"He's going to the airport? To find me?" My head buzzed, as if countless bees were buzzing in my ears. I grabbed Bai Wei's arm tightly. "Which airport is he going to? What time is his flight? Why didn't he tell me?"
Bai Wei was startled by my sudden action. She gently pulled away from my grip, her eyes filled with worry and helplessness. "Lingxi, don't act like this. You need to calm down. Du Ming..."
"Calm down? How can I calm down!" I interrupted her almost shouting. "He left without a word, leaving me here alone, and now you tell me he's going to find me? How am I supposed to calm down?!"
My heart was in turmoil as I rushed out of the room, frantically running downstairs. I had to get to the airport; I needed to bring him back!
"Lingxi! Don't be impulsive!" Bai Wei shouted behind me, but I couldn't hear her anymore. All I wanted was to see Du Ming as soon as possible and ask him face-to-face why he treated me this way.
I hailed a taxi and headed straight for the airport. All the way there, my heart was in my throat, terrified of missing any flight information.
Finally arriving at the airport, I dashed into the terminal, anxiously searching for Du Ming's figure. But everywhere I looked, there were bustling crowds, and not one of them was him.
I took out my phone and repeatedly dialed Du Ming's number, but all I got in response was the cold mechanical voice: "The number you have dialed is unavailable. Please try again later..."
I slumped helplessly onto a cold chair, tears streaming down my face. Had I really lost him?
"Lingxi?" A familiar voice called from above me. I looked up sharply, and there he was—Du Ming!
He looked exhausted, his clothes a bit disheveled, but the light in his eyes made me forget all my grievances and sadness in an instant.
I jumped up without thinking and slapped him across the face. "Du Ming, you jerk!" He was momentarily stunned; hurt flashed in his eyes but was quickly replaced by determination as he grabbed my wrist urgently. "Lingxi, let me explain! It's not what you think!"
"Not what I think? Then what is it? Do you dare say you didn't believe that woman? Do you dare say you never doubted me?" I shook off his hand, tears streaming down my cheeks. "Du Ming, I gave up everything for you and traveled all this way just for you to treat me like this?"
"I didn't! I've never doubted you!" He pulled me into his arms tightly. "I just... I just worried about you. I was afraid you'd be deceived or hurt..."
"Did you ever think that your actions are the greatest hurt to me?" I pushed him away, my tone icy. "Du Ming, you're always like this—thinking you're doing what's best for me without ever asking what I truly want!"
"Lingxi, I know I'm wrong. I shouldn't have doubted you; I just..." He reached out to wipe away my tears but was pushed away by me.
"What do you mean 'just'? You're just used to controlling everything and loving me your way without ever considering that all I need is pure trust and respect!" I took a deep breath, trying to suppress my anger. "Du Ming, we both need to calm down."
"Lingxi!" A familiar voice called from behind—it was Bai Wei. She must have heard the news and rushed over. Her face was filled with anxiety; she had been watching everything between Du Ming and me unfold and must have been worried sick.
"Bai Wei, why are you here?" I tried to calm myself down so she wouldn't worry too much.
"Lingxi, please don't be angry. Du Ming didn't mean it; he just cares about you too much." Bai Wei walked over and gently patted my shoulder in an attempt to comfort me.
"Cares about me? If he really cared about me, he wouldn't believe that woman's nonsense or come questioning me without understanding!" My emotions flared up again as tears continued to flow.
"Lingxi, please stop crying and listen to me..." Du Ming tried to approach me but was stopped by Bai Wei.
"Du Ming, don't say anything right now; let Lingxi calm down." Bai Wei turned to him with a serious tone. "You need to think carefully about what you've done wrong."
Du Ming fell silent, looking at me with eyes full of pain and guilt. I knew he was hurting too, but some things couldn't be explained in just a few words.
I took a deep breath and turned to leave this suffocating place. "Lingxi, where are you going?" Du Ming's voice called out behind me, tinged with a hint of panic.
"It’s none of your business where I go." I didn't turn back, my tone icy. I heard a sigh behind me, followed by Bai Wei's voice, "Du Ming, let her go. Give her some time."
I left without looking back, letting tears blur my vision. I didn't know where to go or what to do about this relationship; I just wanted to escape, to flee from everything.
Bai Wei watched us leave one after the other, her brow furrowed, filled with worry and helplessness. How did things come to this? They were once two people in love; how did they end up here? Would this argument mark the end of their relationship or the beginning of something new?
