She didn't even know where to run now, but her rational mind told her not to stop. That faint remaining sense of reason constantly reminded her to suppress the fear that kept bubbling up inside her.
With one breath, Xia Xiaoyu ran to the bottom of the Teaching Building. She had exhausted her last bit of strength and could no longer run. The Small Grove, which she usually feared the most, was where she found herself alone at midnight, driven by fear.
In the dim darkness, heavy breaths and fear escaped her lips. Xia Xiaoyu felt as if her entire body was covered in wounds. When she finally stopped, a piercing pain shot up from the soles of her feet. Amidst the fear, she couldn't help but grimace in pain.
The night was eerily quiet.
There wasn't a sound; the entire campus was empty. The white cherry blossoms bloomed vividly and strangely in the night, swaying slightly as the night breeze passed through them, almost as if they were beckoning to Xia Xiaoyu.
"Cough cough..."
Suddenly, at that moment, Xia Xiaoyu heard a coughing sound coming from a distance behind her, sending a chill down her spine. She instinctively turned her gaze but saw no one. The night was shrouded in a gray mist that obscured her vision significantly.
However, just as she was about to look away, she caught sight of a vague shadow moving next to the dark Staircase Entrance. Her heart raced again. Xia Xiaoyu dared not move; her eyes revealed fear as she fixed her gaze on the dark corner beside the Teaching Building's Staircase Entrance, which was obscured by walls on both sides and very dark.
Xia Xiaoyu couldn't make out any details, but with the eerie atmosphere surrounding her, she didn't dare to act recklessly. She sensed an unprecedented rhythm in her heart, as if it wanted to leap out of her body.
"It's okay... It's okay..."
Xia Xiaoyu clenched her hands and forcibly reassured herself.
She slowly shifted her footsteps, moving closer to the right spot, and finally caught sight of a figure in the distance. It was a blurry silhouette, but through the dim light, Xia Xiaoyu could make out that it was a man. He was at the Staircase Entrance, constantly groping the ground as if searching for something.
Xia Xiaoyu felt a slight sense of relief upon seeing the figure crouched in the dark corner, hands moving restlessly on the ground. She realized she had been overthinking things.
However, after encountering so many strange occurrences, Xia Xiaoyu did not recklessly approach to take a look. Instead, she remained still in her place, far from the person who had their back turned to her. It seemed like a long time had passed, yet that person did not turn around to look at her.
The entire campus was eerily quiet; the blurred surroundings, the empty playground, and the silent University all contributed to a sense of unease within Xia Xiaoyu. Her heart began to race uncontrollably.
