"Xiao Wang, this matter is too sudden. Your dad and I need some time to think it over," my mom said hesitantly.
"Mom, you don't need to think about it. I've already made my decision," Chen Wang replied firmly.
"If anyone tries to stop me, I'll have to fight them." His words were filled with threats.
"What are you saying, kid?" My dad coughed in anger.
"That's not what your dad means," my mom quickly reassured him.
"Xiao Wang, I know you like Xiaoqian, but marriage is not a trivial matter. Your dad and I really need to consider this carefully." My mom softened her tone.
"Mom, you don't need to consider it. I've already discussed it with Xiaoqian," Chen Wang insisted.
"Xiao Wang, I know you truly love Xiaoqian, but love alone is not enough for marriage. You're still young, and there are many things you don't understand," my mom tried to persuade him.
"Mom, I've made up my mind. If you don't agree, I'll elope with Xiaoqian," Chen Wang said resolutely.
"You stubborn child... why are you so obstinate?" My dad slammed the table in frustration.
"Dad, I truly love Xiaoqian. I won't marry anyone else for the rest of my life," Chen Wang said seriously.
"Xiao Wang, I understand your feelings," my mom sighed and said, "Since you're so determined, I won't say anything more. You can get married."
Hearing this, Li Qian let out a sigh of relief.
The matter was settled just like that.
At the dinner table, we discussed and decided to hold the wedding in mid-next month. Li Qian was overwhelmed with gratitude, while Chen Wang wore a blissful expression, immersed in the joy of soon becoming a husband.
"Uncle and Aunt, thank you for your support. From now on, I will be your son-in-law," Li Qian said obediently.
My mom smiled and nodded but did not respond. She was aware of the tragedies from the previous generation and firmly refused to let Li Qian change her address.
After dinner, Li Qian volunteered to help wash the dishes. However, my mom deliberately said, "Xiaoqian, you're pregnant; how can I let you do this?"
"I can handle it," Li Qian replied shyly.
"Auntie, it's okay. I often help out at home," she added.
"Mom, just let Xiaoqian wash," Chen Wang chimed in from the side.
Reluctantly, my mom handed the dishwashing task over to Li Qian. She took the dishes and turned to head into the kitchen.
Before long, Chen Wang rushed in. "Xiaoqian, what are you doing?" he asked nervously.
"Washing dishes," Li Qian replied innocently.
"Oh no, you can't wash dishes!" Chen Wang exclaimed with concern. "You're pregnant; what if you hurt the baby?" He then turned to me and said, "Sister, you should wash instead."
"Why should I wash? Xiaoqian volunteered; she has her heart set on it, so how can I refuse?"
I looked innocent.
"Yes, Xiao Wang, Xiaoqian has good intentions, so just let her wash," my mom chimed in.
"This..." Chen Wang hesitated.
"It's fine, Wang Ge, I often wash dishes at home too," Li Qian said gently.
"See, Xiaoqian is so understanding," my mom couldn't help but praise.
Hearing this, Chen Wang immediately smiled.
"Of course, just look at whose wife it is," he said proudly.
"Parents, don't worry, I will definitely work hard in the future. I'll take care of all the chores at home and make sure Xiaoqian doesn't get tired," Chen Wang assured confidently.
"Just you?" I scoffed.
"You don't even wash your own clothes; you just throw your socks there when you take them off. You don't even take out the trash when it's full. How can you be so diligent?"
"Who said that? I'm quite diligent usually," Chen Wang replied defiantly.
"Oh really? Then why don't you go get a rag and wash the dishes now?" I intentionally provoked him.
"Washing dishes is no problem; I'm usually very diligent," Chen Wang said as he actually went to get a rag and started washing the dishes.
