Ma Yuewen took a sip of water and said, "You and I are looking at him, and he is looking at me." After a while, I finally spoke up, "Why did you lie to me?"
"What did I lie about?"
"About the security guard."
"It was a spur-of-the-moment decision."
"Then why did you steal my money?"
"I was just joking."
I was left speechless.
"How did you end up with Cui Hai?"
"I pursued him."
"You took the initiative?"
"Yeah."
"Who confessed first?"
"I did."
"Who held hands first?"
"I did."
"Who kissed first?"
"He did."
Cui Hai and I attended the same university, but he is not from Suzhou; his hometown is in the Northeast. We met during our junior year when I took the initiative to pursue him. He has a slow-to-warm personality but is gentle and considerate in his dealings with others, making him quite popular in college. After graduation, he was assigned to a well-known hospital in Shanghai as a surgeon, and thus we began our two-year long-distance relationship.
I heard about Cui Hai's infidelity from Zhao Qian. While traveling in Shanghai, Zhao Qian accidentally ran into Cui Hai and Fang Hui together. I confronted Cui Hai about it, but he flatly denied everything and told me not to make a scene.
In fact, his attitude towards me had been growing increasingly cold even before this incident. He often brushed me off when I called him. Unable to tolerate his behavior any longer, I decided to break up with him.
At that moment, Ma Yuewen pulled out his phone and showed me the chat history between him and Fang Hui, as well as photos of Cui Hai and Fang Hui embracing each other. In the pictures, they were tightly wrapped in each other's arms, with Cui Hai gazing affectionately at Fang Hui, who looked blissfully nestled in his embrace. Seeing those photos made my heart sink significantly.
Although I still had feelings for Cui Hai, they were nowhere near as strong as before. "As a man, wouldn't you feel embarrassed if you were cheated on?" I asked. "Yes," he replied. "Wouldn't it make you feel uncomfortable inside?" "Yes." "Then find someone who feels uncomfortable too." "..." "I think you're the most suitable."
Ma Yuewen mentioned that he had been with Fang Hui for two years, but she broke up with him three months ago to pursue Cui Hai. "You clearly knew that Fang Hui was interested in your boyfriend, yet you came to apologize to me?" I questioned. "Yes, because I realized it but didn't stop her."
I looked at Ma Yuewen and couldn't shake the feeling that he was reveling in my misfortune.
But he acted very seriously, saying, "I know you're not feeling well either, but you have to find a way to vent, right?"
"So you came to me?"
Ma Yuewen nodded.
"..."
I lowered my head, looking at the photos on my phone, feeling a mix of emotions.
Even though Cui Hai and I had broken up, I still couldn't accept the fact that he had cheated.
Ma Yuewen waved his hand in front of my eyes, "Are you okay?"
I shook my head, "Not really."
"Then that's good."
"???"
"Seeing you unhappy makes me happy."
"????????"
"Shh, keep your voice down; it wouldn't be good if someone hears us."
"..."
This meal was quite suffocating for me, but I couldn't deny that after talking with Ma Yuewen, my mood improved significantly.
After returning home, I added Ma Yuewen as a friend.
After our conversation, I felt we clicked well, and whenever we had free time, we often went out to eat together. Sometimes I would treat him, and sometimes he would treat me.
The topics we discussed were mostly about scumbags and shameless people, and as we talked, we became more familiar with each other.
Ma Yuewen was quite talkative and very humorous, completely different from Cui Hai.
Cui Hai didn't say much; every time I was with him, it was always me trying to find topics while he just responded.
