At seventeen, Fang Xia was in his second year of high school. 0

Perhaps the pressures of high school life were too overwhelming; sometimes Fang Xia would barely speak more than ten sentences in an entire day. When he returned home, he would bury himself in video games, becoming a typical gaming addict. 0

Yan Zhimo and Jiang Wen felt they needed to take him out for a change. Coincidentally, there was a house at the foot of the mountain near their hometown, nestled by the woods, which was a great place to escape the heat of summer. 0

The family decided to act on it, and as soon as summer vacation began, they took Fang Xia and Yan Qing back to the old house in their hometown. 0

The house was from the last century, quite dilapidated but exceptionally sturdy. 0

The area was somewhat remote, with the nearest neighbor over a hundred meters away, creating a particularly quiet atmosphere that Fang Xia enjoyed. 0

On the first day there, Yan Qing helped her brother and parents clean up all day and was especially favored by the mosquitoes in the mountains, ending up with quite a few bites. 0

Crying and fussing all day long, Yan Zhimo and Jiang Wen couldn't bear to see their little daughter like this and discussed it with Fang Xia. 0

The next day, the three of them left everything behind for Fang Xia, promising to come back when they had time to check on him and encouraging him to study hard. They even thoughtfully left him a mountain bike so he could ride ten kilometers to the nearest store for supplies. 0

The geographical location was quite isolated and sparsely populated; otherwise, Fang Xia's grandfather wouldn't have liked the scenery here enough to make some renovations—otherwise, it might not have been livable! 0

After they left, Fang Xia felt a bit excited. 0

However, the poor signal made it impossible for him to play games or watch TV without interruptions, leaving him feeling miserable. 0

With only intermittent contact with the outside world through his phone, Fang Xia occasionally felt reassured that he hadn't completely disconnected from humanity. 0

As a child, Fang Xia would almost always return here every summer with his grandfather, who would point out the scenery and affectionately refer to it as their little cabin in the woods. 0

With the old man's passing, the family hadn't returned in many years. 0

Fang Xia had never been more grateful for the old man's wilderness survival skills. In a place without a gas canister, she started with just a pot and a knife. 0

Holding an axe, Fang Xia irritably chopped firewood and piled it into a circle at the corner of the house. 0

Fortunately, she had brought a lighter this time. After reflecting for a moment, Fang Xia took a pack of instant noodles from the old refrigerator, tore open the packaging, and placed it into the pot hanging over the burning firewood to boil. 0

After waiting for a while, she began eating straight from the pot without washing it. 0

The atmosphere was just right for one person, and the food tasted especially good. 0

Suddenly, a loud crack of thunder echoed through the sky, startling Fang Xia and causing her to burn her tongue. 0

She stuck out her tongue and finished the remaining noodles. As she poured a large spoonful of water to clean up, she heard the sound of rain pounding against the window outside. Looking up, she saw rain cascading down the glass like a waterfall. 0

"It's really coming down," Fang Xia thought to herself. 0

In the pouring rain, Fang Xia took out her math test and quietly wrote under the dim warm yellow light. 0

After more than an hour of working on it, looking at the few remaining problems made Fang Xia's head ache more and more. She rested her chin on her hand and pondered back and forth. 0

"Clang." 0

A noise startled Fang Xia awake, and her face clearly showed her drowsiness. 0

Shaking her head to clear her mind, she realized that the sound was coming from outside. It must have been the heavy rain knocking over her pile of firewood. 0

Blaming herself for not building a solid foundation when stacking it, Fang Xia finally threw herself onto the bed. 0

After lying down for a while, Fang Xia still couldn't fall asleep. 0

Eventually, she got up and opened the door. 0

Looking up, among a pile of firewood, Fang Xia immediately spotted a curled-up white fluffball. 0

It looked like a cat, completely motionless. 0

Fang Xia reached out and picked up the white fluffball, cradling it in her arms. The little creature nudged closer to the warmth. 0

Fang Xia placed the kitten next to the still-burning firewood and spread a towel on the ground. 0

The kitten's soft white fur looked especially silky after getting wet. Fang Xia reached out to touch it, and a puddle of water soaked into the towel. 0

Soon, the towel was completely soaked. Fang Xia turned around to find a basin, poured in some hot water and added a bit of cold water, testing the temperature with her hand before placing the kitten inside. 0

Perhaps due to its weakness, the kitten didn't struggle at all; it didn't even open its eyes and simply lay in the warm water. 0

After giving the kitten a warm bath, Fang Xia took out a bath towel and wrapped the entire cat in it, gently rubbing it dry. 0

"Why do you look like a Chihuahua?" 0

With its fur wet and then dried, the kitten curled up into a ball. Its prominent eye sockets made it look thin and frail, resembling a hairless Chihuahua. 0

Fang Xia found this appearance amusing and couldn't help but laugh as she spoke to the cat. 0

Feeling the loud noise of the hairdryer, the kitten finally woke up. 0

For a moment, their eyes met—Fang Xia's dark eyes gazing into the kitten's amber ones. 0

With both hands unconsciously reaching out, Fang Xia gently pinched the little cat's cheeks and slowly turned its face. 0

Fang Xia looked at the cat, which was staring at her without moving, and felt a surge of energy: "How did you end up at my doorstep? Were you trying to scam me?" 0

She continued to play with the cat's cheeks, "Is it comfortable? Not moving at all, and your eyes are half-closed. Look at you." 0

Fang Xia gently pressed the little cat's nose, and its sleepy eyes suddenly widened, staring intently at Fang Xia as its black pupils gradually enlarged, filling its entire eye socket. 0

"Meow." The little cat licked its right paw. 0

After being washed, the cat was pure white with no trace of any other color, and its obedient appearance was truly heart-melting. 0

Fang Xia placed the little cat beside her bed and climbed onto the bed herself. 0

The little cat was very understanding; it curled up into a ball, facing Fang Xia, and closed its eyes to sleep. 0

The night grew deep, and the rain continued to fall. 0

On a summer night filled with heavy rain, one person and one cat listened to the sound of raindrops pattering against the eaves, sharing the same bed. 0
