The next day, after breakfast, Bao Rui and the other two arrived at Liu Guanfeng's room. Liu Guanfeng welcomed them inside, saying, "From now on, you three will come to my room every morning to practice. You are allowed to practice for two hours each day. If you have school later, we will switch to the evening. Now you can start."
After Liu Guanfeng finished speaking, Bao Rui and the others sat cross-legged on the prepared mats. Liu Guanfeng activated the Spirit Gathering Array. The three of them felt a simultaneous tremor in their bodies as they sensed that the elemental energy inside was much denser than outside.
When Qinglong created this Spirit Gathering Array for Liu Guanfeng, it was mentioned that its range covered the entire room, and there would be little noticeable change outside. The array absorbed all elemental attributes equally; only those skilled in balanced attributes could perceive any changes in elemental energy.
Others might only notice a slight decrease in elemental density, but it wouldn't affect their cultivation. This is also why the Azure Dragon Master used a Fifth Tier Core instead of a higher-level one; the higher the Core's level, the better the absorption effect, but it also caused greater reactions.
Qinglong had mentioned that when someone with non-Five Elements Balance attributes practiced inside, Liu Guanfeng himself could not cultivate. Therefore, Liu Guanfeng could only borrow two Medical Books from his father to study carefully. Two hours passed quickly, and when Liu Guanfeng removed the Spirit Gathering Array, Bao Rui and the others seemed reluctant to stop.
The three of them stood up and approached Liu Guanfeng. Copper Bull was about to ask something when Liu Guanfeng smiled and shook his head, saying to them, "Remember, this is a secret between us." Bao Rui pulled Copper Bull along and said, "Thank you, Third Brother, for trusting us."
"You all go prepare. I want to go out for a stroll today; it's been a long time since I've been to the streets. We'll have lunch out today," Bao Rui said as the three went out to get ready.
In a short while, Liu Guanfeng and the others were ready and left the house accompanied by two servants. Although they were just going to the street, it was good for two adults to follow since they were still only five or six years old.
Liu Guanfeng hadn't been out for a long time. Being the child of a City Defense General made people keep their distance from him wherever he went. As a child, he had very few friends outside of his few companions at home.
The four of them began wandering aimlessly through herb shops, weapon stores, accessory shops... Before long, it was noon. They found a small hotel in the northern part of the city and ordered several signature dishes to eat.
As they were finishing their meal, a ragged little figure appeared at the entrance of the restaurant. It was a boy about four or five years old.
From his face, it was clear he hadn't washed in a long time; it was hard to tell what he looked like. However, judging by his facial features, he seemed to have potential for good looks.
The little beggar saw that Liu Guanfeng's table was almost finished eating and approached them. "Gentlemen," he said, "could you please spare me some food? I haven't eaten in several days."
Two servants who came out with Liu Guanfeng immediately walked over. "Go away, get lost."
At that moment, the hotel Boss also approached. "Little beggar, hurry up and leave, or I'll hit you."
Liu Guanfeng frowned upon hearing them and stood up. "Step back."
The two servants retreated, and the hotel Boss leaned against the side. Liu Guanfeng then walked over to the little beggar. "Younger Brother, are you very hungry?"
"Yes." The little beggar nodded vigorously.
"What do you want to eat? Just point to whatever you want; I'll pay for it, and you just focus on eating." In his past life, Liu Guanfeng loved children the most, regardless of gender, but unfortunately, he did not have any children of his own.
The little beggar looked at Liu Guanfeng and, seeing that he wasn't angry, timidly said, "Big brother, you can just give me what you have left." After saying that, he looked at the leftover food on their plates and swallowed hard.
"Big brother, can I eat?" The little beggar asked courageously.
Liu Guanfeng nodded. "Go ahead and eat."
The little beggar quickly ran to the table and poured all the leftovers into his broken bowl. He even took half a steamed bun that was left from earlier.
Liu Guanfeng looked at the little beggar in confusion and asked him, "Why don't you eat here?"
The little beggar shook his head. "I want to take it back for my grandpa. He hasn't eaten yet."
Liu Guanfeng turned to the Boss and said, "Boss, please get this child four steamed buns."
The Boss turned around and instructed the waiter to bring four buns to the little beggar.
The little beggar repeatedly thanked him and then ran out of the hotel. This little beggar piqued Liu Guanfeng's curiosity, and he asked the hotel Boss, "Do you know where that child lives?"
The Boss shook his head, "I don't know the exact location, but it seems to be in the far north, where all the poor people gather."
After settling the bill, Liu Guanfeng left the hotel and headed north. The two attendants behind him saw that Liu Guanfeng was going to find the little beggar and quickly stepped forward to stop him.
"Third Young Master, we should go back. Don't look for that child; there are plenty of kids like him in the city. You can't help them all. Besides, the north side of the city is very chaotic; we're worried it won't be safe for you. If something happens, I can't take responsibility."
Liu Guanfeng looked up at the two attendants, "Just follow me; you don't need to worry about anything else. If something happens, I'll handle it. If you keep talking, you can just go back." After saying this, he ignored them and continued on his way.
Arriving at the Poverty Stricken Area in the far north of the city, Liu Guanfeng walked slowly. This place truly lived up to its reputation as the most chaotic area; there were hardly any intact houses, and everywhere he looked were ragged people living here at society's lowest level.
As Liu Guanfeng walked along, many people turned to look at him. His group of six was dressed in a manner that clearly did not belong in this area. As he walked, Liu Guanfeng suddenly heard a child crying ahead.
He quickened his pace and saw that it was indeed the little boy he had encountered in the hotel. At that moment, there were five or six other children around him, all about ten years old.
The little boy's bowl of food was in the hands of one of the older kids in the center, who was eating from it bite by bite. The little boy was sitting on the ground crying; seeing this, Liu Guanfeng understood what had happened.
These older kids had taken away the food that the little boy had prepared for his grandfather. What angered him most was that these ten-year-olds were bullying a four or five-year-old child.
Liu Guanfeng quickly walked over and helped the child sitting on the ground to his feet, then coldly looked at the boy in the middle holding the bowl of food. "Did you just bully him and take his food?"
The boy in the middle looked at Liu Guanfeng. Although Liu Guanfeng was much younger than him, he could tell from Liu Guanfeng's clothing and the attendants behind him that Liu Guanfeng was definitely not someone they could mess with.
The boy placed the little beggar's bowl on the ground, repeatedly saying, "I'm sorry, I won't do it again, please forgive me, young master." Then he ran off with several other children.
Bao Rui walked over, picked up the bowl from the ground, and handed it to the little beggar. The little beggar clutched it tightly as if it were a treasure, continuously saying, "Thank you, big brother." He then moved forward, and Liu Guanfeng followed him.
"Where is your home, Younger Brother?"
"My home is just ahead; we are almost there. Big brother, will you come to my house as a guest? My grandfather will be very happy." The little beggar smiled through his tears.
The little beggar led Liu Guanfeng and the others toward his home. Soon they stopped in front of a structure that could hardly be called a house. It only had a roof over part of it, and there was no need for a door to enter.
Before they even stepped inside, a foul smell of decay hit them. The little beggar ran into the house while shouting:
"Grandpa, Grandpa, we have guests! This big brother gave me lots of delicious food. You haven't eaten for days; come eat something!"
When Liu Guanfeng entered the house, he was stunned because lying on what was presumably the only bed was an old man who looked to be around sixty years old with graying hair. Liu Guanfeng realized that the little beggar's grandfather had already passed away. The rotten smell came from the bed.
"Grandpa~ Grandpa. Why aren't you speaking? Are you too hungry to talk? You've been lying here for several days," the little beggar continued shaking his grandfather's arm.
Seeing this, Liu Guanfeng couldn't hold back his tears any longer. What a good child; seeing his grandfather asleep without food and not wanting to disturb him. He probably still didn't know that his grandfather had already died. Liu Guanfeng walked over and pulled the little beggar outside.
The little beggar was startled and thought Liu Guanfeng was upset. He hurriedly said, "Big brother, please don't be angry; Grandpa will wake up soon. He will definitely be happy. We haven't had guests in a long time."
Liu Guanfeng and the little beggar stepped out of the house. Turning back to the little beggar, he said, "Younger Brother, your grandfather has already died."
The little beggar looked at Liu Guanfeng in confusion and asked, "Big brother, what does 'died' mean?"
Liu Guanfeng was at a loss for how to speak to the little boy in front of him. "Younger Brother, would you like to come with me? I will give you lots of delicious food."
"What about my grandfather? Is he coming with us too?" the little beggar asked innocently.
"Your grandfather can't come for now. He asked me to take you with me. He said he has some things to do and wants you to listen to me," Liu Guanfeng had no choice but to lie to the little beggar.
"Since grandfather said so, I will listen to you, brother. I will go with you. When can grandfather come to see me?" the little beggar continued to ask.
"I don't know either. Your grandfather said he would come to see you once he finishes his work," Liu Guanfeng replied as he turned around and called over two servants.
He whispered to them, "You two take care of the old master's affairs inside and bring back anything useful you can find." After saying this, he handed the servants three Silver Coins. "The rest is for you two to go drink. We are heading home now."
With that, Liu Guanfeng took the little beggar by the hand and led Bao Rui and the others home.
Upon returning home, he found his mother and father and explained the situation with the little beggar. His mother immediately embraced the little beggar and cried uncontrollably, while his father shook his head in sighing disapproval.
Liu Guanfeng said to his father, "Father, I would like to take the little beggar as my attendant. I wonder if you would allow it?"
His father nodded. "My Feng'er has grown up. It is good to have such compassion. I agree to your request. Take him down for a bath and then let him eat something."
After taking leave from his parents, Liu Guanfeng brought the little beggar into his courtyard, instructing the servants to clean out a room, prepare a basin of bathwater, and make some light dishes along with some lean meat porridge.
After giving the little beggar a bath, the meal was ready. The little guy's eyes lit up at the sight of the food because he hadn't eaten any of the meals that Liu Guanfeng had left behind earlier.
