After getting vaccinated at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Lu Hao offered Li Ting an Amulet, hoping that she would have a safe and smooth year ahead. Li Ting accepted the gift and expressed her gratitude. Lu Hao explained that he received it from his mother, as they had many relatives at home, resulting in a lot of such Amulets. Li Ting was surprised and touched by Lu Hao's thoughtfulness and care.
On their way back, the two chatted about their families and past experiences. "How many people are there in your family?" Li Ting asked. "Five," Lu Hao replied. "Oh," Li Ting nodded. "What about you?" Lu Hao inquired. "Four," Li Ting said. "What do your parents do?" Lu Hao asked again. "My dad is a university professor, and my mom is a high school teacher," Li Ting answered. "Then you must have good grades," Lu Hao remarked. "I guess so," Li Ting smiled, "but I caught a cold during the college entrance exam, so I didn't perform well and ended up at Jiangcheng University."
"You still did that well despite being sick?" Lu Hao exclaimed in surprise. "I could have done better," Li Ting sighed. "That's indeed unfortunate," Lu Hao said. Li Ting glanced at him, "But I'm also quite grateful." "Why's that?" Lu Hao asked, puzzled. "Because I met you at Jiangcheng University," Li Ting said with a smile. Lu Hao was taken aback, his face slightly reddening. Realizing her words sounded a bit ambiguous, Li Ting quickly clarified, "What I mean is, I'm really happy to have met a friend like you."
"I feel the same way," Lu Hao said softly.
The two exchanged smiles, and the atmosphere became more relaxed.
In the evening, Li Ting invited Lu Hao and her roommate to dinner to thank him for helping her order takeout earlier. Lu Hao readily agreed.
Li Ting paid the bill in advance to prevent Lu Hao from insisting on paying again.
After dinner, Lu Hao walked them back to their dormitory, chatting with Zhang Qian and the others along the way, creating a very harmonious atmosphere.
"Li Ting, I think Lu Hao definitely has feelings for you," Zhang Qian said, linking her arm with Li Ting's and speaking quietly.
"Why do you say that?" Li Ting asked, puzzled.
"When he looks at you, his gaze is very gentle, and he is quite considerate," Zhang Qian replied. "He must like you."
"Don't say that randomly," Li Ting frowned.
"I'm not saying it randomly," Zhang Qian insisted. "If you don't believe me, ask Xiao Mei and Xiao Min; they must have noticed it too."
Li Ting hesitated. Although she sensed that Lu Hao treated her differently, she wasn't sure if it was romantic interest. Maybe it was just concern between friends? She didn't want to overthink it.
"Alright, stop thinking about it," Zhang Qian said, patting her shoulder. "Anyway, you've already received the Amulet; this year will definitely be safe and smooth for you."
"Yeah," Li Ting smiled and didn't dwell on it further.

On New Year's Day, Li Ting and her roommate planned to go to the outskirts of the city to watch the fireworks display. However, they didn't expect such a large crowd that day; they could hardly squeeze in and had to stand by the river to watch instead.
At nine o'clock in the evening, the fireworks show began. The dazzling fireworks lit up the night sky and also illuminated Li Ting's face.
"So beautiful!" Xiao Mei couldn't help but exclaim.
"Yeah," Xiao Min agreed, "it's so beautiful!"
Li Ting looked at the fireworks in the night sky, her heart also illuminated.
At that moment, her phone suddenly rang.
She took it out and saw that it was Lu Hao calling.
She hesitated for a moment before answering the call.
"Hello?" she said, holding the phone to her ear.
"Li Ting, Happy New Year!" Lu Hao's cheerful voice came through.
"Happy New Year!" Li Ting replied with a smile.
"Where are you?" Lu Hao asked.
"I'm watching the fireworks in the suburbs with my roommates," Li Ting answered.
"Why did you go so far on such a cold day?" Lu Hao said.
"Because it's beautiful," Li Ting said with a laugh.
"When will you be back?" Lu Hao asked again.
"It should be soon," Li Ting checked the time, "it ends at ten-thirty."
"Then I'll come pick you up," Lu Hao said.
"No need," Li Ting quickly refused, "we can just take a taxi back."
"It's late, and it's not safe for you girls," Lu Hao insisted, "I'll come pick you up."
Li Ting hesitated for a moment, "Well... okay, thank you."
"You're welcome," Lu Hao smiled, "see you later."
"Yeah, see you later." Li Ting hung up the phone.
