Two months later, Li Xiaolu arrived in Hong Kong.
As she just stepped out of the airport, Zhang Lin rushed over and hugged her.
"Darling, I really missed you!"
Li Xiaolu couldn't help but laugh, "If you missed me, why didn't you come to find me?"
Zhang Lin chuckled, "I was busy with work, you know that."
Li Xiaolu shook her head with a smile, "I was just joking; you took it seriously."
Zhang Lin asked, "How have you been?"
Li Xiaolu replied, "Not bad, I've adapted."
Zhang Lin inquired, "What did your parents say?"
Li Xiaolu said, "I didn't tell them."
Zhang Lin was taken aback, "You didn't tell them?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head, "I didn't mention it."
Zhang Lin sighed, "You really should have told them."
Li Xiaolu explained, "I didn't want them to worry."
Zhang Lin thought for a moment and said, "Then do you want to talk to them about it?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head, "Forget it; I'll tell them later."
Zhang Lin nodded, "Alright then."
That evening, Li Xiaolu arranged a blind date.
Back when she was in her home country, she had asked friends to introduce potential partners to her.
Now that she had completely moved on from Jijun, she wanted to start a new life.
This blind date was set up by her friend.
The other party was a lawyer working in Hong Kong.
His name was Li He; he was twenty-eight years old and graduated from the Department of Law at The University of Hong Kong. He currently worked at the largest law firm in Hong Kong.
Li He looked quite decent, wearing glasses and appearing very refined.
However, Li Xiaolu wasn't particularly interested in him.
She came to Hong Kong mainly to relax.
The blind date took place at a café in Central District.
Li He was very gentlemanly and arrived early.
Li Xiaolu walked over and smiled, "Hello."
Li He smiled and nodded, "Hello."
Li Xiaolu sat down.
Li He asked, "Would you like something to drink?"
Li Xiaolu replied, "A latte, please."
Li He nodded and called the waiter to place the order.
While waiting for the coffee, Li He asked, "I heard you studied in the United States?"
Li Xiaolu nodded, "Yes, I graduate this year."
Li He asked, "What are your plans next?"
Li Xiaolu said, "I've already found a job; I start next week."
Li He raised an eyebrow, "Oh? Where will you be working?"
Li Xiaolu replied, "At a financial company."
Li He said, "That sounds great."
Li Xiaolu smiled, "Thank you."
Li He looked at her and asked, "Do you have a boyfriend?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head, "No."
Li He smiled and said, "What do you think of me then?"
Li Xiaolu was taken aback.
She didn't expect Li He to say that.
She looked at him and stammered, "You... what did you say?"
Li He smiled and said, "I think you're quite beautiful, and I like your qualities. If you think I'm okay too, we could try dating."
Li Xiaolu was silent for a moment before saying, "I'm sorry, but I don't have plans for that right now."
Li He was stunned, "You don't have plans for that?"
Li Xiaolu nodded, "I'm sorry; I have something to do today. I need to go now."
After saying that, she picked up her bag and stood up to leave.
She walked out of the café and called Zhang Lin.
"Hey dear, I've arrived. Where are you?"
Zhang Lin replied, "I'll be there soon; just wait for me."
Li Xiaolu said, "Okay, I'll wait for you."
After hanging up the phone, she walked to the roadside and hailed a cab. She gave the driver her address and then looked out the window. The changes in Hong Kong were significant. She remembered her last visit to Hong Kong, which seemed like seven or eight years ago. At that time, she had just finished her college entrance exams and had come to Hong Kong for a trip with Jijun. But now, while Hong Kong remained the same, Jijun was no longer there.
Li Xiaolu closed her eyes and sighed deeply. Forty minutes later, the car stopped on an old street in Central District. Li Xiaolu got out and walked into a Cantonese restaurant. She had just taken her seat when Zhang Lin arrived.
"Dear, did you wait long?" Zhang Lin asked.
Li Xiaolu shook her head. "No, I just got here."
Zhang Lin sat down across from her and asked, "How was your blind date today?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head again. "Not great."
Zhang Lin looked surprised. "What do you mean by 'not great'?"
Li Xiaolu replied, "I just didn't feel anything for him."
Zhang Lin sighed. "Alright then, let's eat first."
Li Xiaolu nodded. After finishing their meal, the two of them left the restaurant.
"Where should we go for fun?" Zhang Lin asked.
Li Xiaolu suggested, "Let's just walk around."
Zhang Lin said, "How about K11? It's really beautiful there at night."
Li Xiaolu nodded. "Okay."
They took a taxi to K11. The night view of Victoria Harbour was stunning, with lights sparkling like a fallen galaxy. As Li Xiaolu gazed at Victoria Harbour, she felt an emptiness inside her. She recalled Jijun telling her that he had grown up in Hong Kong but had returned to the mainland after his parents passed away. Looking back now, perhaps he had known who she was all along, which is why he shared those stories with her.
Li Xiaolu closed her eyes again and sighed deeply.
Zhang Lin asked, "What's wrong?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head, "It's nothing."
Zhang Lin looked at her, "Do you have something on your mind?"
Li Xiaolu smiled, "No."
Zhang Lin snorted, "You're just trying to fool me."
Li Xiaolu smiled again, "I really have nothing."
Zhang Lin looked at her, "You have to tell me honestly, are you still thinking about Jijun?"
Li Xiaolu was taken aback.
She looked at Zhang Lin, "Why do you suddenly ask this?"
Zhang Lin said, "I just feel like you've been a bit off lately."
Li Xiaolu smiled, "You're overthinking it."
Zhang Lin sighed, "Alright, since you don't want to talk about it, I won't ask."
Li Xiaolu smiled, "Thank you, Linlin."
Zhang Lin waved her hand, "Who are we to each other?"
Li Xiaolu looked at her, "How are things between you and Zhou Xi?"
Zhang Lin shrugged, "It's just like that."
Li Xiaolu asked, "Is he still not answering your calls?"
Zhang Lin said, "Yeah, he doesn't reply to my messages either."
Li Xiaolu sighed, "What are you planning to do about it?"
Zhang Lin said, "I'm planning to go see him in a few days."
Li Xiaolu was surprised, "You're going to New Zealand?"
Zhang Lin nodded, "Yeah."
Li Xiaolu looked at her, "Have you thought it through?"
Zhang Lin smiled, "I've thought it through."
Li Xiaolu sighed, "Well then."
