At Xiangyang High School, Li Wan had developed dark circles under her eyes. She arrived at the classroom early in the morning, resting her head on the desk, feeling drowsy. Oh, today was her birthday. Her parents said they would come back this weekend to celebrate with her, so she decided to have a simple celebration today.
She had been so tired these past few days that she couldn't even get up in the morning and just came to school for breakfast. "I'm so hungry..." Li Wan woke up from her hunger.
She groggily opened her eyes and instinctively looked towards Gaoyuan's seat. Gaoyuan was eating something white, and Li Wan curiously asked, "What are you eating?"
Gaoyuan glanced at her and replied, "Candy."
Li Wan's eyes lit up. "Is there any more?"
Gaoyuan paused for a moment. "No more."
Li Wan's enthusiasm deflated, and a hint of amusement flashed in Gaoyuan's eyes. He took out a light blue transparent box from his desk, which contained a starry sky-themed cake.
Li Wan was stunned. "This... this is..."
"A birthday gift," Gaoyuan said.
Li Wan stared at him in disbelief. "How did you know it was my birthday?"
"I guessed," Gaoyuan replied. "Do you want some?"
Li Wan hesitated. "Isn't this inappropriate..."
"If you don't eat it, I'll throw it away," Gaoyuan said as he pretended to toss it into the trash can.
Li Wan quickly stopped him. "I'll eat it."
Gaoyuan smiled slightly.
Under Gaoyuan's gaze, Li Wan carefully opened the box and scooped a spoonful with a spoon.
"It's delicious," Li Wan exclaimed, her eyes brightening.
She took another bite and asked, "Did you make this?"
Gaoyuan replied with a simple "Mm."
Li Wan looked at him in surprise. "You're amazing."
Gaoyuan's lips curled up slightly.
"Why don't you have a bite too?" Li Wan offered him the spoon.
Gaoyuan glanced at the spoon and asked, "Aren't you afraid I'll eat it?"
Li Wan paused; she had already used that spoon, which felt like an indirect kiss. Her cheeks flushed slightly. "What should I do then? There are no more spoons."
Gaoyuan chuckled softly. "It's fine; I don't mind you."
Li Wan: "..."
She hesitated for a moment and brought the spoon to his lips.
Gaoyuan took a bite.
Li Wan curiously asked, "Is it good?"
Gaoyuan chuckled, "Sweet."
Li Wan replied in confusion, "Of course cake is sweet."
Gaoyuan looked at her and said nothing.
After self-study ended, Li Wan pulled Gaoyuan to the cafeteria for noodles.
This was her way of celebrating her birthday.
Eating longevity noodles and making a wish.
On the way back to the classroom, Li Wan ran into Du Jun.
Du Jun smiled and greeted her, "Li Wan, long time no see."
Li Wan smiled back, "Hello, Senior Du."
Du Jun looked at Gaoyuan and asked, "Who is this?"
"He is my deskmate, Gaoyuan," Li Wan said.
Du Jun nodded, "Nice to meet you."
Gaoyuan glanced at him but said nothing.
Du Jun didn't mind and continued chatting with Li Wan, "Your school is also holding the Campus Festival this Friday, right?"
Li Wan nodded, "Yes."
"Our school is joining in this time," Du Jun said.
Li Wan was surprised, "Is it a joint celebration with Xin Hua?"
Du Jun smiled and nodded, "Yes, the leaders of your school and our school discussed it and decided to hold it together, combining the strengths of both schools' students to organize a grand Campus Festival."
Li Wan nodded, "That sounds great."
"I'll come find you then," Du Jun said.
Li Wan shyly smiled, "Okay."
After Du Jun left, Liu Ming arrived.
Liu Ming looked at Zhang Qian and cheerfully said, "Xiao Qian, long time no see."
Zhang Qian looked at him and narrowed her eyes slightly.
Liu Ming reached out to ruffle Zhang Qian's hair but was coldly interrupted by Gaoyuan: "Do you not want your hand anymore?"
Liu Ming paused his hand and chuckled, "Don't be so serious."
Gaoyuan stared at him coldly.
Zhang Qian also looked at him.
Liu Ming shrugged, "Alright then, I won't tease you guys anymore."
He turned to Li Wan: "Xiao Wan, happy birthday."
Li Wan was surprised: "How did you know?"
Liu Ming smiled: "It's a secret."
Li Wan was speechless.
"We're leaving first," Liu Ming said, patting Zhang Qian on the shoulder. "See you at the Campus Festival."
Zhang Qian nodded slightly.
After Liu Ming and Du Jun left, Gaoyuan's expression was not good.
Li Wan asked in confusion, "What's wrong with you?"
Gaoyuan looked at her and asked, "Are you very close to Du Jun?"
Li Wan shook her head. "I just went to Xin Hua as an exchange student once before. Senior Du took good care of us."
Gaoyuan remained silent.
Back in the classroom, Li Wan suddenly remembered, "By the way, Gaoyuan, when is your birthday?"
Gaoyuan looked at her and asked, "Why do you want to know that?"
"I want to celebrate your birthday too," Li Wan replied.
Gaoyuan was silent for a moment before saying, "I've already had my birthday."
Li Wan paused, "Then when is it?"
"In January," Gaoyuan said.
Li Wan calculated and realized that Gaoyuan was two years older than her.
"Then what should I get you for your eighteenth birthday next year?" Li Wan murmured to herself.
Gaoyuan looked at her with a slight smile.
He leaned closer to Li Wan and whispered, "You can call me 'brother'."
Li Wan froze for a moment, her cheeks instantly turning red.
She pushed him away, saying, "Don't stand so close to me."
Gaoyuan smirked, "You're blushing."
Li Wan covered her cheeks and retorted, "If you get this close, anyone would blush."
Gaoyuan chuckled lightly, "Really?"
Li Wan glared at him, "Of course."
Gaoyuan looked at her with an even broader smile.
