only those above Intermediate Knight had mounts above Fourth Rank. The black-clad figures' Fourth Rank and Fifth Tier mounts attacked fiercely against low-level magical beasts in front of them, quickly killing several second-rank beasts. Overall, the situation for the Guardians looked grim as they faced total collapse.
At this moment, Liu Yongmin held his iron staff firmly while standing next to his two mounts: one was a third-rank Rock Lizard and the other a Fifth Tier Mud Lizard. Liu Guanfeng had never understood why Liu Yongmin had such an affinity for lizards; one mount was third rank while the other was Fifth Tier—one large and one small lizard.
Liu Yongmin looked at the two black-clad assassins across from him and asked, "Who are you? Why are you here to massacre my Liu Manor today?"
One of the tall black-clad men sneered coldly and replied, "It doesn't matter who we are; we serve Crown Prince Sun Yong. As for our reason—Liu Yongmin has colluded with Third Prince with intentions of rebellion. So today, don't expect any survivors from your Liu Family."
Hearing this reason, Liu Guanfeng's heart sank. Throughout history, the only way to deal with the crime of treason was to kill without mercy. In fact, ever since Liu Guanfeng learned about the private soldiers, he had anticipated today's outcome. However, he did not expect that Sun Yong would pin such a charge on Liu Yong'an. This accusation not only meant extermination of the entire family but also left a permanent stain on their reputation.
Liu Yongmin laughed loudly, "Intent to rebel? You should inquire about when my family’s general ever had such thoughts. Whether in Capital City or Rain City, he has always been loved by the people for his fairness and integrity. As for the notion of rebellion, that must be something the Crown Prince himself wishes to do."
The two men in black were enraged upon hearing this. "Is it something a mere servant like you can comment on regarding the Crown Prince? For this alone, you deserve death. Prepare to die!" With that, the two assassins lunged forward with their swords.
Seeing the two assassins attacking, Liu Yongmin shouted to those behind him, "Protect Third Young Master!" He then raised his staff to meet them. The two mounts beside Liu Yongmin also charged at the two assassins, both being Fourth Rank mounts. Since their levels were similar, they were locked in a fierce battle.
Liu Yongmin first charged at the assassin on the left. His staff was longer than the opponent's sword, so when the assassin thrust at him, Liu Yongmin swept horizontally at the opponent's waist. The man in black hurriedly tried to dodge but it was too late; Liu Yongmin's staff swept past the assassin’s abdomen without hitting him directly. As an Advanced Knight, one of Liu Yongmin's greatest strengths was his ability to force Fighting Qi outwards for two meters through his weapon, sending the man in black flying.
After knocking back one assassin, another came charging at Liu Yongmin from behind. He quickly retracted his staff and thrust its end towards the face of the second man in black. The assassin was startled; if this strike hit his head, he would surely die. However, he could not withdraw in time and had no choice but to raise his sword defensively as he charged toward Liu Yongmin.
With a loud crash, the second assassin was also sent flying by Liu Yongmin. After repelling both men in black, Liu Yongmin did not stop but charged straight towards them. With one strike each, both assassins fell silent.
It wasn't that the two men in black were much weaker than Liu Yongmin; rather, they had underestimated him from the start, thinking that if they delayed for a bit longer, their three companions would finish off the Guardians and come to assist them. They believed that Liu Yongmin had just gone through a fierce battle and would be fatigued. But it wasn't until Liu Yongmin made his move that they realized how wrong they were. Yet by then, no one was left to give them another chance.
Seeing their companions defeated by Liu Yongmin, one of the remaining three men in black broke free from battling with the Guardians and rushed towards Liu Yongmin with a Greatsword in hand, striking down without hesitation. Liu Yongmin blocked with his iron staff and then kicked out with his right leg at the man in black, forcing him back several steps. Not giving his opponent a moment to breathe, Liu Yongmin followed up with a powerful downward strike.
The man in black attempted to parry with his Greatsword; sparks flew as their weapons clashed. Seizing an opportunity, he rolled away on the ground to evade Liu Yongmin's attack. Quickly getting up and wiping sweat from his forehead with his left hand, he realized how close he had come to being crushed.
Although aware of some disparity in strength between himself and Liu Yongmin, he had no choice but to press forward due to his mission. He charged at Liu Yongmin with three swift strikes but found them easily deflected. Not daring to advance recklessly anymore, he resorted to dodging and weaving around Liu Yongmin instead; since their strengths were somewhat comparable, neither could gain an upper hand immediately.
Gradually, silence enveloped Liu Yongmin's surroundings as all of his Guardians had been slain by two other men in black. The remaining two were also suffering under relentless attacks from a group of Guardians and bore injuries themselves. Even more tragically for them were their mounts; although they had managed to slaughter most of the low-ranking mounts belonging to the Guardians, both of their magical beasts were severely wounded and could no longer participate in battle.
At this moment, both of Liu Yongmin's mounts and those of the two remaining men in black lay on the ground—though not dead, they were heavily injured.
Liu Yongmin could only deal with the three men in black in front of him. After feinting with his stick and forcing one of the men back a few steps, he quickly jumped in front of the other two. This sudden move startled them; they hadn't expected Liu Yongmin to charge at them, and they hurriedly raised their weapons to confront him.
The two men in black, caught off guard, found themselves in disarray as Liu Yongmin attacked. In the chaos, his iron rod struck one of the men, knocking him out of the fight. Liu Yongmin intended to finish off that man, but the other two teamed up to thwart his plan.
Once again, Liu Yongmin was entangled with the two men in black. Meanwhile, within the Spirit Gathering Array, Copper Bull and Iron Bull had lost their initial excitement and were now filled with worry, especially since their father was at a disadvantage outside.
The two looked at Liu Guanfeng. "Third Brother, let us help Father; he can barely hold on."
Liu Guanfeng watched Liu Yongmin struggling in the courtyard, feeling a deep sense of distress. Should he help or not? This question lingered in his mind.
At that moment, Liu Yongmin seemed to sense something. He swung his iron rod forcefully, pushing the two men back and seizing the opportunity to retreat.
Facing away from the door, Liu Yongmin shouted, "You two little brats listen carefully! It doesn't matter if I die, but if anything happens to Third Young Master, don't think I won't disown you both! Since you became Third Young Master's attendants, your lives belong to him. Remember, his life is your guarantee for survival." After saying this, Liu Yongmin continued to fight against the men in black.
His words silenced Copper Bull and Iron Bull. Liu Guanfeng could only grip his sword tightly and continue watching the battle unfold.
At that moment, a faint groan came from a corner of the room. The man in black who had rushed in earlier had just regained consciousness. The pain coursing through his body made him groan softly, which immediately caught Copper Bull and Iron Bull's attention.
Seeing the man lying on the ground, Copper Bull and Iron Bull each grabbed a leg and dragged him toward the door. Unable to go out and help their father, they could only vent their frustrations within the Spirit Gathering Array. The unfortunate one was the man in black who had just woken up. The brothers relentlessly pounded him with fists and kicks until Bao Rui and Dai joined in.
Liu Guanfeng glanced at his attendants but did not intervene. He understood that these individuals needed an outlet for their frustrations; he also wanted to vent but knew that his priority was to calmly observe the situation in the courtyard.
