I pressed the record button, and the busy tone on the other end of the line turned into a series of beeps. While waiting for the call to connect, I habitually tapped my fingers lightly on the table, trying to ease my inner tension. Soon, the call connected, and a deep male voice came through: "Hello, who is this?"

There was silence on the other end for a few seconds; Dr. Zhang seemed to be hesitating. I held my breath, waiting for his response.
"I'm sorry, but as a doctor, I have to be responsible for my patients and cannot disclose their privacy casually." Dr. Zhang's refusal was expected, but I wasn't going to give up easily.
"Dr. Zhang, I understand your concerns, and I assure you that I will not disclose any private information about Miss Angela. I'm just trying to find out if there are weight loss pills on the market that can be harmful to health and how to avoid using them. I hope to raise awareness about healthy weight loss through this program." I changed my approach in an attempt to persuade Dr. Zhang.
There was silence again on the line, and I could sense that Dr. Zhang's attitude was softening.

I suppressed my excitement and replied calmly, "Thank you, Dr. Zhang; you are very kind."
After ending the call with Dr. Zhang, I let out a long sigh and leaned back in my chair. Dr. Zhang confirmed my suspicions: Angela had indeed taken a weight loss herbal remedy from Southeast Asia that caused serious health issues. He also informed me that the ingredients of this herbal remedy were unknown and likely contained harmful substances; he advised me not to try it lightly.
I rubbed my temples; Angela's experience made me even more worried about Lingling. I needed to find out the source of this herbal remedy as soon as possible and uncover the truth.
Based on the clues provided by Dr. Zhang, the trading market for this herbal remedy was in Southeast Asia. I immediately booked a flight to Southeast Asia, preparing to investigate in person. Before leaving, I called brother Li and lied that I had found Angela, arranging to meet him in Southeast Asia.

I picked up my coffee and took a gentle sip. The bitterness of the coffee spread across my tongue, but it couldn't mask the unease in my heart.
