After an afternoon of studying, I finally made my first dish of Thai Cuisine—Green Curry Chicken. Looking at the oddly colored thick liquid in the pot, I felt a wave of anxiety wash over me.
"Is this really your Green Curry Chicken?" Somchai looked at the "dark cuisine" in the pot, his expression hard to describe.
I smiled awkwardly and explained, "It's my first time making it, I don't have much experience. The taste should be okay, right?"
Somchai skeptically scooped up a spoonful of the sauce and carefully placed it in his mouth. The next second, his eyes widened in shock, and he wore an expression of utter astonishment.
"Wow! Li Qiang, you are amazing!" Somchai put down the spoon and gave me a thumbs up. "This is the best Green Curry Chicken I've ever had!"
I looked at Somchai in disbelief, suspecting he was just trying to comfort me since the dish's appearance was far from appealing.
"Really?" I asked tentatively.
"Of course it's true!" Somchai said earnestly. "Although it doesn't look great, the taste is truly remarkable! You're simply a genius!"
Somchai's wife and children nodded in agreement, their enthusiasm and sincerity made me believe that my cooking skills had indeed earned their approval.
The affirmation from Somchai's family gave me immense confidence. I decided to keep pushing forward and continue learning Thai Cuisine, aiming to create dishes that would satisfy Principal Manee.
"Somchai, I suddenly have an idea." I put down the spatula and turned to Somchai, excitement gleaming in my eyes.
"What are you thinking?" Somchai asked curiously.
"I heard that the school is going to hold an International Food Festival next month, and I want to sign up. What do you think?" I said excitedly.
Somchai pondered for a moment and replied seriously, "That's a great idea! You can use this opportunity to showcase your cooking skills and promote Chinese culinary culture—it's a win-win!"
"That's what I was thinking too!" I said enthusiastically, "But I don't know enough about Thai cuisine, and I need your advice."
"No problem!" Somchai readily agreed, "I know many chefs specializing in Thai cuisine and can introduce you to them to help improve your cooking skills."
"That's great! Somchai, you're truly my good brother!" I said gratefully.
And so, I began preparing for the International Food Festival. With Somchai's help, I learned various cooking techniques of Thai cuisine and tried to incorporate elements of Chinese dishes to create unique fusion recipes.
I immersed myself in the kitchen every day, studying recipes and experimenting with different ingredients and seasonings, constantly improving my cooking skills. Somchai acted like an experienced strategist, offering me advice and providing various support.
With dedication and effort, my cooking skills improved dramatically over time, and the dishes I created became increasingly delicious. Somchai's family often became my taste testers, praising each new dish I made, which boosted my confidence even more.
"Li Qiang, are you really ready?" On the day of the competition, Somchai looked at me with anticipation in his eyes.
