"Oh? How do we compare?" Luo Chenghui asked curiously.
"By eating and drinking."
"Huh?"
"Let's see who can eat more rice and drink more alcohol. If you can beat me, I'll forgive you."
"Hehe, sounds interesting. Alright! I'll compete with you!"
Old Ma and Unprincipled exchanged glances, both looking helpless and confused. What was going on? Weren't they just about to fight a moment ago? Why had it suddenly turned into an eating contest? This was quite the twist!
Since they had decided, they had to follow through. They arranged for two servings of the same dishes and brought out some fine Moutai. Instead of staying in the private room, they moved outside so everyone could watch, adding to the excitement.
A long table was set up with one person on each side, each with an array of delicious dishes and fragrant wine in front of them. The portions and types were identical, leaving no room for cheating.
"What are they doing?"
"I don't know."
"Are those two staring at each other ready to fight?"
"Why would they set up food if they were going to fight? Idiot."
"An eating contest?"
"Really? That sounds fun; I want to join!"
Seeing everyone looking over, Old Ma took a microphone from a staff member, tested the sound, and then spoke loudly: "Everyone, today our two friends have some misunderstandings. However, fighting would hurt their relationship, so they've chosen to resolve their dispute through an eating contest."
Upon hearing this, everyone became interested; such events were rare and fresh. They began whispering among themselves.
"Everyone quiet down, quiet down." Once the crowd settled, Old Ma cleared his throat. "Ahem! The rules are simple: we'll see who can eat faster and more. Both sides have the same dishes and drinks in front of them. The winner is whoever finishes first. If neither finishes, we'll see who ate more. Alright, without further ado, let the competition begin!"
With a command, both sides, already prepared, simultaneously grabbed the nearest large piece of beef and started to gnaw on it. This beef came from the wild Yak of Inner Mongolia, which is leaner and tougher. The chef was quite skilled, preparing the meat to be lean yet tender, making it very enjoyable to eat.
Two minutes later, both individuals almost simultaneously set down their piece of beef weighing over a pound. Without hesitation, they grabbed a plate of Sea Cucumber and began eating it like chicken legs, their ferocity resembling that of hungry wolves, causing onlookers to wince at the sight. This was expensive food, and consuming it so carelessly felt like a waste. The waiter watched in shock while the chef was overjoyed; for a chef, especially one who loves his work, having patrons enjoy his dishes is the greatest joy. Seeing the two eat so vigorously made his double chin seem to triple.
Both individuals ate quickly, as if they hadn't eaten in over ten days. While eating, they glared at each other fiercely, as if they were devouring each other's flesh. After another two minutes, the Sea Cucumber was finished as well, with neither gaining an advantage over the other. Without much conversation, they directly grabbed a bottle of Moutai and tilted their heads back to drink.
Gulugulu! A bottle of 53-degree liquor went down like water, making the chef swallow hard. Not only was he shocked by their drinking capacity but also pained to see such fine liquor being wasted so carelessly.
After consuming two substantial meat dishes and a bottle of good liquor, Luo Chenghui was starting to lag behind. He stood there for a moment to catch his breath while Ye Mingshang shot him a provocative glance and grabbed a steamed fish to gnaw on. Since it had been specially processed, there were no bones to worry about.
By the time Ye Mingshang had eaten half the fish, Luo Chenghui finally resumed eating but at a slower pace, allowing Ye Mingshang to pull ahead significantly. The fish was tender and easy to eat; before long, only the fish head remained. Without pausing for breath after discarding the head, Ye Mingshang reached for the next dish.
As the two devoured their food, the dishes on the table disappeared at an astonishing rate until only a large bone remained. Ye Mingshang paused briefly before cleaning it off in just a few bites. Then, amidst everyone's astonished gazes, he wiped his mouth leisurely and picked up the bottle of Moutai as if it were water.
On the other hand, Luo Chenghui struggled more towards the end and began eating slowly. By the time Ye Mingshang finished eating and leisurely drank nearly all of his bottle of liquor, Luo Chenghui had just finished gnawing on the bone.
"Hey! Giant, don't bother; you've definitely lost," Joan said to Luo Chenghui out of nowhere.
"Not necessarily," Luo Chenghui mumbled through clenched teeth as he continued drinking.
In the end, Ye Mingshang took his time drinking and finished half a minute faster than Luo Chenghui after clearing ten plates of food and three bottles of liquor. This was truly terrifying; ten plates of food varied in portion but totaled around eight pounds or so—not to mention three bottles of 53-degree liquor. They had completed this in less than fifty minutes total; if not for Ye Mingshang taking his time waiting, they could have finished seven or eight minutes faster.
The competition had been live-streamed by Joan on his phone, and many of his loyal fans—especially those who had seen Ye Mingshang in action—were left in shock. They marveled at how terrifying these two were; they seemed more like wild beasts than humans—especially Ye Mingshang—who managed to eat so much without feeling uncomfortable or even showing any signs of fullness.
"The competition is over; Ye Mingshang wins by half a minute."
"Good!"
With Old Ma's announcement, Ye Mingshang's friends cheered for him.
"Wait a minute; the competition isn't over yet," Luo Chenghui shouted.
"Hey! You've finished all your food; you were half a minute slower than Master. What’s there to dispute? Master let you have this," Joan mocked from the side.
Luo Chenghui didn't say a word, reaching for the remaining bones, and after taking a breath, he said, "Crunch! Crunch!"
Seeing this brutal scene, everyone looked as if they had seen a ghost. Many of the girls covered their mouths with their small hands, while the boys stared wide-eyed. Joan's live stream went wild.
"My goodness! What kind of teeth is that? It's terrifying!"
"Good teeth and a good appetite mean a strong body that can eat anything."
"Wow, he even ate the bones! Buddy is really going all out to win."
"Humanoid ferocious beast!"
...
Ignoring the comments from others, Luo Chenghui continued to devour the bones, the crunching sounds making people's hearts tremble. Even Ye Mingshang looked at him with a serious expression; his perception was sharper than most, and he could tell that Luo Chenghui's teeth were struggling to hold up.
"Luo Zi, stop eating," Unprincipled said worriedly, pulling at the engrossed Luo Chenghui, but was shaken off by him.
Silence. An eerie silence. Even Joan, who had been mocking him, wore a serious expression. For a full five minutes, no one spoke. When the bones were finally finished after five minutes, Luo Chenghui had blood at the corners of his mouth. Although his teeth were intact, his gums were likely injured, and he probably wouldn't be able to eat for days.
With a disheveled appearance, Luo Chenghui grinned, revealing blood-stained teeth: "I may be slower than you, but I ate more."
"You won," Ye Mingshang sighed. The purpose of this competition was to vent some frustration; there was no need to be too harsh. Since the other party was already in such a state and he had nothing to lose, it was best to let it go.
Luo Chenghui chuckled: "So we’re friends now?"
"Next," Ye Mingshang tossed something over.
Luo Chenghui caught it and opened it to find a small bottle of thick liquid.
"Swish this around in your mouth; otherwise, your mouth will be uncomfortable for a few days," Ye Mingshang said calmly.
With that, it seemed like things were coming to an end. This feud could be considered resolved, allowing them to put past grievances behind them. One couldn't help but admire how a young boss worth billions was willing to humble himself and work so hard.
However, speaking of it, Ye Mingshang's identity is much more intimidating than his. Luo Chenghui is wealthy, but Ye Mingshang holds power. Setting aside his own abilities, his father is Demon King Minghe, one of the Four Great Holy Kings, with tens of thousands of demon soldiers under his command—something that a mere wealthy merchant cannot compare to. Of course, very few people are aware of this aspect of his identity. At least Old Ma, who knows him best, is unaware.
After rinsing his mouth, he unhesitatingly held the unknown liquid in his mouth. That truly takes some guts; what if it were poisonous or something harmful? Fortunately, he guessed right.
The liquid was initially very cool upon entry but soon became extremely hot, like holding a piece of burning coal that scorched his gums and mouth, nearly making him spit it out. This process lasted for half a minute before the heat transformed into a gentle warmth and then became cool again. Finally, after rinsing again, his teeth no longer hurt, and his mouth felt normal as if nothing had happened.
He secretly marveled at how miraculous the medicine was. Luo Chenghui walked up to Ye Mingshang and extended his right hand. "Let's get to know each other again; my name is Luo Chenghui."
Looking at the tall man with a carefree smile, Ye Mingshang reluctantly reached out and slapped his hand. "I am Ye Mingshang."
"Alright, from now on we are all friends; any misunderstandings are resolved," Old Ma hurriedly stepped in to mediate.
"Yes, that's right. From now on we are friends; Amitabha, ha ha!" The chubby man also chimed in with a laugh.
Ye Mingshang watched as their gazes finally settled on Luo Chenghui's face, staring intently into his eyes. "Remember, this opportunity only comes once. If you dare to act like this again in the future, I will kill you."
"Ha ha, I definitely won't. From now on we are friends; I won't harm my friends," Luo Chenghui replied nonchalantly with a smile.
"Amitabha... no, Amitabha is good, very good."
The others looked at Unprincipled with disdain; he clearly wasn't a Taoist yet kept saying Amitabha repeatedly and often got it wrong, sometimes mistakenly saying Amitabha instead. This left both Buddhism and Taoism in an awkward position.
