The reaction to the plateau left Lin Xue feeling dizzy, wishing she could fly back to the plains immediately. However, the temptation of a promotion to Level 3 made her grit her teeth and endure.
Who would have thought that after reporting in, Lin Xue's job would be to repair the drainage pipes of Potala Palace? It was simply a heavenly benefit.
Supervisor Lama instructed her to be careful and then walked away. Lin Xue, excitedly rubbing her hands together, began to wander around and happened to see a man in sportswear standing on a high platform painting the wall.
The mural was vibrant and lifelike, captivating her attention, and she couldn't help but exclaim.
"Don't you think... there seems to be something hidden in this mural?"
Qi Feng was startled by Lin Xue's exclamation, causing him to drop the paintbrush. Looking down, he realized it was this new Chinese engineer. He had thought she was just a visiting tourist, not someone there to repair the drainage pipes, which made him feel quite embarrassed. Qi Feng suppressed his anger and reminded her in awkward Chinese not to speak loudly so as not to disturb others at work. His face darkened, brows furrowed, and he sternly scolded, "Be quiet! What are you shouting about? This is not a place for you to talk freely."
Lin Xue was also startled by Qi Feng's sudden reprimand. She paused for a moment before realizing that she had indeed been too reckless. She quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I was just so surprised that I didn't notice I might disturb you." As she spoke, she pointed at the mural on the wall with curiosity on her face. "This painting is truly exquisite; I didn't expect to see such superb artwork here."
Hearing Lin Xue's explanation, Qi Feng's tone softened a bit. He looked down at the paintbrush in his hand and showed a hint of helplessness as he said, "This is Thangka, a treasure of Tibetan culture. You probably haven't seen anything like it abroad?"
Feeling somewhat embarrassed by Qi Feng's words, Lin Xue lowered her head and replied softly, "I grew up in a big city and don't know much about traditional culture. However, I think these murals are very beautiful and full of artistic charm."
Upon hearing Lin Xue's words, Qi Feng developed a slight fondness for her. He put away the paintbrush, jumped down from the platform, and walked over to her side, gently asking, "Are you here to repair the drainage pipes?"
Lin Xue nodded and pointed to the badge on her chest as she said, "Yes, I'm the engineer responsible for repairing the drainage pipes. My name is Lin Xue."
"Lin Xue?" Qi Feng repeated Lin Xue's name, carefully observing the plain-dressed Chinese girl in front of him. She had a hint of shyness on her face, and her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"My name is Qi Feng," Qi Feng said lightly, "I am not Chinese."
Lin Xue was taken aback by Qi Feng's response and asked in surprise, "You're not Chinese? Then you..."
Qi Feng smiled slightly and replied, "I am American."
"American?" Lin Xue's face was filled with astonishment. She couldn't help but glance at Qi Feng a few more times, noticing that although he had European features, his gaze held the calmness of an Eastern person.
"Why are you here?" Lin Xue asked curiously. "What are you doing here?"
Upon hearing Lin Xue's question, a trace of sadness appeared on Qi Feng's face. He fell silent for a moment before quietly saying, "I came to search for my mother."
"Your mother?" Lin Xue furrowed her brows and asked in confusion, "Is she here?"
Qi Feng shook his head, his eyes filled with sorrow as he said, "She is missing. I have been looking for her whereabouts and heard that she once came here, so..."
