Do not forget the lessons of the past, or the outcome will inevitably be painful.
The Ajan Master may be proud, but in the face of death's threat, any pride is useless. One must recognize the times to survive and thrive. Fortunately, like Ajan Dong, he has a decent command of Chinese, so communication is not particularly difficult. Without much persuasion, the Ajan Master understood this principle.
Old Ghost's request was to lift the Voodoo curse. The Ajan Master informed me that he used blood bones and corpse manipulation. It was quite malicious; once it entered the body, removing it would be very troublesome. Currently, he did not have enough items to lift the curse and could only delay its onset. I gasped and asked how this could happen.
The Ajan Master was helpless; the skeleton kept in the coffin belonged to a Mountain Spirit. The Mountain Spirit is a ghostly entity from Thailand, sometimes described as an ancient type of dwarf with immense power. If refined, it could rival Yueye. However, like the Wealth-Inviting Spirit Child Ghost, it is difficult to control; one misstep could even cost the Ajan Master his life. Therefore, ordinary people would not engage with such things.
Moreover, to enhance the effect, the Ajan Master had just fed the skeleton with his own blood. The Mountain Spirit was already fierce; now that it had consumed blood, it became even more terrifying. Otherwise, Old Ghost could have forcibly pulled it down instead of seeking help from the Ajan Master. But now, even the Ajan Master had no way out. He needed to gather the necessary items to truly lift the curse.
Seeing his sincere attitude, I knew that this Ajan Master would not lie to me without reason. Since he said so, it must be true. With no other option, I relayed the Ajan Master's opinion to Old Ghost. In fact, she had been listening throughout our exchange; now that she confirmed the result, her gaze turned even colder.
I feared that if she became unhappy, she might kill us all, so I quickly said, "As long as we delay the curse's onset, your physical body will not be harmed further. During this time, we will do our best to find a solution. Once you leave here, what happens to your body will no longer matter; all you need is assurance of her safety here, right?"
This reasoning seemed sound; Zheng Xuejie slightly nodded and coldly said, "If that's the case, then it must be done this way. I hope you won't betray my trust again!"
I cursed inwardly at her hypocrisy; clearly, she was using us to escape while pretending to talk about trust.
Controlling the Mountain Spirit's skeleton was not easy, but fortunately, we had a ready-made "tool."
A fresh Sorcerer corpse!
Under my watchful eye, the Ajan Master picked up the Demon-Slaying Blade from the ground and squatted beside the deceased Ajan Master while quietly chanting scriptures. After a while, he suddenly struck with his knife and severed the corpse's head. His movements were swift as he continuously trimmed away excess flesh and blood. The half-coagulated blood flowed everywhere as he extracted both eyes from the head and cut off a portion of flesh and bone to crush into powder with a hammer he had previously found.
He completely smashed his already broken Small Coffin and mixed it with the blood and flesh powder. Then he began chanting scriptures while holding the bloody head.
The Ajan Master had previously mentioned that he would use this head to create a basic Yueye to enhance his own power; otherwise, it would be unlikely for him to deal with that Mountain Spirit's skeleton. While he empowered the head, we three did not remain idle either; we opened the box brought by the Ajan Master and took out sanitary napkins to start posting them around.
Fortunately, when Second Uncle brought Ajan Master down, nothing else went wrong. If the box contained not Sanitary Napkins but a pile of useless newspapers, we would truly be at a loss for words. The Old Ghost attached to Zheng Xuejie clearly stated that it would no longer give us a chance to contact the outside world. To survive, we needed to find a way out; otherwise, death was our only option.
Holding the blood-stained Sanitary Napkins and sticking them to the wall, I asked Ma Rulong if this method was reliable. Ma Rulong said we wouldn't know until we tried. He subtly indicated that now that the compass was back in our hands, we had some confidence. If it really didn't work, we would have to cooperate with Ajan Master and confront that Old Ghost.
I was startled; just moments ago, both Ajan Masters had attacked simultaneously and still couldn't deal with this Old Ghost. After all, besides it, there were many ordinary Yin Spirits underground. Just dealing with those Yin Spirits was already quite challenging. Although the Jiao She Ling in the compass was strong, it likely paled in comparison to the Old Ghost.
Ma Rulong was merely saying this; as he thought, if there really was no way out, fighting desperately would be our only retreat.
While sticking the Sanitary Napkins, Zheng Xuejie kept watching us from the side, as if monitoring our every move. The Black-Clad Achan needed time to prepare Yueye, even for the most basic version. During this time, Zheng Xuejie's expression was quite terrifying. She occasionally glanced at the Black-Clad Achan with evident impatience.
I had no doubt that if Ajan Masters didn't help suppress the corpse soon, this Old Ghost would surely go on a killing spree!
For the sake of my life, I could only pray that Ajan was telling the truth and had enough power to suppress the Mountain Spirit's remains. To distract Zheng Xuejie, I had no choice but to force myself to chat with her.
Honestly, I was very interested in the Old Ghost attached to Zheng Xuejie; its origins were mysterious and it possessed a high level of intelligence, completely different from any spirit I had encountered before.
However, when I inquired about its origins, the Old Ghost remained silent, cold as ice. After asking a few questions and getting nowhere, I decided not to press further. Qin Senior Sister was timid and kept tugging at my arm during my questioning, signaling me not to say more. She had already grasped the situation and was very worried about Zheng Xuejie's safety.
I was worried too, but only Ajan Master could handle the exorcism; no matter how anxious I felt, there was nothing I could do.
Second Uncle sent a large number of Sanitary Napkins, but relative to the entire underground space, it still wasn't enough. We could only stick them haphazardly; by the time we finished applying them all, everything around us was covered in white. The strange metallic smell filled the air, making it feel like my nose might break from it.
After finishing up, I asked Ma Rulong what we should do next. He held the compass and kept moving around, claiming he was searching for direction. I found it absurd; if he didn’t understand formations, how could he find any direction? But seeing his serious demeanor made me hesitate to say anything discouraging.
At that moment, Ajan Master, who had been chanting over the headpiece, stood up. He walked in front of Zheng Xuejie and paused for a few seconds before taking a deep breath and smearing the blood powder he had just pounded around the blood-red bones. Then he raised the headpiece high and loudly recited an Invocation Spell.
The Mountain Spirit's remains immediately emitted an unpleasant creaking sound. Zheng Xuejie frowned slightly as black thorns continued to emerge from within the bones.
Ajan Master might also be feeling a bit nervous, as this is a matter of life and death. If anything goes wrong, everyone will die! While chanting the incantation, he sprinkled the powder made from the coffin onto the blood and bones. After a while, the black thorns on Zheng Xuejie's neck began to slowly withdraw.
Drops of blood flowed from the wound, quickly staining her clothes red. Qin Senior Sister looked on with great concern, covering her mouth in fear of crying out. I knew her mental resilience couldn't compare to ours, so I forcibly turned her head away. In the darkness, Qin Senior Sister let out faint sobs. I sighed, wrapped my arm around her shoulders, and softly reassured her that everything would be fine.
Qin Senior Sister felt very guilty; she believed that if she hadn't taken it upon herself to bring Zheng Xuejie here, none of this would have happened. I too had experienced this tendency to shoulder responsibility. Second Uncle had once scolded me for it, saying that just because someone wanted to do something doesn't mean they have to follow your advice. If they do it, it's their own decision and has nothing to do with you.
While that statement is true, I am not heartless; how can one truly be free of pressure?
Soon, all the black thorns were withdrawn, but the blood and bones still encircled Zheng Xuejie's neck. The head in Ajan's hands began to ooze blood as well. Upon seeing this situation, Ajan Master's expression changed slightly. He loudly recited several verses and then put away the head, saying, "This is all we can do for now; if we continue, Mountain Spirit will retaliate, and it will become even more troublesome."
Only he knows the truth of this statement; I don't know, and neither does Old Ghost. Fortunately, although the remains of Mountain Spirit exist, without the black thorns, it can no longer inflict harm on Zheng Xuejie's body. As for just being constricted, Old Ghost didn't seem too concerned.
Just as we finished up, Ma Rulong, who had been wandering around with a compass, suddenly shouted, "I found it!"
I turned around sharply to see him standing in front of a wall, examining it closely. I rushed over and asked, "Did you find the entrance?"
"I mean I found one of the doors," Ma Rulong replied. "That door could be hidden in any one of them; if we're lucky, maybe the first door is it. If we're unlucky, we'll have to find all Eight Gates."
I let out a disappointed sound and then looked at where he was examining. There were several burial items on the wall that seemed ordinary; it didn't look like there was a door there at all. Ma Rulong pointed ahead and said, "The strange door isn't a real door but rather a position revealed by the formation. Most places here have been marked by us; I was just walking around with the compass to see if there were any peculiar spots. It turns out that only here does the compass needle remain stable."
This was indeed something worth noting; anyone with a bit of common sense knows that energy creates magnetic fields, which can affect metal.
