“Cellar!”
Ye Mingshang was startled and quickly stopped the classmate who was about to leave. “Cellar? Are you saying there’s a Cellar here?!”
The young man was also taken aback by Ye Mingshang's sudden reaction. “Hey! Why are you so jumpy? It’s quite alarming!”
“Just tell me!” Ye Mingshang urged.
“It’s over there.” The young man pointed hurriedly.
Before he finished speaking, Ye Mingshang dashed out, disappearing in the blink of an eye. The young man looked in the direction he vanished and scratched his head, muttering, “Is he crazy?!”
With no time to care about what others thought, Ye Mingshang rushed over. His instincts told him that the so-called Cellar must have something wrong with it because amidst the musty smell, he also detected a foul odor. Although they smelled somewhat similar, his long experience in this line of work made him very familiar with the scent of corpses.
The yard wasn’t very large, and after just a few steps, he arrived at the so-called Cellar. It was covered with a layer of wooden planks, and in the darkness, it was hard to see anything at first glance.
Clearing away the surrounding dirt, Ye Mingshang slowly lifted the wooden planks. A gust of cold wind blew out, accompanied by the musty and rotten smell.
“This is it!”
Upon smelling that odor, Ye Mingshang's spirit jolted. However, he didn’t rush down immediately; instead, he waited for the Yin Qi inside to dissipate a bit. Only after a faint breeze began to blow out did he take action and cast a few Fire Illumination Spells to light up the area.
“Urgent Order!”
With a spell, several talismans ignited with a whoosh, transforming into fireballs the size of fists. They spun around before floating into the Cellar, serving as torches.
Once the fireballs entered, Ye Mingshang jumped in as well. The ladder leading down had long rotted from lack of maintenance. Looking around, this space of about twenty to thirty square meters didn’t seem special; however, many patches of Dog Urine Moss (a type of useful moss) grew in the corners, yet not a single insect was present.
In such a small area, he quickly scanned everything and indeed found nothing unusual. Ye Mingshang couldn’t help but furrow his brow.
Looking around the room, there was nothing but Dog Urine Moss. "What is going on?" As he pondered this in confusion, he suddenly noticed one of the fireballs shaking slightly.
"Hmm?"
Ye Mingshang looked over; normally, a Fire Ball would not shake, not even with a gentle breeze, unless it was... an ominous wind!
Ye Mingshang hurried to the wall and knocked on it. "It's hollow!"
So that's why! No wonder he couldn't find anything; there was something hidden here. He thought this Cellar was too small for the ominous wind to reach so far; it turns out there was more to it.
Ye Mingshang felt a surge of joy and quickly placed several Fire Bell Spells at various points on the wall, forming hand seals to activate their explosive properties.
"Urgent Order! Break!"
"Boom!"
With a loud shout, the talismans exploded, and as flames flickered, debris flew everywhere. Before he could see what was inside, a strong ominous wind followed, blowing away the smoke and extinguishing the fireballs.
The ominous wind blew for a full half-minute before it finally stopped. Ye Mingshang slowly stood up from the ground, covering his mouth and nose as he caught his breath, thinking to himself, "I was careless; I should have realized how heavy the Yin Qi inside was. I almost got caught off guard and fell into trouble. Luckily, my physique is stronger now; otherwise, just this amount of Yin Qi could have knocked me out."
With the fireballs extinguished, everything around him was pitch black, and he couldn't see anything. Just as Ye Mingshang was about to throw a couple more talismans for light, he suddenly heard a low growl accompanied by the sound of stones being stepped on. He quickly bent down, and just as he did so, a gust of ominous wind brushed past his back.
"What is that?!" Ye Mingshang shouted and immediately threw out several Fire Talismans. "Urgent Order!"
As the flames rose, a grotesque figure appeared before him, its clothes severely decayed beyond recognition. Its flesh was rotting away, revealing white maggots crawling in and out.
"Ugh!"
The low growl sounded like a beast's warning; the voice came directly from its corroded throat. Its mouth remained still while two long fangs protruded from where its canine teeth should have been. Thick saliva dripped down, hitting the ground and producing white smoke—highly toxic!
Ye Mingshang frowned as he observed this corpse. From it, he sensed an overwhelming amount of Yin Qi along with an intense feeling of disgust.
"It turns out to be a corpse, and it looks like it has been sealed here for many years. I wonder who did this," Ye Mingshang thought, puzzled. The condition of the corpse clearly indicated that it had been kept here, as a Yizhuang, where a Yin Yang Master used to reside. He couldn't possibly be unaware of the presence of this corpse. Therefore, it could only mean that he was either coerced into keeping this corpse or he was the one who kept it himself. Strangely enough, this corpse had been here for quite some time; after so many years, a mortal should have long since perished. The weeds on the grave must have grown abundantly by now. If it was unnecessary, why keep it?
However, the corpse would not give him much time to think. With a low growl, it lunged forward, arms flailing and moving quickly. Its speed was impressive, but compared to Ye Mingshang, it was still lacking. He easily dodged to the side and even managed to stick a talisman onto it.
"Urgent Order! Break!"
"Boom!"
Flames flickered as the corpse let out a painful howl and stumbled to the ground. Just as Ye Mingshang prepared to take advantage of this opportunity to eliminate the threat, he suddenly felt a sense of danger and quickly rolled aside. A figure brushed past him, tearing his clothes and leaving several deep wounds on his back.
"Damn it! There's another one!"
Ye Mingshang cursed as he quickly got back on his feet. His back throbbed with pain as he assessed the small corpse in front of him, frowning slightly.
"Could it be a joint burial?"
The creation of corpses is different from that of Zombies; Zombies require a dry and shady place and must undergo special methods to ensure the body does not decay, allowing it to naturally develop new thoughts. Afterward, they are exhumed to breathe fresh air and bask in the moonlight for simple production.
In contrast, corpses require a place rich in Yin Qi but must also be moist and spacious; they cannot be directly buried. The body will rot normally, and the more decayed it is, the stronger its power becomes.
