The property manager widened her eyes, "How is that possible! The cleaning lady has a key. If she wanted to take your things, she could just open the door and come in; why would she sneak around?"
Our building is specifically rented out to students, and the once-a-month cleaning service is a benefit provided by the owner. The cleaners are fixed, and their cleaning schedule is also set. This month's cleaning time hasn't arrived yet; they have only cleaned the hallways.
Li Yu sneered, "So you mean that the only person who could have stolen my perfume must be someone from inside the rental?"
The property manager distanced herself from the issue, "I never said that. I just think it's normal for you girls to have some friction. It's better to resolve these little matters on your own."
Li Yu said, "Then let's check the surveillance footage. If there's nothing wrong with it, I'll just consider myself unlucky."
The property manager got angry, "Why can't you understand what I'm saying? Anyway, you can go watch it yourselves; you'll see whether I'm right or not."
The surveillance administrator was quite cooperative and quickly pulled up the video footage. They skimmed through it quickly; aside from the usual activity times, they found nothing unusual.
The property manager smugly said, "See? I told you there was nothing to see. I warned you long ago that no one else goes into the rental. You should just handle this matter yourselves." With that, she swayed her hips and walked away.
On the way back, all four of us fell silent. As soon as we entered the rental, Li Yu rushed to search her desk drawer.
I stopped Liu Yu and Zhang Xin from going in.
Liu Yu asked me, "What's going on?"
I blinked and replied, "Don't worry; you'll find out soon."
"Wait, I found evidence." Li Yu took out two bottles of perfume and placed them in front of us.
Zhang Xin looked puzzled, "What evidence?"
"What do you think? Of course, it's the thief who stole my perfume."
Zhang Xin's expression darkened: "So you insisted on checking the surveillance?"
Li Yu nodded, "That's right."
"Why?" Zhang Xin asked.
I smiled, "Of course, it's to make you nervous and reveal your true self."
Zhang Xin's face turned pale, "Do you think I stole it?"
I picked up my phone from the bed, "It's not a matter of thinking; you did steal it."
I opened the video, showing Zhang Xin fidgeting at the table.
"Li Yu and Liu Yu are both out; only you had the chance to put the perfume on Li Yu's desk," I said.
Zhang Xin stared intently at the screen, and suddenly, she burst out laughing.
"Is this the evidence you’re talking about?" she asked.
Li Yu was furious, "What do you mean? Are our eyes blind?"
Zhang Xin laughed maliciously, "I didn't say that. I just want to point out that your so-called evidence is merely my casual action."
Li Yu was so angry that sweat broke out on her forehead, "What nonsense are you talking about? You admitted it yourself; what else is there to argue?"
"When did I admit anything? I just used a phone charger," Zhang Xin blinked innocently.
"You..." Li Yu was so furious she couldn't speak.
I replayed the video in disbelief; Zhang Xin's actions indeed looked more like using a phone charger than stealing something.
"You have your own charger, and they have theirs; why would you specifically use mine?"
Li Yu was so angry she almost laughed, "Zhang Xin, do you think we're fools?"
Zhang Xin remained calm, "I never said that. I just want to tell you that I didn't steal your perfume; don't slander me."
"I’m slandering you? It looks like you're guilty and trying to frame us!"
Zhang Xin smiled, "Who is trying to slander whom? You three teamed up to isolate me."
