At the end of June, Li Ting took the high-speed train back to school from her hometown. However, her father accidentally bought a ticket to Jiangcheng Station. Jiangcheng is nearly a two-hour train ride from Creek City, which wouldn't have been a problem under normal circumstances. But on that day, South Bridge experienced a torrential downpour, and when Li Ting exited the station, the rain was so heavy that she could barely see ten meters ahead. 0

She stood in the square outside the station waiting for a ride-share car. After five attempts to get a driver, each time the driver either took a detour, refused to pick her up, canceled the order, or ended up going elsewhere. As it neared seven o'clock, Li Ting couldn't afford to wait any longer and reluctantly opted for a carpool. 0

The first half of the carpool went smoothly; she chatted with a female alumna who was traveling with her. However, halfway through, the alumna got out of the car, leaving Li Ting alone with another boy who was wearing a mask and holding a black umbrella. They sat in silence until they approached Jiangcheng University, when the boy suddenly asked the driver, "Excuse me, isn't this the wrong way?" 0

"The bridge ahead is flooded," the driver replied without turning around. "We have to take a detour." 0

The boy frowned but didn't say anything further. Li Ting was already on edge and felt even more anxious; she quietly took out her phone to send a message to her roommate. 0

Li Ting: Help! My dad bought the wrong ticket! I'm just now taking a car back to school from Jiangcheng Station! It's raining heavily outside, and I'm scared! 0

Xiaomei: ...What happened? Are you in a regular taxi? 0

Li Ting: It's a ride-share. 0

Xiaomei: ... 0

Li Ting: Help! I'm so scared! 0

Xiaomei: ...Don't be scared. Can you share your location with me? I'll come find you. 0

Li Ting: I'm in the car; I don't know where I am outside. 0

Xiaomei: ...Then keep the dashcam on; if anything happens, there will be evidence. 0

Li Ting: Okay. 0

Li Ting pretended to play with her phone while secretly turning on the dashcam and typed back: 0

Li Ting: But I'm still scared. 0

Xiaomei: ...What are you afraid of? 0

Li Ting: What if the driver is a human trafficker? 0

Xiao Mei: ... 0
Xiao Mei: ... You pretend to take a phone call later, saying you have to go for a boxing match, to scare him a bit. 0
Li Ting: Huh? 0
Xiao Mei: ... Just say that, the guy is out fighting now and will be back later. 0
Li Ting: ... 0
Li Ting felt it was unreliable, but still obediently waited for a moment, then pretended to answer the phone: "Hello? Oh, it's me. The match is at nine-thirty, right? Okay, okay, I'm on my way. What? I got injured last week? It's just a minor injury, no big deal, it won't affect the match." 0
As she spoke, she secretly glanced at the driver's reaction. 0
The driver was indeed drawn in by her voice and looked at her through the rearview mirror. 0
Seeing it worked, Li Ting continued, "Alright, alright, I have to go now, I'm almost at school, I'll hang up." 0
After hanging up the phone, she turned to look out the window. 0
Outside, it was still pouring rain; occasionally a vehicle passed by, fleeting like a flash. 0
Li Ting typed a message to her roommate: 0
Li Ting: Xiao Mei, I'm almost at school. Why don't you wait for me at the school gate? 0
Xiao Mei: ... Okay. 0
Li Ting put away her phone and continued observing the scene outside the car window. 0
The car drove down a dimly lit long street; the shops on both sides were already closed, and besides the noise from passing cars, there was no other sound. 0
After a moment longer, the car finally turned onto a familiar street. 0
Li Ting sighed in relief and turned to the driver: "Driver, I've arrived; just stop at that intersection ahead." 0
The driver nodded and pulled over to the side of the road. 0
When Li Ting got out of the car, she was a bit flustered and even forgot to close the door. 0
She waved goodbye to the driver as a thank you and then dashed through the rain towards the dormitory building not far away. 0
The driver turned the car around and prepared to leave. 0
A boy in the back seat who had been resting with his eyes closed opened them and glanced at the empty seat beside him, where a stack of books and a campus card were scattered. 0

The boy casually picked up a card and took a glance at it. On the card, a girl was smiling brightly, and her name was written as "Li Ting," with the student ID "201914101136." He raised an eyebrow, recalling the girl's performance in the car earlier, and couldn't help but chuckle softly. 0
