"Wife, are you okay?" Gu Shisheng asked, his eyes filled with concern as he walked over and gently pulled me into his embrace.
"I'm fine." I leaned softly against his shoulder, feeling the warmth of his arms, a strong sense of security washing over me.
"That bastard Wei Chen finally got what he deserved. But you mustn't let your guard down; he's been pushed to the edge and might do something even crazier," Gu Shisheng warned me seriously.
"I know." I nodded, my gaze filled with determination.
"Don't worry, I'll help you solve all your problems," Gu Shisheng said, holding my hand firmly and looking at me with conviction.
"I believe in you." I took a deep breath, my eyes full of hope.
Just then, the office phone rang.
"Hello, this is Gu Shisheng," he answered calmly.
A hoarse voice came from the other end: "Mr. Gu, do you have time right now? I have something important to tell you."
"What is it that's so important?" Gu Shisheng asked, his tone steady but a hint of alertness flashed in his eyes.
"You should come in person; the address is..." The caller hung up abruptly after speaking.
Gu Shisheng's brow furrowed, worry evident in his eyes as he turned to look at me, filled with regret. "Wife, I need to go. Wait for me here."
I nodded and watched him leave the office.
After Gu Shisheng left, I sat in the office, replaying the contents of the phone call in my mind, a sense of unease creeping in.
I picked up the phone on the table and dialed Wang Qian's number.
"Wang Qian, can you come over? I need to talk to you," I said with a heavy tone.
"Okay, I'll be there right away," Wang Qian's voice sounded a bit rushed.
I hung up the phone and sat quietly in my chair, waiting for Wang Qian to arrive. I had a faint feeling that this storm was just beginning, and the real test was still ahead.
When Wang Qian arrived at my office, her face was filled with anxiety.
"Shisheng called and said he went to see Wei Chen. Do you know what happened?" Wang Qian asked urgently.
I shook my head, my tone heavy. "I don't know, but I have a bad feeling about this."
"Me too," Wang Qian sighed, her expression serious.
"Can you help me investigate Wei Chen's current situation?" I requested.
"Of course," Wang Qian immediately agreed. "I'll use my connections to find out as soon as possible."
"Thank you," I said gratefully to Wang Qian, my heart filled with hope.
Just then, the door to my office was pushed open again, and Gu Shisheng walked in. His face was pale, and his eyes were filled with anxiety.
"Sister, something has happened!" Gu Shisheng said urgently.
"What happened?" My heart sank suddenly, a sense of foreboding washing over me.
"Wei Chen... Wei Chen, he..." Gu Shisheng abruptly stopped speaking, his face etched with pain.
"What happened to him?" I pressed on, my tone filled with anxiety.
"He... he... he said... he said..." Gu Shisheng closed his eyes in anguish, as if finding it hard to speak.
Seeing Gu Shisheng's pained expression made my heart race, and I sensed that the situation might be more serious than I had anticipated.
"What did he say?" I asked urgently.
Gu Shisheng took a deep breath and slowly said, "He said... he said Tongtong... Tongtong is your child..."
Gu Shisheng's words struck me like a thunderclap, echoing in my mind. My body froze instantly, and my thoughts went blank.
Tongtong is... my child?
I couldn't believe my ears. My body trembled uncontrollably, and my mind was in chaos.
How could this be?
