Returning to his residence, Ren Chang and the other four had not yet returned.
Xu Feng took out the Golden Silk Armor from his storage bag. With a thought, the armor merged into his body. The armor was a sleeveless, half-length garment that primarily protected the chest and abdomen, offering no protection for the head or limbs.
As the spiritual tool armor entered his body, there was no discomfort; he only felt an invisible barrier added to his chest. A full-force strike from a Foundation Establishment Stage cultivator would cause minimal damage after passing through this barrier. Coupled with Xu Feng's formidable Five Elements Body, with this armor, he could almost disregard attacks from ordinary Foundation Establishment Stage cultivators.
Having money certainly makes things easier. If someone wore a Superior Spirit Tool battle outfit, challenging opponents of higher levels would not be a problem. The reason scattered cultivators have been suppressed by Major Sects is partly due to their outdated equipment.
When the New Moon Sect recruits disciples, scattered cultivators scramble to join in hopes of gaining benefits from the sect. Although Xu Feng managed to get in, it seemed that he only received the identity of cannon fodder. It appears that having money alone is not enough.
Currently, Xu Feng could only summon one Emperor Sparrow Aqi, which was equivalent to a Sixth-Level Monster at the Golden Core Stage and counted as Xu Feng's senior brother. If he did not show respect, Xu Feng would have no way to deal with it. It was still too early to establish a sect to contend against major powers; forming a gang like Qinghua Gang might be possible but would hold little significance, as any random Golden Core Cultivator could easily wipe them out.
With two days left until the next Jingcheng Auction House event, Xu Feng did not go out again. Besides consolidating his Fire and Earth cultivation methods and combat techniques, he focused on reading and alchemy.
The Fragrance Heroes Chronicle spans three hundred years, listing one hundred top experts. The copy in his possession was compiled ten years ago. According to the publication timeline of Iron Blood Trading Company, the re-ranked Heroes of the Fragrant Nation would be released soon.
The strength rankings of Liuxiang's Six Sects showed slight discrepancies compared to this Heroes of the Fragrant Nation. The New Moon Sect was represented by its leader Cao Wushang, who was at the Late Stage of Golden Core and ranked second. However, Guiyi Sect surpassed New Moon Sect in overall strength; its leader Chai Longbo ranked third in Heroes of the Fragrant Nation.
The master of Guo Shan Sword Sect also ranked fourth, surpassing Star River Sword Sect, while Wan Jian Sect maintained its sixth position.
Ranked first was Wuhua Island, without dispute. However, it was not Wuhua Island Master Hua Guinian who made the list but rather Hua Wanduo, one of Wuhua Island's twin swords and its eldest sister.
Hua Wanduo remained the eldest sister but had now surpassed two hundred years of age and held the esteemed title of one of Wuhua Island's Three Elders.
After the Six Sects came scattered cultivators on the list; ranked seventh was Xiaoyao Swordsman Kong Sanren. Following that was Jin Liaoyuan, the only controversial figure in the top ten and also the only expert whose life or death remained unknown. Most people speculated that Jin Liaoyuan was already dead, but no one had seen his corpse. At such a high level of expertise, no one could guarantee that he had truly perished.
Thus, the Iron Blood Trading Company ranked Jin Liaoyuan eighth, based on his past martial performance, which also sparked the second point of controversy: the top-ranked Hua Wanduo had been thoroughly defeated by Jin Liaoyuan in the past.
Ranking ninth and tenth are Lan Xiao and Qu Da Zhong, both unconventional Experts. Following the top ten, some gang leaders appeared, all possessing strength above the Golden Core stage.
The Heroes of the Fragrant Nation provided brief descriptions of the ranked cultivators. Xu Feng only noted that Jin Liaoyuan had a battle at Wuhua Island; however, the book did not elaborate on the details of this battle. It is believed that this battle, which took place two hundred years ago, must have been highly significant, and finding more information about it shouldn't be too difficult.
After reading Heroes of the Fragrant Nation, Xu Feng gained a new understanding of the power structure in Liuxiang Kingdom. The mainstream still revolves around the Six Major Sects, with some large Spiritual Ore Veins and high-yield medicinal fields being dominated by them. The resources available to loose cultivators are minimal; to quickly enhance their strength, they can only engage in high-risk ventures such as going to sea or entering the Beast Wasteland.
The Six Sects are not united; conflicts and skirmishes are commonplace. Xu Feng personally witnessed a fierce clash between New Moon Sect and Guiyi Sect. Wuhua Island stands alone at the top and enjoys a leisurely existence.
Xu Feng used Wuhua Island's reputation to buy arrows and benefited from its prestige. Considering that his master Jin Liaoyuan had once fought against Wuhua Island, it seems there was some history there; borrowing their name for a while is inconsequential.
True Alchemy Explanation is the cultivation method of Wan Jian Sect, which Xu Feng had long since memorized. However, without a Dan Furnace, he had never had the opportunity to practice. Purchasing this Dan Furnace was merely to apply what he learned and maximize the value of the medicinal materials he possessed.
Both the cultivation method and Dan Furnace are at the Human Level; even if he produced perfect elixirs, they would not aid Xu Feng's cultivation directly. What he gains is experience in Alchemy, which is of utmost importance.
Alchemy generally consists of three steps: refining medicine, mixing medicine, and condensing pills.
Refining medicine involves using the Dan Furnace to transform medicinal materials into medicinal vapor. The Dan Furnace has ten slots for different types of materials, which after refining are transported into the pill chamber through pipes.
Mixing medicine means proportionally combining the Spiritual Energy of the materials in the pill chamber before distributing them to various pill-forming openings.
The final step of condensing pills involves merging Spiritual Energy with Cinnabar and forming a protective layer on the surface before solidifying into pills.
The fire source used in Alchemy is derived from a cultivator's own Fire Element Technique or can involve drawing in exotic fire from outside to use as one's own. Different fire sources have vastly different effects on Alchemy, and controlling flames reveals an Alchemist's technical differences.
True Alchemy Explanation contains dozens of formulas, all for low-level Human Level pills. Xu Feng selected a few formulas that matched the materials he had on hand for experimentation.
After a while, he consumed quite a bit of materials and successfully refined only three pills, which were the lowest grade Pill of Hunger Suppression. The rest were all failed pills, either broken or improperly mixed. Although the overall success rate was less than thirty percent, the success of these last three pills gave Xu Feng immense confidence; nothing is more exciting than a good start.
Time passed quickly.
The first large auction house in Mist City, “Jingcheng Auction,” announced the start of its auction. A month and a half of advertising had the cultivators eagerly waiting at the venue. The original Fairy Market had been cleared of large merchants, and the organizers set up an auction stage with seating and even VIP boxes for major clients.
Outside, an array master at the level of Array King set up an illusion array, so outsiders only saw an empty space and had no idea there was an auction happening inside or what items were being auctioned.
Inside and outside the venue, over a dozen Golden Core Stage cultivators were present to oversee the event. The Golden Core Cultivators from Liuxiang Kingdom were top-tier experts from various sects; it was hard to imagine where Jingcheng Auction found so many Golden Core Cultivators. With this group of expert Guardians, both buyers and sellers at the auction felt completely at ease.
Xu Feng arrived early at the Auction House, sitting towards the back near the south entrance, wearing a Fortune God Mask. This mask was provided free by the organizers and contained a one-time illusion charm that prevented anyone from seeing his true face.
The ticket cost one hundred spirit stones, which wasn’t expensive; this wasn’t where the auction house made its profits.
This auction featured no less than ten key items, all classified as Rare Treasure of a Century, with prices so high that even someone as wealthy as Xu Feng was taken aback.
“Dear friends, whether you’ve come from afar or nearby, you are all guests here. Buyers and sellers are my benefactors… uh, enough chit-chat, let’s get straight to the goods.” The host abruptly halted his speech, causing laughter to erupt in the hall.
Two assistants brought out a sturdy, wide square table. Then, as the beaded curtain swayed, a stunningly beautiful Female Cultivator entered gracefully, placing a fish-skin battle knife on the table before elegantly turning and retreating backstage.
“Dear friends, please look here! Our first auction item is the Shark Slayer Blade, not that beautiful lady from earlier,” the host teased as he noticed some cultivators drooling.
“What? The Shark Slayer Blade! The one that Liu Busan used to defeat Qin Ge a hundred years ago?”
"This is a Superior Spirit Tool!"
"Too bad it's for Water Element only, not suitable for me."
"If it's not suitable for you, why are you still talking? I'm taking this knife."
"Zhou Xingxing, aren't you practicing Water Element?"
"Isn't it okay to give it to my girlfriend?"
"Uh..."
The host continued, "The Superior Spirit Tool Shark Slayer Blade, for Water Element only, starting bid at three hundred thousand, with each subsequent bid no less than ten thousand."
Interested cultivators in the venue began to place their bids. After a round of competition, the Shark Slayer Blade was won by a cultivator for five hundred thousand.
