They cautiously made their way, avoiding direct paths and keeping an eye out for any signs of trouble. Any slight movement in the surroundings would cause the five to hide and observe. By the time it was bright, they finally arrived at Baixian Pavilion.
Baixian Pavilion is located twenty miles west of Xian City, nestled between mountains and water, with the lodging buildings situated in the center of Bright Moon Lake. The pavilion is a skirt building formed by a dozen three-story structures, resembling the character "回" as it sits in the lake.
An "S"-shaped waterside pavilion extends over the lake to the shore, and at forty spirit stones per night, Baixian Pavilion truly lives up to its reputation as a star-rated hotel.
The surrounding walls are built with five-colored marble along the mountain, and at the water pavilion's edge is the entrance to Baixian Pavilion. At this moment, a servant-like cultivator was welcoming Xu Feng and his companions who had arrived early.
"Dear friends, are you here for lodging or dining? Our Baixian Pavilion offers an elegant environment and delicious food..."
"Lodging."
"Will all five of you be staying together? We have a special luxury package for just three hundred spirit stones per night..."
"One room for five people, plus four floor mats," Xu Feng interrupted the servant once again.
"Uh, Baixian Pavilion has never had such a precedent, but it's not impossible." The servant finally realized that these five were not wealthy patrons; their pained expressions resembled those of country bumpkins who had pooled their money together for a little indulgence.
The servant led them to a room near the entrance where a middle-aged man with a strong merchant aura was seated. If it weren't for his powerful aura as a cultivator, Xu Feng might have mistaken him for an ordinary person like Tang Zhenghao.
The servant whispered a few words in the middle-aged man's ear before turning to leave.
Without changing his expression, the middle-aged man smiled and said, "Dear friends, with the New Moon Sect recruiting disciples, business at Baixian Pavilion has indeed been good. Originally, having one room for five people would save us space, which is a good suggestion. However, considering your long journey, how could I let you sleep on floor mats? How about this: I'll give you two rooms at seventy spirit stones each."
At the original price, five single rooms would cost two hundred spirit stones. The middle-aged man reduced it to two rooms, saving them sixty spirit stones. Though he was somewhat reluctant, he still wanted to make a sale since there were plenty of rooms available.
Xu Feng secretly chuckled to himself; he had come seeking protection from Baixian Pavilion rather than trying to save on lodging costs. He then said, "You're very considerate; however, let's stick with five rooms. It would be quite unappealing for a bunch of stinky men to crowd together in such a nice place, wouldn't it?" Xu Feng raised an eyebrow and revealed a knowing smile that any man would understand.
"That's reasonable, that's reasonable." The middle-aged man saw that business had picked up again, and the smile on his face grew significantly. He said, "Not only is your cultivation profound, but your insights into life are also quite unique." His words left Xu Feng coughing in surprise. Fortunately, with the booking incident, the originally routine business now felt like the middle-aged man owed Xu Feng a favor.
Xu Feng prepaid ten times the rent, which surprised the middle-aged man even more; it turned out he was a big customer after all. Damn, he had misjudged him. Watching Xu Feng and his companions, his impression of them improved greatly, and they looked increasingly pleasing to him.
A servant entered from outside, leading Xu Feng and the five others into Baixian Pavilion. They walked along the waterside promenade, reminiscent of a lakeside resort from a past life. Upon entering the building, every ten meters along the corridor stood a cultivator whose strength was at least at the Fourth Layer of Qi Refinement. There was also a six-person team patrolling back and forth.
Baixian Pavilion truly lived up to its reputation as a place for immortals, with intricately carved beams and bright windows. The price of forty spirit stones per night could only be considered mid-range at Baixian Pavilion. The five were assigned to five rooms in the middle section of the first floor.
The second and third floors offered broader views and were thus more expensive. Guests who could afford to stay on these floors not only had profound cultivation but also considerable wealth; ordinary grassroots cultivators could hardly afford to stay at Baixian Pavilion.
Once in their rooms, the five finally settled down. They briefly exchanged nods before returning to their own rooms to sleep.
The rooms were lined up next to each other. By noon, Xu Feng had already woken up; he felt fine and was full of energy after just a short rest. In contrast, his neighbor had hardly slept at all and was sitting cross-legged on the bed as soon as he entered the room.
Cultivators have far less urgent need for sleep than ordinary people. As their cultivation improves, the concept of sleep gradually fades away. Cultivators reverse their fate; their bodily functions cannot be judged by common standards.
Meditating to absorb Earthly Spirit Qi to nourish oneself is naturally much more effective than eating or sleeping. However, cultivators at the Refining Qi Stage have not yet shed their mortal forms and are still subject to aging and illness, so eating and sleeping remain essential methods for maintaining health.
As evening approached, Xu Feng noticed that Xufeng and the others still hadn't made any moves. Strangely enough, no servants from Baixian Pavilion came to knock on their doors to ask if they needed anything. Xu Feng's stomach growled with hunger; that bottle of Pill of Hunger Suppression smelled odd and didn't resemble chocolate at all—after sniffing it, he put it back down.
He pushed open his door and encountered a servant coming toward him. Upon seeing this servant, Xu Feng realized that even an ordinary servant at Baixian Pavilion was above the First Layer of Qi Refinement. He couldn't help but feel embarrassed; it seemed he was only at the level of a servant here.
"I'm hungry," Xu Feng said in a very modern manner.
The servant paused for a moment, clearly taken aback by this somewhat rustic expression. He quickly regained his composure and replied, "If you wish to dine, please go to Room Seven in the west wing; that is Baixian Pavilion's Delicious Hall. It has some of the finest delicacies in Xian City. You can eat whatever you desire." The servant spoke with utmost sincerity.
Xu Feng had never been treated like a fool in his past life; he would never dare to eat carelessly.
He glanced around at Xufeng and the others, who had already gotten up but were still meditating to recover. After the calamity of Qinghua Gang, all four of them had sustained varying degrees of injuries, and the subsequent night of fleeing had taken a significant toll on their stamina.
Xu Feng didn’t greet anyone and simply asked a servant for directions to Delicious Hall, then strolled over leisurely. Along the way, he encountered several cultivators coming and going, each at different levels of cultivation. Without a doubt, Xu Feng was at the bottom tier among them, which made him break into a cold sweat.
It was just getting dark, and there were quite a few cultivators dining at Delicious Hall, around forty or fifty people. The hall was spacious and open, with numerous windows that offered beautiful views of the lake, making one feel refreshed.
Most of the dining cultivators were strangers to each other, sitting apart and enjoying their own meals. Some familiar faces gathered together to drink and discuss matters, but their voices were kept low; the quality of these cultivators was commendable.
Xu Feng found a seat and sat down. A servant with slightly higher cultivation than him approached, saying, “Friend, here’s the menu. If you need anything, feel free to call me.” The servant was about to leave.
“Wait a moment,” Xu Feng called out to the servant. “I’ll order soon.”
He opened the menu and immediately gasped in surprise. Aside from a few ordinary meat dishes, everything else was made from first-grade or higher spirit beast meat, with each dish priced at over ten spirit stones.
“Azure Bull Soup,” Xu Feng said, forcing himself to remain calm.
“Oh, I’m sorry, we don’t have that,” the servant replied apologetically.
“Hmm,” Xu Feng felt inexplicably relieved upon hearing this. He pointed to an ordinary meat dish priced at five spirit stones and said, “Then I’ll have this Pig Trotter.”
“Uh…” The servant hesitated again and said, “We don’t have that either.”
“This one should be available!” Xu Feng was starting to lose his composure. If even the cheaper dishes were unavailable, did they think he was a fool? But seeing the servant's troubled expression made it clear he wasn’t trying to deceive him like those in Sanya.
Looking back at the other diners, Xu Feng noticed that a large portion of them had ordered the two dishes he had just seen, likely because there were many low-spending customers, and the stock had been cleared out.
Xu Feng ordered another dish at the same price point as the Azure Bull Soup, and this time, to his relief, it actually arrived. The waiter acknowledged him and hurriedly left the table, feeling a bit embarrassed.
The diners were all subtly concealing their own strength, but even so, Xu Feng still felt considerable pressure. If it were against Jian Zui Ge or Freckled Man, Xu Feng believed he could still hold his own and potentially win. However, in Baixian Pavilion, he immediately sensed his own inadequacies.
As he pondered how to accelerate his cultivation progress, two powerful cultivators not far away suddenly put down their utensils and glared at each other.
"Huo Qianli Han Qian, right? I've been looking for you for a long time," said a cold voice from a cultivator carrying a Red Silk Broadsword.
"Too many people are looking for me," sneered the disheveled Han Qian. "I've been alive, waiting for you all to come."
"Tomorrow at dawn, outside Baixian Pavilion!" The Red Silk Blade challenged.
"I'll be waiting!" Han Qian replied defiantly.
