Looking at Su Qian, it was clear he didn't know where Ye Guang was; he was just casually accompanying me.
However, what he said still made some sense.
According to Su Qian's analysis, the last time Ye Guang escaped from the hospital, it was because I was hospitalized for Xiao Zhe. So this time, it could also be for me. Since he hadn't contacted me and wasn't at the grave of his only beloved family member, it was very likely that he found out our home address and went directly there.
I carefully recalled in my mind; it seemed I had never told him where I currently lived. He did know the place I used to live, so it made sense that he drove to the old community.
By this time, it was almost noon. Before we went in, Su Qian asked me, "Do you want to grab something to eat first?"
I was anxious to see the results, so while walking inside, I said, "Let's go in and take a look first. He probably hasn't eaten either. If we can find him, we'll bring him along."
Su Qian quietly said behind me, "If I were lost, I wouldn't know if you'd be this anxious to find me."
My feet paused for a moment, but just for an instant; I quickly pretended I hadn't heard anything and hurriedly walked away.
He had said that we should avoid seeing each other in the future. Now he was just helping me out a bit by chance; I couldn't let my thoughts run wild or complicate things further. It was hard-earned for everyone to be safe and sound; I needed to cherish that.
There was no sign of him in the community. We even checked the old floors and worried he might not know how to use the elevator. The two of us foolishly climbed down more than twenty flights of stairs, our legs weak and unable to stand.
Su Qian supported me and asked, "Are you okay?"
I wiped the sweat from my forehead and forced myself to say, "I'm fine, I'm fine; just lacking exercise."
He smiled, using his arms to almost lift me down the last two flights of stairs. Then we both sat on the steps, panting under the midday sun.
A few minutes later, Su Qian stood up first and said, "You rest a bit longer; I'll go buy two bottles of water."
I wanted to stand up and go with him, but my legs were still weak, and as soon as I tried to get up, I sat back down again.
Su Qian laughed and said, "Alright, alright, I can't take you like this. How about you give me ten bucks, and I'll go by myself? After all, I've worked half the day; you should agree to buy me a bottle of water."
I was at a loss whether to laugh or cry at what he said. While I looked for my wallet, he had already left.
I watched his tall figure, the sunlight casting a shadow that stretched as he moved towards the Community Entrance.
Just as his silhouette turned around a corner, another person came out from there and brushed past him, walking towards me.
The person wore a black T-shirt and dark jeans.
He was tall, and his walking style seemed familiar; it was just that he wasn't wearing a hat this time, and his thick black hair was cut very short.
I hadn't paid much attention at first, but because he passed by Su Qian and was dressed particularly for such hot weather, I glanced at him a couple more times. To my surprise, when he looked up and saw me, he turned around and walked away.
In that instant, I almost immediately thought of the man in black who had saved me.
I hurriedly tried to stand up, but my legs were still too weak. I managed to grab onto a nearby plant for support but pulled too hard and ended up tearing it out of the ground, falling back down again.
He quickly disappeared down another path.
I almost want to slap myself; how could I be so useless that I can't even stand up after climbing two flights of stairs?
Regretting that Su Qian came back, but nothing was resolved, instead, Xiao Minxing called.
When I looked at the phone, Su Qian glanced over too, then automatically muted himself and moved a bit further away.
However, this kind of considerate behavior made me feel uncomfortable again. Deliberate distancing only makes people more uneasy, and it didn't feel as good as before.
Xiao Minxing first asked if I had eaten. Worried he would be concerned, I casually lied and said I had already eaten.
He then asked about Ye Guang, and upon learning that he hadn't been found yet, told me to just go home.
With no results, my confidence was also shaken, so I agreed.
But as soon as the call ended, Su Qian said, "I heard that Ye Guang has a pretty good relationship with you?"
I didn't think much and replied, "Yeah, we used to study Comic together. Both of us weren't very social, so we didn't have classmates to hang out with. Over time, we became friends."
Su Qian nodded thoughtfully.
As soon as we started talking about Ye Guang, I remembered his peculiar mother and looked at Su Qian asking, "Isn't it strange? Her own son is missing, but instead of looking for him, she's yelling at people at the Hospital Entrance?"
"Yelling at people at the Hospital Entrance? Why?" Su Qian asked.
If I knew why, I wouldn't think she was strange. The urge to vent became uncontrollable as I recounted Mrs. Ye Guang's reaction when she found out about me and her son, including what I saw today—all of it came pouring out.
Su Qian silently finished the water in his cup before getting up and saying, "Let's go eat first, then we can check on the Hospital."
I actually didn't want to go to the Hospital at all because I didn't want to see Mrs. Ye.
However, Su Qian said that a pampered lady like her would have been thirsty and tired after being scolded for an entire morning, so she must have left by now.
I asked him, "If she's gone, what are we going to see?"
He smiled mysteriously at me and whispered, "What if Ye Guang has gone back?"
This statement encouraged me greatly. To be honest, I also hoped that Ye Guang had just been cooped up inside for too long and wanted to come out for a look. Then after last night and this morning, he would have seen enough and gotten bored, so he would obediently return.
Just thinking about this made my heart ache. He really wasn't that foolish; if there was someone in the Ye Family who cared about him and spent time with him, he wouldn't need to be sent to such a place. He was just too lonely.
When I shared these thoughts with Su Qian, he kept his eyes on the road ahead, pursed his lips, and after a while finally spoke up, "I guess everyone has their own reasons. The Ye Family's treatment of their son must have its reasons too; we just don't know what they are yet, so let's not judge others' situations."
I felt somewhat unconvinced and muttered, "It's not someone else's business. I consider Ye Guang a friend. Xiao Minxing even said she wanted to take him home to take care of him. It's just that his parents definitely wouldn't agree, and since I have to go to work later, even if he came to our house, no one would be there to keep him company. After thinking it over, it seems better for him to be in the Hospital, but I didn't expect it to be like this."
Su Qian turned his head and asked a beat late, "Who did you say? Xiao Zong wants Ye Guang to go to your house?"
I was feeling irritated and didn't think much about it, so I nodded and said, "Yeah, we're friends after all."
