Liu Shuhan ultimately failed to reach Cheng Qiuyi's home within two minutes. The elevator doors closed mercilessly just a second before she squeezed in, leaving her no choice but to sprint up the stairs. Cheng Qiuyi lived on the eighteenth floor, and by the time Liu Shuhan finally arrived, she was exhausted, sweating profusely from her forehead down to her neck, feeling as if she could crawl on all fours to Cheng Qiuyi.
Cheng Qiuyi had opened the door early to wait for Liu Shuhan. She wore a long dress today, her long black hair cascading over her shoulders, resembling a fairy from a painting. However, she maintained a stern expression that made her seem unapproachable. Standing at the door, she only smiled when she saw Liu Shuhan panting at the stairwell.
After climbing eighteen flights of stairs, Liu Shuhan was seeing stars. Dragging her feet to Cheng Qiuyi's door, she leaned on her knees to catch her breath while tremblingly handing over a courier package with one hand. "B-beautiful... there's... your... courier..." The oxygen in her lungs felt nearly depleted; speaking those few words almost took her life.
Cheng Qiuyi casually placed the box on the shoe rack and looked down at Liu Shuhan's head. "Three minutes and forty-five seconds."
"Sister, it's not easy for ordinary citizens to make a living. Can you please not complain about me? I admit I was wrong!" Liu Shuhan managed to recover somewhat and clutched at the hem of Cheng Qiuyi's dress in a plea for mercy.
Liu Shuhan was already shorter than Cheng Qiuyi, and with the high threshold of Cheng Qiuyi's home, she could only look up at her with a pitiful expression.
Cheng Qiuyi also looked down at Liu Shuhan, but her attention was entirely drawn to Liu Shuhan's neckline. Today, Liu Shuhan wore a wide-neck t-shirt, and from Cheng Qiuyi's perspective, the view inside was tantalizingly visible. Cheng Qiuyi leaned forward subtly, wanting to see more but then frowned in displeasure. What if Liu Shuhan encountered someone with intentions similar to hers while delivering couriers all day?
"In the future, you are not allowed to wear such low-cut clothes during work hours."
"Ah?" Liu Shuhan followed Cheng Qiuyi's gaze and quickly pulled her collar up, smiling awkwardly as she said, "I didn't pay attention in my rush."
Realizing that the topic had shifted away from her initial concern, she added, "That's not the point! Qiu Yi, I was wrong this time; please don't complain about me! I admit I was wrong; I really was wrong..."
"What did you do wrong?"
"I shouldn't have let the customer go downstairs to pick up the courier when I knew they were home. I should have called ahead to communicate with the customer..."
Liu Shuhan listed several of her faults in quick succession and swallowed nervously afterward, waiting for Cheng Qiuyi's judgment. She had rushed up eighteen floors without catching her breath; now her face was pale and devoid of color.
Cheng Qiuyi sighed and grabbed her wrist to pull her inside. "Go wash your face first; your towel is hanging in the bathroom."
Liu Shuhan was momentarily stunned; what kind of routine was this? Wasn't she just angry?
Seeing that Liu Shuhan didn't respond, Cheng Qiuyi simply brought her into the bathroom and dampened a towel with warm water before personally wiping Liu Shuhan's face. It wasn't until the towel was brought close that Liu Shuhan snapped back to reality and turned her head away. "I'll do it myself."
Cheng Qiuyi glanced at her but only handed over the towel.
"Shu Han, every word I said last night was serious."
Liu Shuhan stopped wiping her face with the towel and continued her actions as if nothing had happened. "By the way, we didn't get to watch the movie last night. What a pity. I saw that ticket was ridiculously expensive; such a waste..."
Cheng Qiuyi pulled the towel off her face and looked into her eyes seriously. "Shu Han, how long do you plan to hide?"
Liu Shuhan panicked, her eyes darting around. "What hiding? Qiu Yi, what are you talking about?"
Cheng Qiuyi was too tired to argue and directly kissed her lips, which had finally regained some color.
Liu Shuhan's eyes widened as she stared at Cheng Qiuyi's suddenly enlarged face, her mind going blank.
Cheng Qiuyi was kissing her; it wasn't a dream, it was real. Cheng Qiuyi's lips were soft, like jelly. Liu Shuhan felt her heart racing and, driven by an impulse, she extended her tongue to lick Cheng Qiuyi's lips.
Cheng Qiuyi's pupils contracted as she entangled their lips together, preventing Liu Shuhan from escaping. She pressed Liu Shuhan against the mirror and explored deeper into her mouth.
"Mm—" Liu Shuhan suddenly grabbed Cheng Qiuyi's shoulders and pushed her away with all her might. Cheng Qiuyi, displeased, released Liu Shuhan and asked, "What's wrong?"
Liu Shuhan sat down on the bathroom tiles, gripping the porcelain sink with both hands, her features twisted in pain.
Cheng Qiuyi panicked and squatted down to support Liu Shuhan. "Shu Han? What's wrong?"
Liu Shuhan struggled to say, "My leg... my leg is cramping..."
Cheng Qiuyi lifted Liu Shuhan's calf to stretch and massage it.
"Ah!" Liu Shuhan screamed in pain. "Cheng Qiuyi, be gentle! You're killing me!" She was terrified of pain; even a small cut felt like a life-threatening injury. With Cheng Qiuyi's rough handling, Liu Shuhan felt like she was losing half her life.
Cheng Qiuyi found the painful spot on Liu Shuhan's leg and not only didn't let go but also pressed down hard on it. "You stood all day yesterday and still insisted on going to work today; you deserve this pain."
"You still dare to say that! It's all your fault... Ah! Be gentler!"
After a while of massaging, the cramping in Liu Shuhan's calf eased significantly, and her cries quieted down. Cheng Qiuyi looked up at her and asked, "Does it still hurt?" Liu Shuhan shook her head. Cheng Qiuyi helped her stand up, and they limped over to the sofa to sit down.
The two sat side by side in silence for a long time until Cheng Qiuyi took the initiative to break the silence. "Shu Han, are you avoiding me because you really don't like me and don't want to accept me? Just say it, and I'll leave immediately without bothering you again."
"Not at all!" Liu Shuhan blurted out, "I... I just... how could you... don't you like men?"
"Who told you that?"
"Do I need someone to tell me? You've had several boyfriends before, how could you possibly..."
"How could I possibly like women?" Cheng Qiuyi smiled bitterly, "I thought it was impossible too."
"Shu Han, I thought I could never fall for you. You're so timid, slow-witted, like a child. How could I ever be attracted to you? But you gradually seeped into my life, and by the time I realized it, it was already too late."
"I tried to forget you. I didn't contact you for nine years. I avoided you, stayed far away, didn't think about you or look at you... It was useless, Shu Han. I want to hold you, kiss you, and be with you forever. Shu Han, I love you."
Cheng Qiuyi said she loved her.
Liu Shuhan pinched her thigh hard, trembling from the pain, confirming that this wasn't a dream.
It wasn't a dream, it wasn't an illusion; Cheng Qiuyi said she loved her.
Liu Shuhan stared blankly at Cheng Qiuyi, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
"Don't cry... Shu Han, please don't cry. If you hate me, I'll leave. Just stop crying..." Cheng Qiuyi fumbled to wipe Liu Shuhan's tears.
Liu Shuhan touched her face, realizing it was wet with tears. She then hugged Cheng Qiuyi's waist tightly, burying her head in her embrace and sobbing loudly, "Cheng Qiuyi, you jerk! I've waited so many years; why didn't you say it sooner? You jerk!"
"Yes, yes, it's all my fault... I'm the jerk; I'm not human..." Cheng Qiuyi helplessly accepted Liu Shuhan's comfort as Liu Shuhan leaned over and accidentally pulled on her long hair, making Cheng Qiuyi gasp in pain.
Liu Shuhan cried endlessly; her eyes were like a faucet that wouldn't turn off. Soon enough, Cheng Qiuyi felt her front soaked through and sticking to her skin. She tapped Liu Shuhan's head lightly and said, "Alright now, that's enough." This kind of crying isn't good; what if you dehydrated?
Liu Shuhan sat up with red-rimmed eyes, sniffling continuously as her shoulders shook and her nose turned red. Cheng Qiuyi patted her back to help calm her down until Liu Shuhan slowly settled.
After crying for a long time, Liu Shuhan experienced ringing in her ears; her mind was buzzing. She didn't speak but hugged the pillow with a deep frown on her face. Cheng Qiuyi found her dazed expression somewhat amusing. "What are you thinking about?"
Liu Shuhan turned her face and asked reluctantly, "Cheng Qiuyi, why were you so skilled at that just now?"
As soon as the words left her mouth, she regretted it. "Liu Shuhan, are you stupid? Why ask such a dull question at this moment?"
Cheng Qiuyi chuckled, thinking that this girl’s reflexes could probably circle the Earth several times. "Shu Han, how do you know whether I’m skilled or not?"
Seeing Liu Shuhan's pitiful expression, Cheng Qiuyi couldn't bear to tease her anymore. She wrapped her arms around Liu Shuhan's neck and leaned against her, burying her head in the crook of Liu Shuhan's neck with a satisfied sigh. "Shu Han, do you believe me when I say this is my first kiss with someone?"
Liu Shuhan wanted to say she believed it, but what came out was, "What's so great about a first time? Everyone has their first time!"
Cheng Qiuyi burst into laughter. "Shu Han, I'm really happy right now. Honestly, I've never been this happy in over twenty years."
Liu Shuhan gently stroked Cheng Qiuyi's hair, lowering her eyes with a smile at the corners of her mouth. "Qiu Yi."
"Yes?"
"Thank you for liking me."
Liu Shuhan felt as if she had been walking down a dark road for over ten years without seeing the way ahead. After so many years, that road suddenly lit up; sunlight poured down directly into her heart, and beside her was the person she loved most. Everything became clear.
Cheng Qiuyi said nothing, smiling with her eyes closed. With her ear pressed against Liu Shuhan's chest, she could clearly hear the rapid beating of her heart. Liu Shuhan was a fool, but it was this very fool who supported her through those nearly collapsing days. This fool’s gaze was so straightforward that the whole world knew she liked Cheng Qiuyi; only she thought she was hiding it well.
"Shu Han, thank you for your persistence."
