In the thick of night, a middle-aged woman dressed in dark clothing stood on the rooftop of a building, overlooking the flow of traffic and pedestrians below.
This middle-aged woman was Cheng Shuhua.
A middle-aged man wearing a cap emerged from the Dow Pharmaceuticals Building, accompanied by another middle-aged man in a suit. Cheng Shuhua quickly took a few steps and leaped down from the rooftop.
The man in the cap was Guo Zhuanghuai, and the man in the suit was Pharmacist Sun Puyi, whom Cheng Shuhua intended to assassinate as he was heading to the port to receive goods.
As Guo Zhuanghuai led Sun Puyi around a corner, Cheng Shuhua landed right in front of them.
"Thorned Rose?" Guo Zhuanghuai asked cautiously.
Due to Cheng Shuhua's mask obscuring her face, Guo Zhuanghuai could not recognize her true identity. However, Cheng Shuhua remembered their grievances from seven years ago very clearly.
"That's right! Guo Zhuanghuai, today is your day to die!" Cheng Shuhua drew a long knife from behind her and thrust it toward Guo Zhuanghuai's heart.
Guo Zhuanghuai, unarmed, dodged Cheng Shuhua's attacks time and again while launching counterattacks. Seeing this, Sun Puyi turned to flee but was still struck by Cheng Shuhua's blade on his arm during the fierce battle. Pharmacist Sun Puyi clutched his wound and hurried back into the building.
Guo Zhuanghuai fought fiercely against Cheng Shuhua, matching her blow for blow.
At that moment, at the port, Wang Junpeng was leading a police team in pursuit of sisters Cheng Yuyao and Cheng Yuwan, firing their weapons.
"Sister, where are we going now?" the younger sister Cheng Yuwan asked anxiously.
"We're going to find Mom!"
The Cheng sisters dared not linger for a moment; they swiftly navigated through stacks of goods while bullets occasionally struck nearby.
The Cheng sisters ran toward the port gate. Just as they exited the gate, bullets followed closely behind them. At the same time, they discovered that another police team had blocked their path ahead.
"Little sister, turn around!"
Cheng Yuyao quickly pulled her sister into a passage between two tall buildings. The police team that had chased them out of the port opened fire, and Cheng Yuyao used a black medical kit she had snatched from the dock to block the incoming bullets.
At the end of the passage was a high wall, and the two sisters skillfully climbed over it. Wang Junpeng watched in frustration as the Cheng Sisters escaped right under his nose, angrily pounding his fist against the wall.
The leader of the police team intercepting the Cheng Sisters was named Da Zhuang. He looked bewildered as he asked Wang Junpeng, "Captain, what should we do now?"
"What should we do? Split up and chase! You go that way, I'll go this way!" Wang Junpeng gestured frantically. Soon after, the two teams that had just come together split into left and right groups and chased around the buildings.
The Cheng Sisters ran out from behind a large building. In the distance, they saw Cheng Shuhua fighting Guo Zhuanghuai, clearly at a disadvantage.
Cheng Yuyao shouted, "Mom, we're here!"
The Cheng Sisters drew their short knives and rushed towards Guo Zhuanghuai.
Guo Zhuanghuai grabbed Cheng Shuhua's wrist, which was holding the knife. "Since you've come, let's die together!"
He snatched the long knife from Cheng Shuhua's hand and swung it back at her. Cheng Shuhua hurriedly stepped back just in time to avoid the blow. At that moment, the Cheng Sisters arrived. The three members of the Cheng Family engaged in a fierce battle with Guo Zhuanghuai.
Around the corner to the left, Wang Junpeng led his police team charging out. Guo Zhuanghuai glanced back: there was also a police team blocking their path around the corner to the right.
In the midst of the fight, Guo Zhuanghuai pulled out a glass vial from his pocket and smashed it on the ground with force, instantly releasing a cloud of white smoke. At the same time, he turned around and injured several police officers before making his escape.
"Fall back!" Cheng Shuhua grabbed her two daughters and pulled them forcefully away from the white smoke.
"Retreat!"
Cheng Shuhua shouted sharply, and the three of them, mother and daughters, grabbed the medicine box and used their lightness skills to leap over the rooftops, bypassing the police ahead. The officers quickly turned around and opened fire, but the three women still vanished around the corner.
Wang Junpeng pointed in the direction Cheng Shuhua and her daughters had fled and shouted, "Chase!"
All the police turned around in a chaotic rush. Wang Junpeng impatiently pushed aside the officers blocking his way and pursued Cheng Shuhua and her daughters alone.
Cheng Shuhua urged her two daughters to run forward, but they felt themselves wanting to collapse.

Wang Junpeng emerged from around the corner, followed by a swarm of police.
Cheng Shuhua said to her daughters, "You go ahead; I'll hold them off!"
"Mom!"
Cheng Yuyao and Cheng Yuwan wanted to say something but were interrupted by Cheng Shuhua, "It's fine; I'll catch up soon!"
Cheng Shuhua took the short knife from Cheng Yuyao's hand, while Cheng Yuwan was nearly unconscious in Cheng Yuyao's arms.
"Remember, you must protect your sister's safety."
Cheng Yuyao felt a mix of emotions. In the end, she could only helplessly remind her mother, "Please be careful!"
Cheng Shuhua nodded.
Cheng Yuyao supported Cheng Yuwan as they fled into the distance.
Cheng Shuhua turned around, holding a short knife in each hand, standing in the middle of the road to block Wang Junpeng's path. Wang Junpeng and his police team came to a halt, and the officers behind him quickly raised their rifles.
Wang Junpeng aimed his revolver at Cheng Shuhua, saying, "Thorned Rose, if you make a move, these guns behind me will turn you into a sieve. I advise you to surrender instead of resisting!"
"Surrender? I never surrender to anyone!"
With that, Cheng Shuhua prepared to launch an attack on Wang Junpeng. Just then, a loud voice came from the side.
"Wait!" The speaker was the masked Guo Zhiqian.
Under everyone's gaze, Guo Zhiqian leisurely walked between Wang Junpeng and Cheng Shuhua.
Cheng Yuwan and Cheng Yuyao stopped at the intersection, looked back to confirm that Mother was safe, and then disappeared around the corner.

Guo Zhiqian's statement surprised even Cheng Shuhua.
Wang Junpeng replied, "I don't care whether they are good or bad. My superiors ordered me to arrest her, so I will! You better get out of my way!"

During the struggle, Guo Zhiqian shouted to Cheng Shuhua, "Hurry up and go!"
Cheng Shuhua understood and immediately turned to chase after her daughter. Wang Junpeng was no match for Guo Zhiqian; in frustration, he ordered the police, "What are you waiting for? Go after them!"
As the officers attempted to pursue forward, Guo Zhiqian fired shots at the ground in front of them, causing the leading officers to retreat in fear from the bullets hitting the ground.
"A bunch of useless trash!" An exasperated Wang Junpeng broke free from Guo Zhiqian and chased after Cheng Shuhua, only to be grabbed by Guo Zhiqian again, who pulled him back. Immediately, Guo Zhiqian pressed a gun against Wang Junpeng's head. Wang Junpeng had no choice but to surrender.
"Guo..."
Before Wang Junpeng could finish his sentence, Guo Zhiqian knocked him unconscious with a punch and disappeared around the corner in a few quick strides.
The police officers shouted "Captain" as they rushed towards Wang Junpeng to check on his injuries.
Squad Leader Da Zhuang helped Wang Junpeng up and asked with concern, "Captain, are you okay? Captain!"
Wang Junpeng covered his aching head with his hand and scolded his subordinates angrily, "You bunch of useless fools, you can't even catch three women. What good are you?"

Tao Gongjin was also in the laboratory. He sat nearby supervising the progress of the experiments. This laboratory was one of the assets that Tao Gongjin had established over the past seven years as part of Dow Pharmaceuticals Group. Moreover, it was here that he and Zhang Zhaolin continued the unauthorized "Biological Experiment."
The laboratory was divided into three sections by glass walls, each filled with various chemical equipment and several staff members in white lab coats busy at work. A live rabbit was being held down on an experimental table by a staff member who injected it with a colorless and transparent reagent. The rabbit was then thrown into a cage. It became agitated and began to frantically crash against the walls of the cage. Moments later, it exhausted itself, lay down in the cage, gradually bled from its orifices, and slowly died.
The staff member turned around and shook his head at Tao Gongjin and Sun Puyi. Tao Gongjin disappointedly signaled for the staff member to dispose of the rabbit's corpse. The staff member tossed the dead rabbit into a nearby trash bin filled with the bodies of other deceased rabbits.
Sun Puyi said to Tao Gongjin, "Chairman, have you considered that the failure with the rabbits might be due to their genetic issues? If we were to experiment with a different species, we might get different results."
Tao Gongjin asked him in confusion, "A different species? What kind of species?"
"That's hard to say."
"At this point, you should be bold!"
Sun Puyi hesitated for a moment, lowered his voice, and tentatively said, "Seven years ago, you and the Supreme Commander had already thought about..."
Tao Gongjin raised his hand to stop him, saying, "This is different. Let me think for a moment!"
"Chairman, the 'Thorned Rose' has repeatedly hijacked our supplies, and the reagents available for our experiments are dwindling!" Sun Puyi reminded Tao Gongjin, who was sitting thoughtfully in a rocking chair.

Sun Puyi interjected, "Guo Zhuanghuai, stop complaining. If the young master could help the Chairman, he would have done so already!"
Guo Zhuanghuai angrily sat down on a chair and gulped down a glass of water from the table. "Damn it! Just when I was about to take care of one of them, these useless fools ruined my plans!"
After pondering for a while, Tao Gongjin finally spoke up: "Guo Zhuanghuai, I have a new task for you!"
Guo Zhuanghuai quickly stood up respectfully. "Chairman, what is the task?"
"We don't have much medicine left; we need to conduct human trials. Go capture a few children! The police station isn't taking the 'Thorned Rose' case seriously enough? Guo Zhuanghuai grinned wickedly, revealing his yellow teeth.
When Cheng Shuhua safely returned home, Cheng Yuyao and Cheng Yuwan, both dressed in night gear, were weakly sitting in chairs; Cheng Yuwan had already fainted.

Beside the mirror was a family photo taken seven years ago of Cheng Shuhua, Zhou Junsheng, and their two daughters.
