In Nanjing City, within a building that showcases a blend of Eastern and Western styles, a group of individuals dressed in black stood solemnly in a lavishly decorated room. They were not the kind of people one would consider good.
The leader among them was slightly over five feet tall, with a pale complexion and eyes that resembled sapphires, clearly indicating his Western heritage. However, his pallor was not solely due to his Caucasian blood; two-centimeter-long canine teeth protruded from the corners of his mouth, exposed for all to see. His appearance resembled that of a vampire from an American movie in the 1980s.
This was not some sort of cosplay.
Opposite him knelt a middle-aged man in his fifties, who was robust but lacked his usual spirited demeanor. As the owner of the building, he was currently half-kneeling on the ground, one hand supporting himself while blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. His eyes were filled with rage, and his lips twitched occasionally, signaling the intensity of his anger.
Outnumbered and facing skilled opponents, he knew he stood no chance alone. However, he still had one weapon left to use. Although it would bring trouble, he could no longer afford to hesitate.
Noticing the man's movement toward his lower back, the vampire-like figure seized the girl he was holding tightly.
“If you don’t want her to die, you’d better behave. My patience is limited,” he warned.
Old Ma's right hand had already reached for the gun hidden at his lower back; he could draw it at any moment if he wished. He was confident that he could take down at least two of them. Once those two were gone, the others would not pose a threat.
Yet, as he looked at the pitiful woman, his grip on the gun faltered, and he found himself unable to draw it out, his expression conflicted.
“Mingguang, no!” Tang Xiaowei, who was being choked, looked at Old Ma with a pained yet determined expression.
Old Ma was conflicted; as soon as he drew his gun, the situation could turn around.
But with Xiao Wei in the opponent's hands, if he fired, the other side might kill Xiao Wei at the same time.
However, if he didn't shoot, he would be completely passive, like fish on a chopping board, at the mercy of others.
“You better think this through. She’s in my hands. If you dare to make a move, I can snap her neck in an instant.”
With a slight increase in pressure, the Vampire Leader revealed a sinister smile.
Damn it!
Old Ma clenched his teeth, wishing he could tear the opponent apart, but he couldn't take the risk; if he struck and failed to kill, Xiao Wei would be in danger.
Across from him, Tang Xiaowei, treated as a hostage, showed signs of suffering.
It wasn't just the pain of being captured; she felt heartache for the man who was injured because of her.
If it weren't for me, Mingguang wouldn't be in such a passive position.
“Mingguang, don’t worry about me! You need to get out of here!”
Tang Xiaowei struggled fiercely, tears in her eyes as she urged Old Ma to leave quickly.
But the more she insisted, the harder it became to let go.
Frustrated by Xiao Wei's struggles, the vampire bared his terrifying fangs and lunged at Xiao Wei's pale neck.
"You dare!" Old Ma instantly stood up and aimed his gun at the Vampire Leader, but he did not pull the trigger immediately.
Tang Xiaowei, who had been bitten, turned pale and then collapsed weakly.
Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth, the Vampire Leader revealed an expression of enjoyment.
"Such young blood, truly delicious."
"Bastard!"
Old Ma's lips twitched, his finger on the trigger ready to fire, but he hesitated at the Vampire Leader's next words.
"Do you think I only drank her blood, Auntie?"
The words came out quickly because he was also afraid that Old Ma would shoot him directly.
Old Ma's expression darkened, and a very bad thought crossed his mind.
Seeing Old Ma pause, the leader let out another sinister laugh.
"I injected her with my blood; you should know what that means."
Sure enough...
Old Ma lowered his head slightly, his anger reaching a critical point as he thumbed the gun's mechanism.
He certainly understood what that meant. Vampires were essentially a type of Zombie, passed down from Progenitor Cain to this day.
They had two methods of reproduction: one was through the union of vampires.
But if that's the case, there arises a question: if there was only Cain as the first vampire, where did his descendants come from?
Another method is to inject the vampire's venom, allowing the bitten person to become infected and turn into a bloodsucking monster.
"You'd better not mess around. Do you think I simply infected her? Don't be foolish. I planted a Heartseed in her; as long as I die, she will die too."
Seeing Old Ma pause for a moment, Vampire Leader's expression clearly became more confident.
"Don't worry. Because of the existence of the Heartseed, if she dies, I will die too, so I will do my best to protect her."
He took a step forward and opened his arms. "Come on, join us and become part of our family!"
Old Ma lowered his head, his eyes hidden in the shadows of the light.
"It seems I have no choice."
"Hmph! Of course you do. You can choose to die or survive and become one of us."
"If Xiao Wei has been implanted with a Heartseed, then I really have no way out."
"Then you still don't..."
"But do you really think I'm a fool?"
Old Ma suddenly raised his head, revealing a pair of calm and determined eyes.
Not good!
Vampire Leader wanted to dodge but felt a tightness in his abdomen; the dark muzzle was already pressed against him.
Although vampires are much stronger than ordinary people, they are not immortal and cannot withstand the onslaught of bullets; they certainly have their fears.
A few beads of cold sweat formed on his forehead as the leader struggled to maintain a smile, forcing himself to appear calm.
"You... you won't..."
Bang!
The sound of a gunshot cut off the rest of his words.
"You..."
He clutched Old Ma's clothing tightly, holding on with disbelief etched on his face. He couldn't understand why Old Ma, who cared so much for Tang Xiaowei, would dare to pull the trigger after he mentioned planting a Heartseed in Xiao Wei.
Did he not care about that woman's life?
"I forgot to tell you, Heartseed comes from China. It was cultivated by an Emotional Intelligence Mage five hundred years ago for himself and his wife, meant to witness their love.
It serves as a testament to the promise of not seeking to live on the same day, month, and year, but only to die on the same day, month, and year.
However, it has an absolute limitation: it must be planted by two people who truly love each other. You clearly do not meet this standard. Therefore, even if you plant a Heartseed, it will have no effect on Xiao Wei."
"Moreover, Xiao Wei being infected by you is already an irreversible situation. Rather than making her your descendant, wouldn't it be better to use your blood to turn her into a fifth generation like you?" (To be continued.)
