After that, Xi Han's gaze began to focus more and more on me. It was as if there was something about me that piqued his interest. I started to suspect that I was being thoroughly monitored by him. He arranged my work schedule while secretly manipulating my life, leaving me with no way to escape. Every aspect of my life bore his mark. The restaurant I ate at was owned by him. The places I traveled to were also part of his enterprises. Even when I went out for a walk, I could see his shadow.
I had once tried to resist him. I deliberately ignored his calls, refused to meet him, and rejected any form of contact. Yet he still calmly appeared in my life. With the most tranquil tone and the firmest attitude, he pulled me back to his side. I began to realize that his "concern" for me was far from simple affection. There was something chilling hidden in his eyes—a nearly obsessive possessiveness.
In front of him, I felt almost completely exposed. Everything about me was under his control. That feeling made me extremely uneasy. Until one day, I received a call from him.
"Come over for dinner tonight," he said, his tone as calm as ever but laced with an undeniable insistence.
I instinctively wanted to refuse: "Mr. Xi, I..."
"I don't want to hear any refusals," he interrupted with a smile. "You know I dislike being turned down."
I opened my mouth but couldn't find the words. Xi Han chuckled softly, "I'll send the address to your phone."
"See you tonight."
With that, he hung up the phone.
I listened to the busy tone on the phone, feeling a wave of panic inside. The address sent by Xi Han was for his private villa, located on a mountaintop, far from the city. I drove there, and along the way, there was nothing but the mountain breeze. The stars in the sky illuminated the road ahead brightly. For some reason, my heart was racing, filled with a sense of unease.
An hour later, I arrived. Xi Han's villa was hidden among dense trees. It was quiet around, with only the occasional chirping of insects. I got out of the car and walked slowly inside. The villa was warmly decorated. The lighting was not bright but soft. In the living room, there was a bouquet of flowers, and a faint fragrance wafted through the air.
Xi Han came out from the kitchen and smiled when he saw me. "You’re here," he said. "Go wash your hands; dinner is ready." I paused for a moment and quietly replied, "I'm not hungry."
Xi Han's movements paused slightly. He looked at me, his eyes carrying a hint of depth. "Even if you're not hungry, you can still keep me company while I eat," he said. "After all, it's quite boring to eat alone." His tone held a subtle sense of helplessness that caught me off guard. For some reason, at that moment, I felt he seemed a bit lonely.
After a moment of silence, I softly said, "Alright." Xi Han smiled and turned back into the kitchen.
Dinner was lavish, all prepared by Xi Han himself. I was surprised; someone like him, I had thought would always have others serving him. Xi Han looked at me with a smile and said, "Give it a try. It might be better than what you get at restaurants."
I pressed my lips together and picked up a piece of meat to put in my mouth.
It’s very fresh and tender, better than any restaurant I’ve ever been to.
Xi Han looked at me, his gaze deep: “Is it good?”
I instinctively nodded.
Xi Han smiled, his tone confident: “Then I’ll cook for you often in the future.”
I was taken aback and instinctively shook my head: “No need.”
“You don’t have to say that…”
“Why not?”
Xi Han raised an eyebrow, looking at me intently: “I want to treat you well, no reason needed.”
I lowered my eyes, unsure of what to say.
Xi Han's straightforwardness left me at a loss.
This meal made me feel uneasy.
After finishing, I helped Xi Han clear the dishes.
Once done, I planned to leave.
But Xi Han called out to me.
“It’s late, stay here.”
“There are no streetlights down the mountain; it’s unsafe for you to drive alone.”
I hesitated for a moment and said softly, “I can call a taxi.”
Xi Han chuckled lightly: “Do you want others to know you left my place alone at night?”
“Or would you prefer I drive you down and then pick you up again tomorrow morning?”
I fell silent.
Xi Han looked at me, a smile playing on his lips: “Isn’t it nice to stay by my side?”
“I want you to stay by my side forever.”
The possessiveness in his eyes was unmistakable.
