At the entrance of the cave, four distinctly different Robbers were leaning against the wall, loudly discussing and occasionally spouting a few curse words, accompanied by bursts of laughter.
At that moment, a tall Robber with a beefy face frowned and said, "Why hasn't the skinny monkey returned yet? It's been over half an hour; something must have happened."
Another lean Robber replied, "I bet he's just slacking off. We assigned all the work to him alone; he probably feels resentful and is deliberately stalling."
"Yeah, yeah," another Robber chimed in sarcastically, "maybe he's back there cursing us right now, especially you, Liu Ge. I bet he hates you the most since you were the one who suggested he go alone."
"He wouldn't dare!" Liu Ge shot back, glaring with wide eyes. "I gave him work because I thought highly of him. If he dares to complain, just wait until I deal with him and give him a good beating!"
"Who knows? He seems like that kind of person. Usually quiet, but those types are the hardest to guard against. You never know when he might stab us in the back," the Robber continued to stir trouble.
"Damn it, that skinny monkey thinks he can get away with this! Looks like I'll have to teach him a lesson later!" Liu Ge rolled up his sleeves.
The effeminate Robber smiled smugly at his successful provocation; he always enjoyed seeing the skinny monkey suffer because he had offended him over a trivial matter in the past.
The Efficient Bandit shook his head but said nothing; it wasn't his concern.
As for another Robber, he merely laughed along throughout the conversation. His status in this small group was not much better than that of the skinny monkey, so he had to agree with whatever others said; otherwise, he'd be the one in trouble.
At that moment, the skinny monkey walked in from outside carrying a hoe, looking exhausted with mud smeared across his face and his hair matted together.
"Skinny monkey, where the hell have you been? Were you slacking off?" As soon as he entered, the Feminine Bandit shouted at him.
Liu Ge also looked over with an unfriendly expression.
Startled, the skinny monkey's face showed fear as he stammered, "N-no! The soil over there was particularly hard, and there were stones underneath. It was really difficult to dig, so it took me a while."
Liu Ge looked at him suspiciously. "What's wrong with your voice?"
It turned out that the skinny monkey's voice was somewhat hoarse and sounded different from usual.
His expression changed slightly as he awkwardly replied, "I forgot to bring water and sweated a lot; my throat is dry."
"Is it really possible for you to have done this in such a short time?" the Feminine Bandit expressed disbelief.
The Thin Monkey's face grew even more unnatural, and Liu Ge noticed something was off. He demanded, "Quickly tell me what you were doing, or I'll beat you up!"
Upon hearing this, the Thin Monkey became a bit flustered and stammered, "I... when I got there, the sight of those corpses was too horrifying, so I couldn't help but throw up a few times."
As he spoke, it seemed he recalled something else, his face turned pale again, and he looked like he wanted to vomit once more.
"Hahahahaha!" Liu Ge suddenly burst into laughter. "From the looks of you, it seems like it wasn't just a few times of throwing up; you probably even brought up bile! If you're scared, just admit it. It's just a few dead bodies; how could you react like this? And stop making excuses about the mud; it's all red clay over there. Do you think I wouldn't know?"
Seeing that his excuse had been exposed, the Thin Monkey felt a bit embarrassed.
"Alright, get lost and go back to work. Remember, don't even think about reporting us for slacking off; otherwise, you know what will happen to you!"
Knowing he had guessed correctly, Liu Ge felt quite pleased with his own cleverness. After mocking the Thin Monkey for a while, he surprisingly didn't make things difficult for him anymore and waved him off, of course not forgetting to give him a warning.
"Yes, yes, I understand! I won't make things hard for you, Liu Ge!" The Thin Monkey felt as if he had received a great reprieve and quickly nodded in agreement before turning to leave.
The Feminine Bandit felt somewhat dissatisfied that she couldn't see the Thin Monkey being dealt with. However, she dared not oppose Liu Ge's decision and could only harbor her discontent in her heart, planning to find another opportunity to deal with him next time.
What no one saw was the mysterious smile on the Thin Monkey's face as he turned to leave; otherwise, they would have certainly sensed something strange.
Once he turned around a corner, Lufan let out a quiet sigh of relief. In his plan, the most challenging part had just been that encounter.
The four people at the cave entrance were from the same group as the Thin Monkey and were probably the only ones familiar with him. If he could deceive them at close range, then dealing with everyone else would be much easier.
Now, Lufan had successfully infiltrated the cave.
After turning another corner, what lay before Lufan was a vast space filled with bright lights and large buildings within it. This mountain cavity was unexpectedly like a hidden paradise!
Lufan wasn't particularly surprised; he had already learned from the Thin Monkey that this place had been managed by the Lord's Mansion for decades, so its scale was not surprising.
According to what the Thin Monkey said, this cave was divided into four areas: east for hundreds of Robbers' living quarters, west for food and drink storage rooms, north for an armory, and south for kitchens and dining areas.
Lufan found it somewhat strange; it felt like this place was more than just a simple Robbers' den. His intuition told him that the Lord's Mansion had invested so much effort into managing this place for so long not just for robbing some herbs but surely there were more unspeakable secrets hidden here.
Lufan continued walking deeper inside. Ahead, a few Robbers were lazily standing around chatting; this was another group responsible for keeping watch.
However, this was merely a formality. Located deep in the mountains, this area hadn't seen any issues for years, and no one took the watch duty seriously.
Moreover, although these individuals used to be City Guards, after so many years as Robbers, their sense of discipline had long since faded. They only knew how to cut corners and be sly; there was no longer any notion of loyalty or duty.
So when Lufan walked past, the few of them merely glanced at him and then returned to their conversation, recognizing him as someone who had just left not long ago.
Thus, Lufan faced no obstacles on his way, and his target was the place where the Thin Monkey lived.
The Thin Monkey held a low status and wasn't qualified to live in the eastern area; he lived alone in the southern area because he was responsible for cleaning the kitchen and other places every day. He always carried a sour smell with him, making no one want to get close.
This suited Lufan perfectly, as it greatly facilitated his actions, allowing him to go unnoticed no matter what he did.
Soon, Lufan arrived at the Thin Monkey's dwelling. As expected, it was not a good place—narrow and messy, with an unbearable stench that made one feel nauseous.
However, Lufan had no time to dwell on these details. He sat down on the bed and took out a piece of paper that featured a detailed map. This map had been drawn based on what the Thin Monkey had previously described about the layout of the cave.
This paper was also brought by Lufan. His backpack contained all sorts of odd items, and the production room had considered waterproofing from the start. So even after being soaked for such a long time, some things were still usable.
Looking at the map, Lufan fell into deep thought, beginning to contemplate his next plan.
