The director was very displeased. He glared at me fiercely and asked, "Why didn't you answer the phone?" I looked at him and replied, "Because I had it on silent." The director continued to glare at me, gritting his teeth. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?" I shook my head and said, "I didn't." The director glared at me as if he wanted to devour me. The homeroom teacher stood up and tried to mediate, saying, "Alright, alright, since we're here, let's get started."
I looked at him and asked, "Start what?" The director replied, "The speech representing the school." I looked at him and asked, "What representation?" The director answered, "School representation." I continued to play dumb, asking, "Which school?" The director finally couldn't hold back. He glared at me and asked, "Jiang Ming, are you deliberately causing trouble?" I looked at him and remained silent. The director was exasperated. He glared at me and threatened, "Let me tell you, you must go on stage for this speech; otherwise..." I interrupted him. I looked at him and asked, "Otherwise what?" The director replied, "Otherwise you can forget about keeping your rank as the top student." I looked at him and asked, "What do you mean?"
The director of education sneered and replied, "If you don't behave, we'll lower your grades."
I blinked and asked, "How will you do that?"
The director answered, "We'll drop your ranking to the very bottom."
I widened my eyes, looking at him in disbelief.
The director looked pleased with himself.
He stared at me and asked, "So? Are you scared now?"
I looked at him without saying a word.
The director continued to gloat.
He looked at me and asked, "Why aren't you speaking? Are you afraid?"
I looked back at him and asked, "Are you guys involved in some shady dealings?"
The director was taken aback.
He looked at me, stammering.
"What... what do you mean?"
I replied, "I mean, with you being so blatant about cheating, aren't you afraid of getting caught?"
The director sneered again and said, "Who could catch us?"
I responded, "The surveillance cameras."
The director scoffed.
He asked me, "Are there any cameras here?"
I blinked and looked around.
In the corner, a camera was operating.
I pointed to the camera and said, "Isn't that a surveillance camera?"
The director was left speechless.
He glared at me and replied, "You talk too much."
The homeroom teacher walked over and said, "Alright, alright, let's not waste time. Go wait backstage."
I looked at him and asked, "What should I give my speech about?"
The homeroom teacher replied, "Anything."
I looked at him again and asked, "Really?"
He nodded and answered, "Really."
I looked at him and said, "Then I will give a speech on 'On the Professional Ethics of Teachers.'"
The homeroom teacher was taken aback.
He stared at me and asked, "What did you say?"
I repeated, "On the Professional Ethics of Teachers."
The homeroom teacher's expression changed dramatically.
He glared at me fiercely and threatened, "Jiang Ming, don't go too far."
I looked at him and asked, "How am I going too far?"
The homeroom teacher replied, "Your speech topic is excessive."
I looked at him and asked, "Why is it excessive?"
He responded, "Because..."
At this point, he suddenly stopped.
He glared at me as if he wanted to devour me.
The director of education came over and intervened, saying, "Alright, alright, let's not argue. Jiang Ming, as long as you obediently go on stage to give your speech, I'll give you a guaranteed admission spot."
I looked at him and asked, "Really?"
The director nodded and replied, "Really."
The homeroom teacher looked at me and begrudgingly said, "Are you satisfied now? Can you go wait backstage obediently?"
I looked at him and smiled slightly.
"Of course—"
The homeroom teacher and the guidance counselor both laughed.
