In a small, cramped room, there was Ti ny bed. On the bed lay a little girl, delicately carved like jade, sleeping soundly. Beside the bed stood a young boy, quietly gazing down at her. His eyes were filled with deep and terrifying undercurrents as he gently stroked her face, saying, "I will come for you; don't think you can escape me." He had given her his first kiss; how could he accept this reality? A strong sense of possessiveness surged within him. He leaned down and kissed her. Her lips were soft and sweet. He closed his eyes and told himself, "Li Wan, everything about you belongs to me."
At the orphanage, Madam Lu sat in the yard, watching a group of children playing. An elderly woman with graying hair approached with a little boy in tow. "Madam Lu, I'm leaving him here; please take care of him," she said. Madam Lu looked at the little boy and asked, "What is your name?" The boy remained silent. The elderly woman sighed, "This child was found on the roadside; he has no parents and doesn't want to speak." Madam Lu looked at the boy with compassion. "Poor child," she said, reaching out to pat his head, but he flinched away.
"He doesn't like being touched," the elderly woman explained. "Then... would he like to play with me?" Madam Lu asked. The elderly woman hesitated as she looked at the boy, "Do you want to?" The little boy remained silent, his gaze indifferent.
The grandmother took the little boy away. As they left, the boy did not cry or make a fuss; he remained very calm.
"This child must have suffered some harm in the past," Madam Lu remarked.
"Perhaps," said the assistant beside her.
Madam Lu sighed and shook her head, "What a poor child."
The assistant looked at her and asked, "Madam Lu, are we going to adopt him?"
Madam Lu thought for a moment and replied, "Let's wait and see; maybe in a few days he will open up."
"Mm." The assistant nodded.
Madam Lu looked at the children and smiled, "These kids are really adorable."
"Yes," the assistant said, "Madam Lu really likes children."
"Indeed," Madam Lu sighed, "I wish I could have my own children."
"Madam Lu is still young; I'm sure you can," the assistant comforted her.
"I hope so," Madam Lu said with a smile.
...
Madam Lu looked at the candles on the cake, full of anticipation: "Yuan, make a wish quickly."
Gaoyuan looked at her and said, "Madam Lu, I don't like sweet food."
"Then... you can just make any wish," Madam Lu suggested.
"Mm." Gaoyuan closed his eyes and silently made a wish in his heart. He hoped that Madam Lu could be a little happier.
After blowing out the candles, Madam Lu eagerly asked, "What did you wish for?"
Gaoyuan looked at her and smiled, "It's a secret."
"Oh dear, do you have secrets from me?" Madam Lu complained playfully.
"Happy birthday, Madam Lu," Gaoyuan said with a smile.
"Happy, of course I'm happy," Madam Lu said with a smile. "Come on, let's take a photo."
"Okay," Gaoyuan nodded.
He didn't actually like taking photos, but he never refused Madam Lu's requests.
Madam Lu picked up her phone and made a "peace" sign in front of the camera.
Gaoyuan looked at her and tried hard to pull off a natural smile.
The photo was captured.
Gaoyuan looked at the photo, the corners of his mouth slightly lifting.
Madam Lu looked at him and said with a smile, "Yuan, you look great when you smile."
"Really?" Gaoyuan asked lightly.
"Yes," Madam Lu said cheerfully. "You should smile more often."
"Okay," Gaoyuan replied softly.
"Yuan, thank you for spending my birthday with me," Madam Lu said as she looked at him.
"I should be the one thanking you," Gaoyuan said earnestly.
"Thank me for what?" Madam Lu asked.
"Thank you for being willing to take me in," Gaoyuan replied.
"Silly boy," Madam Lu patted his head. "It's you who chose to stay and help me."
Gaoyuan smiled but didn't say anything further.
After helping Madam Lu finish her tasks, he left.
