I squeezed into the crowd with Zhang Qian and saw Yang Bo setting up a fortune-telling booth. Yang Bo was dressed in a black cloak and wore a half mask, exuding an air of mystery.
Zhang Qian said, "Fortune-telling, that looks like fun."
I replied, "Do you want to give it a try?"
"Yes!" Zhang Qian exclaimed.
She sat across from Yang Bo, who spoke in a low, husky voice, "What would you like to ask, young lady?"
"I want to ask about love," Zhang Qian said.
"Give me your hand," Yang Bo instructed.
Zhang Qian extended her hand to him. Yang Bo grasped her wrist and carefully examined her palm lines.
"You will have romantic luck soon," he said.
"Really?" Zhang Qian asked, surprised.
"But," Yang Bo continued, "the romance will leave you."
"……" Zhang Qian frowned, "What should I do then?"
"You need to find that rabbit," Yang Bo replied.
"Rabbit?" she echoed.
"Yes."
"Where is the rabbit?" Zhang Qian inquired.
"Far away in the sky, yet close at hand," Yang Bo answered cryptically.
"……" She fell silent for a moment before asking, "Does the rabbit have the surname Li?"
Yang Bo smiled but remained silent.
Zhang Qian understood. Yang Bo removed his cloak, and Zhang Qian's eyes widened in shock, "How is it you?!"
"Surprised?" Yang Bo asked.
"……" She turned to me and asked, "Li Wan, is this your boyfriend?"
I was speechless. My cheeks burned as I stammered, "No…"
Zhang Qian: "Oh."
Yang Bo: "I am a friend of her brother."
Zhang Qian: "Oh."
I cleared my throat and said, "Well, let me show you around."
Yang Bo: "Okay."
Zhang Qian and I took Yang Bo on a tour of the campus.
By five in the afternoon, Zhang Qian had to go for rehearsal, so I returned to the classroom alone to rest.
There was no one in the classroom, and I leaned on the desk and unknowingly fell asleep.
Gaoyuan returned to the classroom and saw Li Wan sleeping; he couldn't bear to wake her up.
He leaned down and kissed her forehead before leaving.
...
When I woke up, it was already past four o'clock.
I took out my phone to check, but there were no messages.
I continued reading until it got dark.
After dark, the evening party began.
I couldn't find Gaoyuan, which made me feel a bit disappointed.
I sat in the front row, watching one wonderful performance after another.
The first performance was a group dance from Xiangyang No. 1 High School.
The second performance was a choir from Xin Hua.
The third performance was a solo dance by Zhang Qian.
She wore a white gauzy dress, looking as beautiful and noble as a swan.
Her dance was elegant, light, and charming, earning applause from the audience.
As the last note fell, Zhang Qian took her bow and then left the stage.
Just as I was about to follow the crowd out, Zhang Qian called out to me.
"Li Wan!"
I stopped and turned to look at her: "What is it?"
Zhang Qian walked over and handed me a notebook: "Someone asked me to give this to you."
I took it with confusion: "Who?"
Zhang Qian: "I don't know; he said you would know when you read it."
I replied, "Oh."
I opened the notebook and saw written inside: [I'm waiting for you on the rooftop.]
It was Gaoyuan.
Zhang Qian: "Do you know him?"
Me: "Yeah, a friend."
Zhang Qian: "Then you should go."
Me: "Okay."
...
I arrived at the rooftop, where Gaoyuan was leaning against the iron railing, smoking.
His back was slender, and his gaze was distant, as if he were isolated from the world.
My heart tightened.
Gaoyuan noticed someone approaching, extinguished his cigarette, and turned to look at me.
"You’re here," he said in a low voice.
I replied, "Yeah."
He stepped closer to me, lowering his gaze as he asked, "Can you stay with me for a while?"
His eyes were so heartbreaking that I instinctively nodded, "Sure."
Gaoyuan: "Thank you."
We stood side by side in silence, neither of us speaking, just quietly standing there.
I lost track of time until I finally couldn't hold back and spoke up: "Gaoyuan."
Gaoyuan: "Hmm?"
I asked, "Did you lose your rabbit?"
Gaoyuan: "..."
He paused for a moment and replied, "How did you know?"
I said, "I saw it."
Gaoyuan: "..."
He fell silent for a moment before saying, "I lost it."
I asked, "Why?"
Gaoyuan: "..."
He smiled faintly, his tone resigned: "Because it wanted to run away."
I responded with silence.
I asked, "So did you find it again?"
Gaoyuan: "..."
He looked at me with a complicated expression and said, "I can't find it anymore."
I inquired, "Why not?"
Gaoyuan: "..."
He sighed, "It's hiding."
I asked, "Do you know where it is?"
Gaoyuan: "..."
He pressed his lips together and said softly, "It's right here."
I looked around, "Here?"
Gaoyuan: "Mm."
He gazed deeply at me, "It's right here."
I replied, "..."
I stared at him in confusion, "But there are no rabbits here."
Gaoyuan: "..."
He remained silent for a long time before asking, "Li Wan, don't you understand?"
I responded, "..."
I blinked, "Understand what?"
Gaoyuan: "..."
He raised his hand and ruffled my hair gently, his tone soft, "It's okay."
I thought to myself that he seemed to have something more to say.
After a moment, I said, "Gaoyuan, if the rabbit is hiding, then we should find a way to lure it out."
Gaoyuan: "..."
He smirked slightly, "How do we lure it?"
I replied, "You figure it out."
Gaoyuan: "..."
He chuckled, "Alright, I'll think of something."
I encouraged him, "Good luck!"
