Jiangcheng High School is an ordinary high school with average teaching quality. In her first year of high school, due to her father's job relocation, Li Ruyue moved with her family to Jiangcheng. Jiangcheng is located in the north, where winters are dry and cold, and summers are hot. Li Ruyue found it difficult to adapt to this climate, but she persevered.
Not long after starting school, the sports meet took place. Jiangcheng High School's sports meet uses a point system, where each event is scored, and the class with the highest total score is awarded as the outstanding class. Li Ruyue was not feeling well at that time and did not participate in any sports events; instead, she joined her classmates as a cheerleader.
During a break in the competition, Li Ruyue took the opportunity to go to the restroom. She was not familiar with the layout of Jiangcheng High School and wandered around for a while before finding it. When she returned, she was a bit anxious and accidentally missed a step while going down the stairs, causing her to lose balance and fall forward.
At that moment, Li Ruyue's mind went blank, thinking she was about to fall hard. To her surprise, a pair of hands reached out just in time to catch her. Still shaken, she looked up to see a boy standing in front of her. He wore frameless glasses, had handsome features, fair skin, and a tall stature.
"Thank you..." Li Ruyue quickly expressed her gratitude but couldn't help thinking how cold his hands were. The boy smiled and let go of her.
It was then that Li Ruyue noticed he was wearing a black wristband that looked like it was made of cotton but wasn't entirely so. She found this boy quite strange but felt grateful for his help and politely thanked him before leaving.
That was Li Ruyue's first encounter with Wang Yueming; it wasn't particularly pleasant and even felt a bit awkward. Later on, she learned that this boy's name was Wang Yueming, a senior in his third year who served as the student council president. He excelled academically and came from a well-off family, making him one of Jiangcheng High School's most famous handsome boys.
As time went on, Li Ruyue saw Wang Yueming a few more times—sometimes on campus and sometimes at restaurants outside of school. Each time they met, they would exchange a few simple words. Li Ruyue found him quite gentle; although he didn't talk much, he always made her feel comfortable.
What truly made Li Ruyue develop feelings for Wang Yueming was during the midterm exams. She had been feeling unwell already, and coincidentally, it coincided with her menstrual period. In the morning exam, she managed fine, but by the afternoon, she began to feel uncomfortable.
The afternoon exam was Chinese literature. Despite enduring stomach pain while answering questions, she nearly collapsed as she exited the classroom. Leaning against the wall near the classroom door, she spotted Wang Yueming standing there.
Wang Yueming seemed to be waiting for someone. When he saw Li Ruyue come out, he frowned slightly and asked, "Are you not feeling well?"
Li Ruyue didn't want to speak and simply shook her head.
Wang Yueming looked at her pale face and didn't ask any more questions. Instead, he took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
Li Ruyue was taken aback and quickly declined, "No, it's okay, Senior, I'm not cold..."
"Just put it on," Wang Yueming said gently but firmly. "You look unwell. Go back and rest a bit, and you'll feel better tomorrow."
Unable to refuse any longer, Li Ruyue put on Wang Yueming's jacket. It carried a faint hint of mint fragrance, and as she wore it back to the classroom, she felt much more comfortable.
On Sunday evening, I shared about a handsome guy I encountered on the street.
"He was wearing a white hoodie and jeans, and he had long legs."
My deskmate, Li Min, looked at me in shock.
"What did he look like?"
"I didn't get a good look."
Li Min was even more shocked: "You think he's handsome without seeing him clearly?"
"I'm nearsighted."
Li Min was speechless: "Then tell me what features he had."
"He wasn't wearing glasses."
Li Min: "……"
I sighed: "What a pity; such a handsome guy, and I couldn't see what he looked like."
Li Min sighed along with me: "Yeah, such a handsome guy, and you still couldn't see what he looked like."
I looked at her curiously: "You think he's handsome too?"
"Of course," Li Min replied matter-of-factly. "If Wang Yueming isn't handsome, then who is?"
I: "……"
Li Min: "……"
"Who are you talking about?"
"Wang Yueming."
"......"
"Wait, how do you know his name?"
Li Min looked at me with a look of pity on her face. "Sister, we are alumni. How could I not know him?"
I fell silent for a moment. "You're right."
"But," Li Min suddenly thought of something, "how do you know him?"
I blinked. "He lent me his school uniform."
"......"
Li Min's expression was beyond shock; she looked at me with disbelief in her eyes.
"What’s wrong?" I asked.
"You..." Li Min hesitated, choosing her words carefully, "how did you get Wang Yueming to lend you his school uniform?"
"I just asked him to lend it to me."
Li Min: "......"
I felt like she might have misunderstood something. "I didn't mean to; I just happened to forget my uniform."
"I know," Li Min sighed, "I just didn't expect Wang Yueming would lend you his uniform."
I thought for a moment. "Doesn't he usually lend his uniform to others?"
"No," Li Min shook her head, "no one ever asks him for his uniform."
"......"
"Should I be grateful then?"
"Yes," Li Min nodded, "you should be grateful."
