Stepping out of the Sweet Soup Shop, Li Ruyue led him into a nearby alley. Wang Yueming followed her into the back street and suddenly spoke up, "How long do you plan to be so polite with me?"
Li Ruyue paused for a moment but did not turn around. Wang Yueming looked directly into her eyes and said, "You can treat me as a friend."
Li Ruyue forced a smile, "Aren't we friends now?"
"You know that's not what I mean."
Li Ruyue was taken aback and looked up at him. The emotion in Wang Yueming's eyes deepened, "Li Ruyue, don't you really want me to feel sorry for you?"
Li Ruyue remained silent.
Wang Yueming stared at her for a while, his voice dropping, "…Do you really not want to like me anymore?"
Li Ruyue's heart suddenly felt a sharp pain. She couldn't help but frown and instinctively closed her eyes. When she opened them again, everything was dark once more.
Li Ruyue had long been accustomed to this kind of life; even if she suddenly couldn't see, she wouldn't panic. She slowly turned around based on her memory and faced Wang Yueming's voice, softly saying, "Wang Yueming, I really appreciate everything you've done for me. I truly thank you, but I can't like you anymore..."
"Why?"
Li Ruyue couldn't find the words to explain. She pressed her lips together and raised her head again, "What about you? Why do you still come looking for me?"
Wang Yueming fell silent for a moment, his voice slightly hoarse, "…Because I like you."
Li Ruyue's heart suddenly fluttered. A flash of light crossed her vision again.
When Li Ruyue opened her eyes once more, she saw Wang Yueming with red-rimmed eyes, quietly watching her. There were tears shimmering in his gaze.
Li Ruyue's heart tightened suddenly.
She instinctively took two steps forward, reaching out to hug him.
But in the end, she held back.
Li Ruyue clenched her fists, trying to remain calm: "Wang Yueming, I..."
Her voice paused for a moment before she continued, "I like you too."
Wang Yueming's pupils trembled, and emotions surged violently in his eyes.
He could hardly believe his ears: "...What did you say?"
Li Ruyue tightened her grip on her fists, her voice trembling: "I said, I like you too."
Wang Yueming stared at her for a long while before suddenly stepping forward and hugging her tightly.

She reached out and gently embraced him back.
In that moment, Li Ruyue suddenly felt that even if she could never see again, it didn't seem so terrifying anymore.
At least she could still hear Wang Yueming's voice and feel his embrace.

She remembered that day when Li Ruyue returned home; the first thing she did was lie to her mother.
She didn't dare tell her mother that she had been beaten; instead, she said she had accidentally fallen.
Mother Li didn't suspect anything; she only cared whether Li Ruyue was hurt.
Li Ruyue shook her head, saying she had already been to the hospital and that there was nothing serious—she just needed to rest at home for a few days.
Only then did Mother Li feel relieved.
Li Ruyue lay on the sofa, recalling Wang Yueming's words from earlier, unable to suppress her anger.

Li Min, sitting next to her, overheard and leaned in to ask, "Who are you cursing?"

Li Min replied in disbelief, "What does that have to do with me?"
"Of course it has something to do with you! I got hurt while trying to save you."
"…Fine."
Li Ruyue huffed and then asked, "Isn't there going to be a Hundred-Day Oath Ceremony for the seniors? Who from our class is going to give a speech?"
"The class monitor and the Youth League secretary."
"Anyone else?"
"Nope."
Li Ruyue was a bit surprised. "Isn't Wang Yueming going?"
Li Min shook her head. "No."
"Why not?" Li Ruyue asked in confusion. "Isn't he a top student?"
"I don't know. I heard he was originally chosen, but he didn't want to go, so they replaced him with the top student from the liberal arts class."
Li Ruyue responded with an "oh" and didn't ask further. She remembered that Wang Yueming wasn't like this before; now he had become so low-key. But that was his choice. Although Li Ruyue was curious, she wouldn't pry any further.
