"Chen Yunyun, why aren't you off work yet?" Fang Chu walked up to me, raising an eyebrow.
I smiled awkwardly, "I'll be leaving soon."
"Are you afraid of me?" He crossed his arms and looked at me leisurely.
"No," I quickly shook my head.
He let out a light snort, "Then why don't you dare to look at me?"
Taking a deep breath, I mustered the courage to meet his gaze. His eyes were playful, with a hint of teasing.
My heart raced, and my cheeks began to heat up.
"You see, your face is all red," he pointed at my face, grinning widely.
I reached up to touch my cheeks; they were indeed very warm.
"I... I'm just hot."
"But it's winter."
I gritted my teeth, "I have a good constitution, is that a problem?"
"Not at all." He shrugged, "You can go ahead and keep busy."
I sat down and continued working. He returned to his seat, showing no signs of leaving.
There was a familiar scent of perfume on him, the same couple's fragrance I had given to Shen Yuqian last time.
My heart started to flutter.
No, I can't stay here any longer.
"Fang Chu, I'm heading home now." I picked up my bag and turned to leave.
"I'll walk you back," he said, catching up to walk alongside me.
"No need." I forced a laugh, "My home is very close to the office; I can walk."
"I can drive faster."
I had no way to argue back and could only get into the car with him. He turned his head to glance at me and asked, "You still haven't said why I would fire you?"
"I don't know." I shook my head, unwilling to elaborate further.
"What do you know?" He frowned slightly, his eyes filled with confusion.
I kept my mouth shut, saying nothing at all.
He sighed in resignation, "Alright then." After dropping me off at the entrance of the community, he drove away.
Once I got home, I took a shower and went to bed. The next day, Chen Yueyue suggested we go for a picnic. I pulled out my mom's green coat from her younger days and put it on.
"Sis, what are you doing?" Chen Yueyue looked at me in surprise.
"Going for a picnic," I said excitedly, rubbing my hands together. It had been a long time since I last went on a picnic, and the weather was nice lately—perfect for an outing.
"Do you really think that's how you should dress for a picnic?" He pointed at my outfit, his lips twitching.
"Doesn't it look good?" I blinked innocently. "This is my mom's clothes from when she was young—authentic vintage style. Don't you appreciate it?"
"Sure, sure," he nodded repeatedly. "As long as you're happy."
"Let's go." I grabbed his hand and headed out.
He drove a Porsche while I sat in the passenger seat, filled with excitement.
"Sis, can you please stop humming?" He frowned, looking exasperated.
"Nope." I shot him a glare. "Are you going to control me humming too?"
"You sing too badly; I can't stand it."
"If you say another word, I'll kick you out," he warned. I obediently fell silent, not daring to utter another word.
I hummed a tune, watching the scenery outside the window blur by. Having woken up too early in the morning, I quickly dozed off again.
I don't know how long I slept, but my brother woke me up.
"Hey, sis, we're here. Wake up."
"Mm."
I opened my eyes groggily and looked at him. He handed me a tissue. "Quick, wipe your drool."
"Oh."
I took it and wiped the drool from the corner of my mouth.
"Are we there?"
"Yeah."
I opened the car door and got out. Suddenly, a familiar voice came from the back seat.
"Yun Yun."
I stopped in my tracks and turned around. Fang Chu was wearing a black coat, smiling at me.
I widened my eyes in disbelief as I looked at him. "You... how did you get in the car?"
"I got in while you were sleeping."
My cheeks flushed with embarrassment as I lowered my head. Why does he always have to see me make a fool of myself?
