At the same time, Lin Feng also understood some things that he had never been able to comprehend before. He realized why Xie Wanting was so concerned about a job at just the beginning of her sophomore year; it turned out she needed money.
According to Grandma Wang, Lin Feng estimated that she must have known about this before, but she simply hadn't told him.

However, Lin Feng was too late with his response because someone had already rushed out of the house. This must be Xiao Niu, whom Grandma Wang had called.

Although he was called Xiao Niu, Lin Feng felt that he should be a year or two older than himself. He was quite sturdy and about the same height as Lin Feng, but he gave off a much stronger impression and looked rather simple-minded; no wonder he was called Xiao Niu.
"This is Xie Wanting's boyfriend from next door. Since Xie Wanting's mother has arrived and he doesn't know the way, I need to accompany him," Grandma Wang explained.
"Oh, Xie Wanting's boyfriend! Welcome! Grandma, you're getting old; it's about time for you to rest. How about this: you stay here, and I'll accompany Brother Lin Feng. You can go tomorrow if you want," Xiao Niu said warmly as he extended his hand to Lin Feng in greeting.
"You rascal! It's rare for the child to have such good intentions. What's wrong with me accompanying him? By the way, there's no need to prepare a vehicle; this child drove here himself. Just look at that car; it's much sturdier than Old Liu's tricycle," Grandma Wang said. Having lived in the village her whole life and rarely going out, she compared Lin Feng's car with the tricycle and realized that it indeed looked much more solid.
"Grandma Wang, I didn't know Xiao Niu was here earlier. Look, let me trouble Xiao Niu this time; you just rest. Tomorrow, I'll come pick you up again, okay?" Lin Feng understood Xiao Niu's intention of not wanting his grandmother to tire herself out and spoke up.
Since he now knew that Xiao Niu was there to guide them, there was no need to trouble the elderly woman any further.
"Alright then. Xiao Niu, since Lin Feng isn't familiar with our area, you stay at the hospital tonight and help him with whatever he needs. You're just idling at home anyway," Grandma Wang agreed since Lin Feng had spoken up but still reminded Xiao Niu.
"Got it! Grandma, I've already prepared the foot-soaking water and checked the temperature; it's just right. Let me tell my mom; I'll go with Brother Lin Feng now," Xiao Niu said enthusiastically and immediately took action upon Grandma Wang's instructions.
Watching how filial Xiao Niu was towards Grandma Wang reminded Lin Feng of his own grandmother. Before Lin Feng turned seven, it was his biological grandmother who raised him, so among his relatives, his grandmother left the deepest impression on him.
"Thank you very much, Xiao Niu." Coming back to reality from his thoughts, Lin Feng expressed his gratitude to Xiao Niu again.
"Hi, what's this? Grandma, we're leaving now." Little Niu was also someone who acted decisively, showing a bit of a military demeanor as he headed towards Lin Feng's car.
"Goodbye, Grandma Wang. Please get some rest early," Lin Feng greeted Grandma Wang as well.
"Haha... I got it, drive safely," Grandma Wang waved her hand at Lin Feng and Little Niu with a smile.
What a warm-hearted old lady, Lin Feng thought as he opened the car door.
Little Niu got in the car and said to Lin Feng, "Brother Lin Feng, why don't you let me drive? It's quite troublesome to give directions."
"Little Niu can drive? Sure, go ahead. Honestly, I'm a bit tired after coming from City B," Lin Feng was both surprised and pleased to hear that Little Niu could drive; surprised that he could actually drive and pleased that he wouldn't have to do it himself.
It wasn't that Lin Feng looked down on Little Niu; he understood very well that in rural areas, very few people could drive. There were two main reasons: first, they couldn't afford a car, and second, they couldn't afford driving lessons. Even if they had the money for lessons, there was no point in learning a skill they wouldn't use—what good was it to learn to drive if there was no car to drive?
"Haha... I drove when I was in the army. Alright then, let's switch seats," Little Niu explained with a silly grin and promptly got out of the car to change seats.
"Oh, so that's how it is," Lin Feng followed him out of the car. He felt that Little Niu was quite compatible with him since they had both been soldiers.
"I haven't driven in a year, but your car is automatic, so it should be easy to handle." After switching seats, Little Niu started the engine while speaking.
Lin Feng agreed with Little Niu's statement; automatics were indeed much easier to handle. However, seeing how skilled Little Niu was made Lin Feng think that he must not have been an ordinary soldier.
As the saying goes, "Amateurs watch the show; experts see the tricks." Just by observing Little Niu's movements and familiarity with driving, Lin Feng could tell that his driving skills were quite impressive.
"I grew up with Xiao Ting. Brother Lin Feng, she's a great girl; you can't let her down," Little Niu said cheerfully despite his silly demeanor.
"Yeah, I know," Lin Feng replied while sweating nervously. Now that Xie Wanting wasn't contacting him anymore, he wanted to make sure not to let her down, but she needed to give him a chance first.
"Haha... I see you're an honest person. I might have talked too much; please don't mind me," Little Niu said with a smile upon seeing Lin Feng nod.
"Ha ha... Little Niu, I like your straightforwardness. I need to trouble you to make a trip tonight; I feel a bit embarrassed about it," Lin Feng said with a smile, appreciating the familiarity.
"Don't say that. A Niu, I may not have Qian Bang's support, but I still have strength. Unlike you, who is putting in both money and effort. You are quite good to Xie Wanting, you know," Little Niu said, giving Lin Feng a thumbs up.
Uh... how did you figure out that I was planning to contribute both money and effort? I didn't say anything. Lin Feng was surprised that Little Niu knew his intentions.
"Ha ha... Brother, you don't need to be surprised. I, A Niu, have some skill in reading people. If you were just planning to go through the motions and leave after taking a look, you wouldn't come here in the middle of the night, right?" A Niu seemed quite confident in his ability to read people and continued analyzing after noticing Lin Feng's surprise.
"Ha ha... I also plan to fulfill my responsibilities as a boyfriend. If I can help, I will; we are all on the same side," Lin Feng laughed, masking his surprise.
He was almost certain that A Niu was not just a low-ranking soldier in the army. A low-ranking soldier wouldn't have such observational skills.
"Alright, we've arrived at the Hospital. I've been here a few times with my grandmother; just follow me," A Niu said as they reached the Hospital and got out of the car.
"Okay." Lin Feng nodded at Little Niu without further politeness and followed him inside.
At that moment, in the hospital room of Xie Wanting's mother, a Nurse was speaking harshly to Xie Fei, who is Xie Wanting's brother: "What do you mean you can't afford to stay here? Your mother has already accrued two days of unpaid fees; she must move out now. Don't occupy someone else's bed."
