I hid in the fake cave, unwilling to come out.
Xiao Yi only realized I was missing when he was about to fall asleep. He took a lantern and personally came out to look for me.
Xiao Yi stood in front of me with the lantern in hand. Without any mercy, he grabbed the back of my neck and pulled me out.
"Qian Qian, how old are you?"
"Still running around like a child, not caring that it's late and the dew is heavy."
"Why are you still crying?"
I lowered my head, looking at his shoes embroidered with cloud patterns.
"When I was six years old, my mother died in front of me."
"She drank poisoned soup, and as she died, she kept saying sorry to me."
"She said she shouldn't have left me behind, shouldn't have let me face all this alone."
"I live every day in guilt and regret."
"I bring you medicine every day, but that medicine is all poison."
"I am a sinner."
I lowered my head, tears streaming down my face.
Xiao Yi remained silent for a long time before finally speaking: "You were six at that time?"
I nodded.
Xiao Yi didn't say anything more. I looked up at him and saw his expression was cold, his brows and eyes filled with indifference.
"My neck hurts, my legs are numb, I can't walk anymore."
Xiao Yi raised an eyebrow.
"So what?"
I was taken aback, feeling a bit wronged. What was wrong with him today? He usually wouldn't treat me like this. I lowered my head and said nothing.
However, Xiao Yi bent down and picked me up.
"Hold on to me."
I stared at him, somewhat taken aback.
"I asked you to hold me."
Instinctively, I wrapped my arms around his neck.
He held me as he walked forward step by step.
This was a rare moment when he didn't tease me.
Along the way, he patiently asked me questions.
He asked how I was doing in the the Qian Family, how I survived through the chaos of war.
I lowered my head, unsure of what to say.
"I..."
I opened my mouth but didn't know what to say.
In the end, I simply whispered, "I'm a detestable person."
"You will abandon me sooner or later."
Xiao Yi looked at me seriously and said, "Since you have fallen into my hands, you will be under my protection in the future."
"You will live a life of peace and prosperity."
I looked into his eyes, and something in my heart began to take root and sprout.
I thought to myself that I liked Xiao Yi.
But the more I liked him, the more painful my past became.
I lowered my head, feeling a bit sad.
Suddenly, Xiao Yi hugged me and headed outside.
"Come on, I'll take you to the Lantern Market."
I was taken aback for a moment and instinctively asked, "Now?"
Xiao Yi nodded.
"Yes, now."
He first took me for a stroll down the street and bought me a lantern.
I held the lantern and followed him as we walked ahead.
We stopped in front of a Peking Opera theater.
Xiao Yi took my hand and let me sit beside him.
"This Peking Opera is good; give it a listen."
Upon hearing this, I began to listen attentively.
When I finished listening and turned to look, Xiao Yi was gone. I was taken aback for a moment and got up to search for him.
“Xiao Yi!”
“Xiao Yi!”
I waited in place for a long time, but he did not return. I cursed him silently for being irresponsible and leaving me alone here. Holding the lantern, I wandered aimlessly down the street.
“Zhongshan Consort.”
Hearing this, I turned to see a familiar mask.
“Luo Yu?”
I was momentarily stunned.
“What are you doing here?”
“Aren't you supposed to be in your fief?”
“Princess, I was entrusted by the prince to bring you to him.”
I looked at Luo Yu and took a step back.
“The prince cannot return to the capital without an edict.”
“You're quite bold.”
Luo Yu looked at me and chuckled softly.
“Princess, do you think the prince would kill me for you?”
I glared at him, feeling a bit annoyed. Luo Yu looked at me and said, “Follow me.”
After hesitating for a moment, I decided to follow him. Luo Yu led me across a wooden bridge, and finally, I saw Xiao Yi.
