She looked around again and noticed that his slippers were still by the bed and his pajamas were hanging on the bedroom rack, proving that he hadn’t left. Li Xiaolu secretly breathed a sigh of relief, but then she felt it was unbelievable that she had actually fallen into a deep sleep on Jijun's bed for so long.
She glanced at the time on her phone; it was six-thirty, still early. Li Xiaolu got out of bed, tidied up her clothes, and walked out of the bedroom. The living room was empty, but she heard some noise coming from the balcony. She walked over and found Jijun standing at the balcony door, holding a medicine box and looking down intently.
His presence was faint, and he seemed somewhat lonely and desolate under the dim light. Li Xiaolu had never seen this side of Jijun before; in her memory, he had always been carefree and nonchalant, as if nothing bothered him and everything was under his control. This version of Jijun made Li Xiaolu feel a pang of heartache.
She walked over and hugged Jijun from behind. His body stiffened for a moment, then he turned around and embraced Li Xiaolu in return. She closed her eyes, feeling the warmth in his arms, which brought her a sense of peace. She thought to herself that she liked this feeling, the feeling of having someone by her side.
But soon, Li Xiaolu realized that it was getting late and she needed to go back. She didn’t want to let go of Jijun, but her stomach was already protesting. Li Xiaolu released Jijun and looked up at him. “I have to go.”
Jijun stared at her without saying a word. Li Xiaolu felt her cheeks flush under his gaze. “I have things to do tonight.”
Finally, Jijun spoke up, “Are you coming over tomorrow?”
Without thinking, Li Xiaolu retorted, “Do you want me to come over?”
Jijun gazed at her with intense eyes. “What do you think?”
Li Xiaolu smiled; at that moment, she was sure that Jijun felt the same way as she did—looking forward to each other’s company. She stood on her tiptoes and lightly kissed him on the lips. “Yes.”
Jijun wrapped his arms around her waist, deepening the kiss.
After leaving Jijun's home, Li Xiaolu returned to her apartment, her mind still in a whirl. She sat in a chair, gazing out at the night view, her thoughts consumed by Jijun. She patted her flushed cheeks, forcing herself to calm down. There were emails she needed to handle.
Taking a deep breath, Li Xiaolu opened her computer. She tried to ignore the thoughts swirling around her and focused on her emails. However, she found it hard to concentrate; her mind kept wandering. Eventually, she shut down the computer and went to the kitchen for a glass of water. After drinking, she returned to her bedroom and lay down on the bed.
She took out her phone and looked at the chat conversation with Jijun, scrolling through their messages. As she read, she couldn't help but smile. Reflecting on their connection and Jijun's kindness warmed her heart.
Checking the time on her phone, she noticed it was just past eight—not too late. She thought she should go to bed early so she would have energy to spend time with Jijun tomorrow. Yet, Li Xiaolu couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard she tried. She had napped too long in the afternoon, leaving her wide awake now.
Tossing and turning, she repeatedly glanced at the time on her phone. By ten o'clock, sleep still eluded her. Finally, she sat up, hugging a pillow against the headboard and staring blankly at the ceiling. Her mind was a jumble—one moment it was Jijun's kiss, then thoughts of her birthday, followed by what she would do after graduation...
Her thoughts were too chaotic for her to control. Reluctantly, she pulled out her phone and began searching for job postings in finance. Her major was Financial Engineering, and she wanted to work in that field after graduation, so she needed to do some research ahead of time. She browsed through several job listings but found none that were particularly appealing.
She put down her phone with a hint of frustration and sighed. She really didn't know what to do, where her future lay, or what her dreams were. Looking out at the moon, she felt lost. Suddenly, she remembered what Jijun had said: "Lulu, don't think too much; just choose according to your heart." Choosing according to her heart...
Li Xiaolu closed her eyes, and Jijun's face appeared in her mind. She wanted to be with him; she wanted to be with him... Once this thought took root, it became impossible to suppress. She wanted to be with him, no matter what happened in the future; she wanted to be with him.
She wanted to share every morning and evening with him, to walk through every journey of life together. She wanted to hold his hand while walking down the street, watch the sunrise and sunset together, and do countless things with him... She wanted to be with him, wanting never to part.
This thought made Li Xiaolu's heart race and her cheeks flush. She realized that she had fallen in love with Jijun. She wanted to be with him, to marry him, and to never be apart from him. This idea filled Li Xiaolu with immense joy. She truly believed she had fallen in love with Jijun.
Li Xiaolu tossed and turned in bed until after eleven o'clock before finally feeling sleepy.
