In the evening, I advanced a month's salary. Together with the money lent to me by Xiao Rou and Xiao Huaiyuan, I finally gathered five hundred thousand. I followed the manager into the private room. When I saw Yan Chao's figure, I instinctively turned to escape. The manager grabbed my arm and whispered, "Why are you running?"
I gritted my teeth and replied quietly, "I saw my ex-boyfriend, and it makes me uncomfortable." The manager followed my gaze and smiled. "He's one of our major clients; you need to perform well." "How about this, you sit next to him."
I steeled myself and sat beside Yan Chao. He had a blank expression, as if he didn't recognize me at all. At the dining table, everyone was chatting happily, while I sat there feeling gloomy. I mechanically picked at my food and ate. Suddenly, the manager spoke up: "Xiao Li, please raise a toast to manager Yan."
I instinctively frowned. But out of concern for appearances, I still lifted my glass and looked at Yan Chao. " manager Yan, I toast to you." Yan Chao raised his glass and clinked it with mine. He tilted his head back and drank it all in one go. I had no choice but to finish the drink in my glass as well. After that first drink, things spiraled out of control as everyone took turns toasting me.
My stomach was burning, and I felt miserable. I rushed to the bathroom and vomited until I felt dizzy. When I came out, Yan Chao was smoking in the hallway. He saw me and frowned slightly.
"How could you drink so much?" he asked.
I replied coldly, "It's none of your business."
Yan Chao narrowed his eyes. "Li Wei, do you really have to talk to me like that?"
I looked at him and asked, "How do you want me to talk to you?"
"Yan Chao, do you particularly dislike me?"
"If you can't stand me, then just leave me alone."
"You torment me while pretending to care about me. Don't you think that's disgusting?"
Yan Chao stared at me without saying a word. I turned to leave, but he grabbed my wrist.
"Li Wei, I told you, you don't have the right to choose."
"Now, you can only obediently listen to me."
I scoffed, "Listen to you? Like being your lover?"
Yan Chao pulled me into a corner of the hallway. It was secluded here; usually, no one would come by. He pinned me against the wall and held my chin.
"Li Wei, when you talk to me like this, it makes me feel like you still love me."
"Love to the point of being unable to extricate yourself, which is why you hate me."
I sneered, "Don't flatter yourself."
Yan Chao smirked, his smile devilish.
"Is that so?"
"Then why have you been staring at me?"
"Have you forgotten? It was I who helped pay off the high-interest loan your boyfriend owes."
"Don't you think you should give me something in return?"
I glared at him. "What do you want?"
The corners of Yan Chao's mouth lifted.
"What do you think?"
With that, he leaned down and kissed me.
I struggled desperately.
But the more I fought, the more excited he became.
In that moment, I felt despair.
I knew I had fallen into Yan Chao's trap again.
This fever came on too suddenly.
I curled up under the blanket, shivering.
Outside, the north wind howled.
In my dreams, it seemed I had returned to a few years ago.
Back then, Yan Chao's parents had not yet moved away.
I lay on Yan Chao's back and weakly asked, "What if I die, Yan Chao?"
Carrying me, Yan Chao took one step after another.
He gently comforted me, "Don't say such things; it's just a fever. You'll be fine after the injection."
I wrapped my arms around his neck and buried my face in his shoulder, mumbling,
"I keep getting fevers lately; what if one day I just die like this..."
