Fang Xia said, "I knew you wouldn't believe me. Even if I tell the truth this time, you still won't believe it. So what else should I say? Just say I'm acting again and want to go back, why bother pretending with me?"
"Hmph."
Jiang Wen replied, "You don't cherish the opportunity given to you. This cat looks like a purebred, so beautiful, and the wounds on its body have long healed. You still claim that these are from the surgery you did yesterday. I think you used the money for treatment to buy it instead! If you're going to lie, at least come up with a better excuse, do you understand?"
Fang Xia protested, "I'm really not lying this time, I truly am..."
Jiang Wen tossed aside the cat in her hands and wiped her hands with a tissue. "Bringing you here was a mistake; you should have been sent to a mental hospital instead. Now you're making up supernatural events just to get back to the city and hang out with your dubious friends."
Fang Xia shouted, "I don't have dubious friends; they are my friends, not some shady characters or thugs! What's wrong with not doing well in school? Besides, it's my own decline in studies; why do you keep blaming them? It's clearly my own issue."
Jiang Wen was somewhat angry and pushed Fang Xia away. "Look at your grades! From being in the top ten of your class to now being placed in an ordinary class. You're about to enter your senior year; can't you let me worry a little less? You spend all day playing games with them and come home late at night. Just take a good look at yourself now."
"Mom!"
"Don't talk back. This summer vacation, you will study alone here at home. If your grades don't improve by the time of the entrance exams when school starts, just wait and see how I'll deal with you!"
Jiang Wen shoved past Fang Xia and shot an angry glance at Fang Zhimo, who was still standing at the door. "Look at your good son."
Fang Zhimo replied, "... ..."
"Can't you mother and son have a decent conversation without always arguing?" Jiang Wen sneered. "Shut up and go home."
Fang Zhimo lowered his head. "Okay."
Fang Xia leaned against the door, watching her parents quietly walk away until they gradually disappeared into the fields among the mountains.
Suddenly, a hand rested on her shoulder. Fang Xia turned around abruptly and found that the small cat had transformed back into a young man without her noticing.
Perhaps it was the words of Fang Xia that had an effect; despite the stains on his clothes, the boy still put them on.
The liquid continued to flow, and Fang Xia could no longer tolerate it.
She grabbed the boy's arm and led him directly into the bathroom, turning on the shower.
The boy was startled and leaped into Fang Xia's arms, trembling and gripping her sleeves tightly.
Noticing the creases and stains on her clothes, Fang Xia raised an eyebrow, momentarily forgetting that cats are afraid of water.
Realizing the strange smell of the liquid on her body, Fang Xia promptly removed both of their clothes and decided to take a bath together.
The boy was quite resistant.
Under Fang Xia's gradual coaxing, he began to lower his guard and approached the flowing water.
However, soon enough, his excessive curiosity led him to mimic bathing movements, turning the showerhead around.
"Stop playing around and wash up quickly; it's filthy," she urged.
After their bath, Fang Xia wrapped the boy in a towel and tossed him onto the bed.
She retrieved some clothes she had found and threw them in front of him.
The boy quickly changed into the clothes and obediently sat on the bed, staring at Fang Xia.
Fang Xia took out a small metal piece from the clothes she wore yesterday and walked over to the table to examine it closely.
The metal piece is square, about one centimeter in size, and appears to be quite thin.
Hmm? There's a small gap here.
Fang Xia used her fingernail to pry it open but couldn't manage it. Then she picked up a nearby blade and pried it open.
The piece looked dark, but inside the small space, there were strange numbers written: A10086.
What is this? A China Mobile SIM card?
It does resemble one, but there seems to be something unusual about it. Fang Xia decided to keep the small metal piece and tucked it into a book.
That night, when going to bed, Fang Xia thought it would be necessary to have a friendly chat with the little spirit; she would sleep on the sofa while he slept in the bed.
However, no matter how many times he tried, the Cat-Eared Boy always jumped back from the sofa to the bed.
In the end, under the sweet smile revealing his teeth, Fang Xia gave in.
But he didn't want to back down; after all, it was his own bed that he had to sleep in.
In the middle of the night, the sound of cicadas outside filled the air, and the rustling leaves turned into a lullaby.
The two of them on the bed were sleeping soundly.
Fang Xia's sleeping posture was lazy, her legs sprawled out and taking up a large space.
Even so, the Cat-Eared Boy stubbornly lay beside Fang Xia, not sure if he was asleep or not; his Cat Tail swayed slightly with the gentle breeze from the window.
Perhaps feeling a bit cold from being too far from Fang Xia, the Cat-Eared Boy curled up and nestled himself under Fang Xia's elbow, resting his head on Fang Xia's abdomen, with his tail wrapped around Fang Xia's arm.
"It's so hot!" In his sleep, Fang Xia felt as if a hot water bottle had been stuffed under his arm; the summer night was simply unbearable.
Drowsily opening his eyes just a crack, Fang Xia saw the boy, completely naked, practically pressing his entire body against him.
Fang Xia kicked out with his foot, waking the boy who had his eyes closed.
The boy slowly lifted half of his body.
Without opening his eyes and unsure of what was happening, he sensed the stillness and let himself fall back onto Fang Xia.
Fang Xia rubbed his forehead; it was just too hot. There was no air conditioning in the summer here, and being this close was suffocating!
Just as Fang Xia was contemplating whether to kick the boy again, a warm glow enveloped the boy's entire body as he shrank back down to Bai Tuanzi.
Having transformed back into a smaller size, the kitten changed positions and fell off the edge of the bed.
Seeing the little cat still squinting its eyes in search of warmth, Fang Xia decided to simply place his hand on his own belly.
Forget it; he might as well think of it as a warm compress on his navel.
