The next evening, I bought some ingredients and planned to make porridge for Gaoyuan. As soon as I walked into the kitchen, I saw Gaoyuan leaning against the counter, quietly watching me.
I was startled and asked, "When did you wake up?"
Gaoyuan replied, "Just now."
I said, "I bought some ingredients to make porridge for you."
"Thank you," he responded.
"You're welcome," I replied as I carried the ingredients into the kitchen.
Gaoyuan followed me in and stood behind me, watching me busy myself. My cheeks gradually flushed red.
I turned around, intending to ask him to wait outside. Instead, he blocked me against the counter and looked down at me.
I was speechless.
I swallowed hard and quietly reminded him, "Y-you're too close to me..."
He remained silent.
In a low voice, he whispered my name, "Li Wan."
My heart raced.
He leaned in closer, his breath brushing against my neck. I couldn't help but shrink my neck back, my ears turning red.
His voice was husky and deep, incredibly alluring as he said my name again, "Li Wan."
I was at a loss for words.
I closed my eyes, mustering my courage, and leaned up to kiss his lips. His lips were soft and carried a faint hint of mint.
With every breath I took, I could smell him.
I closed my eyes and lost myself in the kiss.
A minute later, I pulled away from him. He looked at me with deep eyes.
Blushing, I quietly asked, "What... what's wrong with you?"
He sighed helplessly, rubbing his forehead, "Li Wan, you really are..."
I looked down, not daring to meet his gaze. I knew I had acted impulsively, but I truly couldn't control myself.
On the day of the Campus Festival, the sun was shining brightly with not a cloud in sight. The campus was bustling with crowds and lively festivities. I walked alone through the campus, soaking in the festive atmosphere. Gaoyuan had left early in the morning, and I felt a sense of relief.
As I was about to head back to the classroom, a cheerful voice called out from behind a stall, "Hey there, young lady!" I turned to see a parent—Zhou Shu, Gaoyuan's mother.
"Hello, Auntie," I greeted politely.
Zhou Shu waved with a smile, "Come here, come here, have some cake."
I walked over as Zhou Shu handed me a cupcake. "Try it; I made it myself."
I took a bite and my eyes lit up. "Wow, it's super delicious!"
Zhou Shu beamed with joy. "Isn't it tasty? All the cakes here are free; feel free to have more!"
"Thank you, Auntie!" I remembered Zhang Qian and asked her, "Can I take another one?"
"Of course you can!" Zhou Shu replied.
"Thank you, Auntie!"
"You're welcome."
I grabbed a chocolate cupcake and said goodbye to Zhou Shu before leaving. Two girls approached her stall.
"Auntie, how much is this cake?"
"Five dollars each."
"I'll take one."
"Alright!"
I brought a cake to the dance studio and found Zhang Qian. She had just finished practicing and was resting.
"Zhang Qian!" I ran over, "Take a break and have something to eat."
When Zhang Qian saw me, her eyes lit up with joy. "Did you bring this for me?"
"Yes," I replied.
"You’re so sweet!" she said.
"Hehe," I smiled.
Zhang Qian opened the cake box and her eyes widened in surprise. "It's chocolate cake! How did you know I like this?"
"Because I like it, so I thought I'd bring you some," I explained.
"Looks like we have the same taste!" she exclaimed.
"Exactly!"
"Then we can enjoy a lot of delicious food together in the future!" she added.
"Mm-hmm!"
After taking a bite of the cake, Zhang Qian asked, "Do you want to have a bite too?"
"Sure!"
Zhang Qian and I shared the same cake.
"Let's go out and have some fun," I suggested.
"Sounds good! Where should we go?" Zhang Qian asked.
"Just wandering around," I replied.
"Okay."
Zhang Qian and I walked out of the dance studio, strolling leisurely along the path. Ahead of us, there was a crowd gathered, not sure what they were doing.
"Let’s go take a look," I said.
"Alright!" Zhang Qian agreed.
