In the southern region of October, early winter has arrived, and the weather is starting to turn cool. On Saturday morning, I didn't indulge in the warmth of my bed, but got up early and finished washing up. As if guided by a mysterious force, I found myself already outside the gate of Qingyun Temple.
I don't know if it's the wind blowing that makes me feel a slight chill, or if it's the uneasiness in my heart. I buttoned up my shirt, made up my mind, took a big step forward, and stepped onto this piece of pure land.
Two years later, coming back here again, my feelings are quite complicated.
The first time, it was because my mom dragged me here to Qingyun Temple to burn incense and have my fortune told. That time, I stood in the Qingyun Temple's courtyard, and didn't even enter the main hall. I don't believe burning incense and having my fortune told can really change anything, and I have protested against my mom's behavior countless times. Can fortune telling really be trusted?
Actually, I have some resistance in my heart. If it weren't for the fortune-telling here, I should be enjoying the wonderful single life now, instead of being forced into Miai s every day. But this time, I came on my own. Ha! Just thinking about it makes me feel ridiculous.
Qingyun Temple is located at the top of Lingya Mountain, and it takes a couple of hours to walk up after getting off the cable car.
I climbed up along the stone steps, one step at a time, feeling a strange sensation with each step.
After a full hour, I finally reached my destination.
Climbing mountains is indeed physically demanding, not easy at all.
Qingyun Temple - three characters, towering into the clouds, majestic and solemn. In this kind of environment, it's inevitable for people to feel awe.
Stepping on the stone steps, slowly ascending, is the main hall of Qingyun Temple. Looking up, a solemn feeling arises.
I did not light any incense, but I bowed and knelt devoutly like the Pilgrims.
It's quite amusing to think about it. I've never been superstitious, yet here I am, bowing at the Taoist temple.
Looking around, I noticed there were quite a few Pilgrims, each one devoutly bowing and kneeling, probably praying for the blessings of the gods.
I didn't ask for anything just now. What exactly did I come here for?
Ye Ling is what that person said, Ye Ling is the divination from two years ago. It looks like I can only return empty-handed today.
In the blink of an eye, all the Pilgrims in the main hall scattered like a beehive. I was wondering, and when I looked up, I saw two female Pilgrims at the right corner of the entrance. They were drawing lots, and there were very few people in the place where the lots were being interpreted today.
I walked forward uncontrollably, wanting to join in the excitement and take a look. But after a female pilgrim in front of me took a divination slip and left, I was the only one left.
There were dozens of divination slips in the seal tube, lying there quietly, as if they had a magical power driving me forward.
Since I'm already here, why not draw one?
Kneeling down, shaking the divination tube, and finally drawing out the longest bamboo stick. Just like those devout men and women, clasping their hands together, they worshiped the bamboo stick. "It's your first time drawing a stick, isn't it?" I looked up to see the person sitting with a smile in a corner of the main hall.
Why is it him? He's the person I met on a Miai a few days ago.
How could it be him here?
The sunlight outside the window framed his blue Daoist robe, and for a moment, I felt a bit dazed.
"He's a Taoist??? A Taoist from Qingyun Temple!
No wonder, that day I always had a feeling of tranquility and detachment when I saw him. It turns out, he is a practitioner.
I looked at him in amazement and asked after a while, 'Are you a Taoist?'"
He nodded, " Daoist Ling only draws lots?"
I nodded in response, coming back to my senses. I sat down in front of him and handed him the bamboo slips.
He carefully examined the text on my slip, while I earnestly watched him.
It's hard to imagine that the handsome man drinking coffee suddenly turned into a Master. This dramatic scene just appeared like this.
" Master, is this a spiritual sign?" I called him Master, but in fact, he is very young. I really can't think of any other title for him.
"The Tao follows nature, and a sincere heart brings spiritual signs."
He got up and took out my divination slip from the wooden box next to him. He was methodical and calm, which suited this Taoist temple quite well. It's strange, why does my heart feel particularly calm every time I see him?
"Thirty-first divination slip, a good one," he said, holding the slip between his distinct knuckles. "What are you seeking this time?"
He handed me the divination slip, and I looked carefully at it: When things come to a head, it's like cutting with a knife. It's better to endure than to force it. Let the situation turn as it may, even if the outcome is not high.
"Still seeking a marriage fate?" He sat across from me, his calm demeanor making me feel like a commoner. Everyone who comes here is full of worries. I was just curious, or even acting without thinking. I smiled and gave a reason, "No, just some work troubles."
"From the wording of the contract, it doesn't seem too bad. Everything is man-made, Daoist Ling doesn't need to worry so much."
Next, he probably explained some interpretations of the scriptures, meaning that everything will naturally fall into place and should not be rushed.
Listening to this, I felt a sense of peace in my heart. Perhaps things will turn out as he explained.
"Thank you very much, Master, for your help last time."
He smiled gently, with soft eyebrows and eyes. The Daoist robe looked very pleasing on him.
"You're welcome, Daoist Ling. I hope I was able to help you."
During the conversation, it started to pour outside, and the pilgrims scattered to take shelter from the rain. The sudden rain forced me to stop and I learned some things about Taoist temple. I struck up a conversation with him.
" Master, do you catch ghosts?"
He clearly paused for a moment, then shook his head. "I can't believe I asked such a silly question," I burst into laughter. "So, can you read fortunes?"
Him: "Fortune-telling requires a qualified master, we don't usually do fortune-telling or exorcism. Our daily practice is like your daily work."
He exudes a gentle aura, a person untainted by the world. At this moment, I felt a sense of respect: "How should I address you, Master?"
Him: "Zhou Heng."
Me: " Master Zhou, is that how I should address you?"
He smiled lightly: "It's up to you."
"Do Taoist priests also drink coffee?" I rested my chin on my hand, looking at the rain outside the door, and said, "I saw you drinking coffee last time, so I was curious."
"We mainly drink tea on a regular basis, and only occasionally have coffee."
The rain continued to fall, but it had lessened a bit, with no sign of stopping.
Feeling a bit impatient, I got up and walked to the corridor by the door.
" Daoist Ling in a hurry to go home? It seems like the rain at Lingya Mountain won't stop so soon in this season."
He got up and came over slowly, accompanied by the wind, and I smelled a faint sandalwood scent.
We stood side by side, with one of his hands behind his back and the other reaching out to catch a drop of water: "Today's rain may continue until evening."
At this moment, Taoist temple is very quiet, and there are hardly any Pilgrims to be seen. Only the two of us are left in the main hall.
Feeling strange in my heart, I inexplicably become a little impatient.
At this rate, I will miss the last bus back to the city.
"Has the matter from last time been resolved?"
Mm!
I looked up and met his gentle and boundless eyes. He still remembered the embarrassing incident from the Miai.
My face inexplicably turned red, I waved my hand and said, "This is a long-term battle, not so easily resolved."
He understood, "Your mother is also worried about you."
Of course, I knew that. Seeing that I will be twenty-five in six months, my mom can't help but worry.
"It was the hexagram cast at Qingyun Temple, but I don't know which master of yours did it."
I was quite annoyed. If it wasn't for that time when my mom came to visit me in Rongcheng and insisted on dragging me to Qingyun Temple, how could I have ended up in such a sorry state?
He paused, with a hint of surprise in his eyes, but didn't answer. Instead, a slight smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
"Marriage is predestined, Daoist Ling will definitely meet him."
I smiled awkwardly and said, "If my mom could think like that, the world would be at peace."
As lunchtime approached, the rain continued to drizzle. The path down the mountain was slippery in the rain, and I didn't have an umbrella. Going down like this would undoubtedly leave me drenched.
He noticed my embarrassment and said to me as he tidied up the things on the table, "There's vegetarian food for lunch in the temple. If you don't mind, I'll take you to the backyard."
