She stepped out with an umbrella.
Walking outside the apartment, she hailed a taxi and headed straight for the supermarket.
Inside the supermarket, she bought a lot of items, and by the time she checked out, both shopping bags were overflowing.
Carrying the two heavy shopping bags, she exited the supermarket and took out her phone to call a Lyft.
While waiting for her ride by the roadside, a group of Brats ran past her.
One of the Brats accidentally kicked one of her shopping bags, causing peaches to roll all over the ground.
She quickly crouched down to pick them up.
Her hair fell forward, obstructing her view.
She pushed her hair aside with her hand and suddenly noticed a hand in front of her.
The hand wore a familiar ring.
She froze for a moment and looked up abruptly.
Jijun was standing there, looking down at her.
She stared at him blankly: "You..."
Jijun raised an eyebrow: "What about me?"
Li Xiaolu stood up and looked at him: "How come you're here?"
Jijun shrugged: "Can't I be here?"
Li Xiaolu was momentarily at a loss for words.
Jijun pointed to the peaches on the ground: "Aren't you going to pick them up?"
Li Xiaolu snapped back to reality and hurriedly crouched down to gather the peaches.
Jijun helped her pick them up as well.
Soon, they had collected all the peaches back into the shopping bag.
Li Xiaolu held the shopping bag in her hand and looked up at Jijun: "Thank you."
Jijun smiled and said, "No need to be polite."
Li Xiaolu looked at him and asked, "How... how did you end up here?"
Jijun replied, "Is it strange for me to be here?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head, "No... I just find it a bit surprising."
Jijun smiled and said, "I work here."
Li Xiaolu was somewhat surprised, "You work here?"
Jijun nodded, "I manage this hotel."
Li Xiaolu glanced at the hotel behind him and then asked, "When did you come back?"
Jijun thought for a moment, "Yesterday."
Li Xiaolu looked at him, "You came back yesterday?"
Jijun nodded, "Yeah."
Li Xiaolu continued to look at him, "Then why... why didn't you contact me?"
Jijun smiled and asked, "Why would I contact you?"
Li Xiaolu was taken aback by his question.
Indeed, why would he contact her?
They were merely strangers who had crossed paths.
She couldn't help but smile wryly, "You're right."
Jijun looked at her, "What's wrong?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head, "It's nothing."
Jijun continued to look at her, "Are you sure you're okay?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head again, "I'm fine."
Jijun looked at her and then suddenly fell silent.
Li Xiaolu looked at him in confusion, "What's wrong with me?"
Jijun sighed, "You seem to have lost weight."
Li Xiaolu smiled, "Really?"
Jijun nodded, "Yeah."
Li Xiaolu said with a smile, "I've been on a diet lately."
Jijun frowned, "You're still dieting?"
Li Xiaolu nodded, "I had gained a lot of weight before."
Jijun looked at her, "You don't need to lose weight."
Li Xiaolu smiled again, "I think it's necessary."
Jijun sighed, "You really..."
Before he could finish his sentence, he suddenly heard someone calling him.
"Jijun, where have you been?"
Jijun turned to take a look, "I'll be right there."
He turned back to Li Xiaolu, "I have to go."
Li Xiaolu nodded, "You go ahead."
Jijun looked at her, "You..."
He fell silent again.
Li Xiaolu looked at him in confusion, "What's wrong with me?"
Jijun sighed, "Forget it, it's nothing."
Li Xiaolu looked at him, "Are you really okay?"
Jijun smiled lightly, "I'm fine."
Li Xiaolu looked at him, "Then you... you can go now."
Jijun nodded, "I'm leaving."
Watching him leave, Li Xiaolu suddenly felt a sense of emptiness in her heart. She couldn't help but wonder if they would meet again.
