The heavyset man slowly raised his head, the glow of the setting sun illuminating his somewhat weary face, sweat mingling with dust, leaving streaks across his skin. "Send the orders down. The entire army is to strengthen their vigilance. No one is to act without my command," he said in a low voice, yet it carried an undeniable authority.
"General, do you suspect Huo Qing...?" Cang Feng hesitated, knowing that the heavyset man's concerns were not unfounded; they had all experienced Huo Qing's cunning firsthand.
"Better to believe there is something than to believe there isn't," the heavyset man said, rubbing his temples, a vague sense of unease creeping into his heart. He pointed to a spot on the map representing the imperial army's encampment. "Increase nighttime patrols, especially here. Keep a close watch."
"Understood!" Cang Feng replied and took his leave, aware that the outcome of this battle was far from certain.
As night fell, the imperial camp was brightly lit, soldiers reveling in the joy of victory, completely oblivious to the danger approaching them.
Meanwhile, several miles away in a dense forest, Huo Qing was leading his remnants, lurking in the shadows. Dressed in a black cloak and with his face painted in war paint, only his sharp eyes shone like those of a hawk.
"General, are we really going to launch a night raid on the imperial camp?" one of his deputies asked in a hushed tone, concern evident in his voice.
Huo Qing shot him a cold glance and replied icily, "What? Are you afraid?"
"I wouldn't dare!" The deputy quickly knelt on one knee and lowered his head. "It's just that the imperial army's morale is high; we..."
"If you're afraid of dying, then get lost!" Huo Qing barked. "The word 'fear' has never existed in my dictionary!"
"Yes!" The deputy dared not say more, knowing Huo Qing's temperament; once he made up his mind about something, it would not change easily.
Huo Qing took a deep breath and gazed at the brightly lit imperial camp in the distance, cold killing intent flickering in his eyes.
"Send the order down, conserve strength, and when Midnight arrives, we will charge into the Imperial army camp and leave no one alive!" Huo Qing suddenly drew his sword from his waist, the blade pointing straight at the night sky as if to split the darkness in two.
"Yes!" The deputy commanders responded in unison, their eyes gleaming with a bloodthirsty light. They had followed Huo Qing for many years and were accustomed to this life of bloodshed.
Midnight, a crescent moon hung high in the night sky, draping the earth in a layer of silver gauze.
Huo Qing led his remnants quietly to the outskirts of the Imperial army camp.
"Kill—" With Huo Qing's command, the soldiers who had long been lying in ambush sprang into action like tigers descending a mountain, launching a fierce attack on the Imperial army camp.
The Imperial camp was thrown into chaos, soldiers panicking and fleeing in all directions.
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
"Help! Someone is raiding the camp at night!"
Huo Qing took the lead, his long sword striking like a venomous snake, reaping one life after another. The soldiers behind him were equally fierce, breaking through the Imperial camp like a hot knife through butter.
"Report—" A blood-soaked soldier stumbled into the fat general's tent. "Report... report to the general, Huo... Huo Qing... is leading an army to raid our main camp!"
"What?!" The fat general stood up abruptly, a glint of excitement flashing in his eyes. "Finally here!"
He grabbed the armor hanging on the rack and said in a deep voice, "Send the order down, all troops follow the prearranged plan and engage the enemy!"
"Yes!" Messenger responded and set off.
The fat man stepped out of the large tent, mounted his horse, and gazed at the distant battlefield filled with the sounds of battle cries. A cold smile crept across his lips. "Huo Qing, you are still too inexperienced. This time, you won't be coming back!"
With that, he urged his horse forward, and it let out a neigh as it galloped towards the battlefield.
